What kind of event is this? The Community Day is an event where one Pokémon is in the spotlight and appears in very high numbers, with increased shiny chances and some bonuses. The Classic version of the event brings back a Pokémon that already had its own Community Day in the past.
The Community Day Classic in May 2025 brings Machop back to you. This Fighting-type Pokémon is from the 1st generation and can evolve into Machoke and then into Machamp. Coincidentally, the debut of Gigantamax Machamp in Pokémon GO takes place the day after. A good reason to use the Community Day Classic for some candies.

Additional event content: During the event, you will receive a free, limited-time research task, which you have until May 31, 2025, at 10:00 PM to complete. As a reward, you can expect a Machop with a special background, with the shiny chance further increased.
For $1.99 (approximately €2), you can also purchase a special research task. The rewards here include encounters with Machop, with 3 specimens having a special background. Additionally, you will receive a premium battle pass and an XL special candy.
Is Machop worth it?
For collectors: If you haven’t been able to get a shiny Machop so far, then this event is the perfect opportunity for you to catch up.
For fighters: Machamp remains one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO. Also, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, the Gigantamax version of Machamp will celebrate its debut in the game. If you have your sights set on this monster, you can use the Community Day Classic to stock up on your candy supply.
How you should prepare for the Community Day Classic in May
Clear space: If you want to catch many Machop, you will need enough space in your Pokémon box. You should already clear out and make space before the event.
If your box fills up during the event, you can use a simple trick for quickly sorting out Pokémon to create some space again.
Prepare items: Make sure to have enough items so you can fully utilize the Community Day Classic. You should equip yourself especially with the following items:
- Balls: Naturally. Without enough balls, you won’t have the opportunity to catch many Machop.
- Nanab Berries: If you’re aiming for the candies, you should accumulate some Nanab Berries to double the amount of candies you get when catching.
- Lure Module and Incense: Both items will last 3 hours if activated during the event. They provide additional Machop spawns.
Which Mega Evolutions are useful? If you have a suitable Mega Evolution active during the event, you can not only earn extra experience points but also gain an additional candy for each catch. The following Mega Evolutions are suitable for this, as they are all fighting-type like Machop.

- Mega Lopunny
