In Pokémon GO, the second season of the PvP league has started. We will show you the schedule, rewards, and the best Pokémon for each league.
This is Season 2: Since May 11 at 10:00 PM German time, you can enter the new season in the PvP league.
There are some changes compared to Season 1. To ensure you are well prepared for the new season, we will provide you with all the important information.
Rewards, Schedule, and Premier Cup
How long will Season 2 run? As of now, it is scheduled to last until July 6 at 10:00 PM German time. So, you can try to reach rank 10 in the PvP league for about 2 months.
What does the schedule look like? Niantic has already provided an overview of the exact times when the leagues are available. This is as follows:
- Great League: May 1 to May 25 at 10:00 PM German time
- Ultra League: May 25 to June 15 at 10:00 PM German time
- Master League and Premier Cup: June 15 to June 29 at 10:00 PM German time
- All leagues and the Premier Cup: June 29 to July 6 at 10:00 PM German time
What is the Premier Cup? For the first time, there is a special tournament in the PvP league. In the Premier Cup, you cannot battle with legendary and mythical Pokémon. There is also no CP limit.
This means popular Master League Pokémon, such as Giratina or Dialga, are simply not allowed, giving an advantage to trainers who haven’t relied much on raid Pokémon.
What about the rewards? There are adjustments to the rewards. For a basic battle set, you can now receive a Pokémon encounter after the 3rd win. For the premium battle set, the encounter is available from the 1st win.
In return, access to special candies has been made more difficult. These are only available after the 4th win with the basic battle set.
From rank 7, you will receive a guaranteed Elite Fast TM at the end of the season. With this, you can teach your Pokémon any move it has ever learned. You can find out here which Pokémon are worth it.
There are also special Pokémon that can be obtained at different ranks. For example:
- Metagross guaranteed at Rank 1
- Flunschlik at Rank 4
- Geronimatz at Rank 8
- Zurrokex at Rank 9
- Wrestler Pikachu guaranteed at Rank 10
The best Pokémon for each league
Use these Pokémon for the Great League: In the Great League, you can only use Pokémon with a maximum of 1500 CP. Therefore, the choice here is Pokémon that are less commonly used in raids.
The best monsters include Altaria, Panzaeron, Registeel, Meditalis, and Welsar.

Use these Pokémon for the Ultra League: In this league, you can use Pokémon with up to 2500 CP. Some strong monsters that are often overlooked are also available here.
The entire Regi trio is an option, for example. Swampert, Giratina, and Snorlax are also strong.

Use these Pokémon for the Master League: In this league, there is no CAP limit. You can use any Pokémon, so many monsters known from raids are also relevant.
For example, Giratina, Dialga, or Kyogre are good monsters. But also Pokémon that are not often used in raids, such as Togekiss or Melmetal, are quite strong.
