On January 21, 2023, the Community Day Classic featuring Larvitar will take place in Pokémon GO. Find out everything about the content, bonuses, and how to make the most of it here.
What kind of event is this? The Community Day Classic is a special version of the Community Day. This variant of the usual event once again highlights a popular monster that has had a Community Day in the past.
This allows everyone who could not participate in the Community Day back then to now hunt for the monster and hope for good stats or a shiny.
In January, the Community Day Classic revolves around the Rock and Ground-type Pokémon Larvitar. Its first C-Day took place in 2018.

When? Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time
Pokémon of the Day: Larvitar spawns almost everywhere in the wild
Exclusive Move: The fast move “Catapult”. Evolve Larvitar into Tyranitar between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Bonuses:
– Triple catch XP
– Incense and Lure Modules last for 3 hours
– Snapshot surprises
– Special research for €1 with this content
In addition to the bonuses, you will also find a special research for one euro in the shop as usual. The ticket will provide you with tasks related to Larvitar and some items and encounters as rewards.

Who benefits from the Community Day Classic featuring Larvitar?
Basically, Larvitar is not as rare as it once was, but its evolution Tyranitar is still a good Rock attacker. The fast move “Catapult” is crucial, which you can secure during the event.
So it is worthwhile to catch a Tyranitar with strong stats if you do not have one yet.
At the same time, the event can also be perfectly utilized to collect candies for any crypto-versions of Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar that you already have in your collection. Crypto-Tyranitar remains one of the best Rock and Dark-type attackers.
Furthermore, Tyranitar theoretically also has a Mega Evolution, for which you could catch a good specimen. However, this is not yet available in the game.

How to make the most of the Community Day Classic
Prepare space: If you plan to catch many Larvitar, you should sort through your Pokémon collection. Use the filter function for this: With the search term
- “0*, 1*, 2*”
you will only see monsters that have less than 2 stars.
Develop Mega Pokémon: If you develop a Mega Pokémon of the right type, you will receive extra candies for Larvitar when you catch them. In this case, they are:
- Mega Swampert
- Mega Aggron
- Mega Aerodactyl
The chance for XL candies is also increased depending on the Mega-level of your Mega Pokémon.
Which items are worth it for the Community Day Classic featuring Larvitar?
Silver Pineapples: If you are on the hunt for candies, this is the logical item. It doubles your catch candies, which you can then use to level up your Tyranitar specimens.
Incense & Lure Modules: The incense brings additional spawns when you move, while the lure module attracts more monsters to you when you rest at a corresponding PokéStop. Both last for 3 hours, so you only need to use one item for the whole event.
Lucky Egg: If you want to double your tripled catch XP again, you should use a lucky egg. Especially “Excellent Throws” serve as a very good XP provider on Community Days with XP bonuses. This can be worthwhile if you want to level up and catch many monsters.
