In Pokémon GO the level system is being revised. Soon you’ll be able to climb 30 additional levels. On top of that, there are changes to the prior levels.
What is the new max level? The new highest level in Pokémon GO is level 80. Previously, you could only reach level 50. So there are 30 new levels you can advance through. The level curve will also be adjusted.
It is the first major adjustment to the level system in nearly five years.
When will the new system be active? The new level system will be introduced on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
Will I drop in level? No, no one is supposed to drop levels due to the changes and adjustments. As it stands, however, it may happen that you land on a higher level. Appropriate rewards that will then be introduced for the prior levels will be granted to you retroactively.

What changes with the new level system?
Basically, players are supposed to level up faster with the new system, it says in the announcement on the official Pokémon GO website.
If you are currently stuck between level 40 and 50, you will know the level-up research. Completing these is necessary to advance another level between 40 and 50, along with a certain amount of XP. However, these will now be removed and only become active again between level 70 and 80. There should be new level-up research there.
New rewards will also be introduced. These can include inventory expansions, but also items, gifts, and avatar items.
Farewell to the old system: On October 14 at 11:59 PM, all players will receive a medal representing their achieved level. After that, the new system will be introduced.
Players who reached level 50 and received the corresponding jacket will also be given a new avatar pose. The current avatar items from level 40 to 50 cannot be earned anymore under the new system – however, those who already have them will keep them.
Big XP event starts today: From 10:00 PM on August 25, various XP bonuses will start, which will be valid until October 14, 2025 at 11:59 PM. They will also be combined with other bonuses.
- Double XP for nice, great, fabulous throws
- 3,000 XP for won raids and dyna battles
- A limited research can provide up to 7 million XP
- And one of the hardest tasks from level 47 to 48 will be adjusted so that you only have to cover 25 km twice in a week instead of eight times
So you can collect a lot of XP here before entering the new level system.
