In Pokémon GO on Sunday, July 17, 2022, the Community Day featuring Staralili will take place. We at MeinMMO have looked at what bonuses await you on this day and show you how to make the most of the event.
What event is it about? Pokémon GO hosts a so-called Community Day every month, where a specific Pokémon is highlighted. In July, there will be such an event where you can encounter the Normal and Flying-type Pokémon Staralili.
This will also be the first time it appears in its shiny form in the game. All the special features you can expect for the Community Day with Staralili and how to best utilize the event have been summarized for you below.
Community Day in July 2022 – Start, Bonuses & Shiny
When? Sunday, July 17, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time
Pokémon of the day: Staralili will be more frequently found in the wild
Exclusive Move: Gust when you evolve Staravia to Staraptor (up to 5 hours after the event)
Bonuses:
– Incense and Lure Modules last for 3 hours each
– 3x XP when catching
– double candies when catching
– double chance for XL candies when catching Staralili
– surprises from snapshots
– special event stickers from Gifts and PokéStops
– Stardust cost when trading reduced by 50% (up to 5 hours after the event)
– an additional special trade, totaling 3 (up to 5 hours after the event)
Special Group Bonuses:
– 4x XP when catching for 30 minutes if many Pokémon are caught at a nearby PokéStop with a Lure Module
As you may already know from other Community Days over the last months, the event will last for 3 hours again. You can also benefit from individual bonuses, such as the event move, the additional special trade, and the reduced Stardust trading costs until 7:00 PM local time.
Bonus Raid Battles: In addition to the bonuses mentioned around the Community Day, there will be special level 4 raids afterward, just like in June. In these, you can battle against the raid boss Staravia, the first evolution of Staralili.
However, note that you can only participate in these raids on-site. Remote raids are not possible. As a reward for winning a raid, you can enjoy wild Staralili appearing within a radius of 300 meters around the gym for 30 minutes. You will also have an increased chance of encountering a shiny specimen, just like on C-Day.
What is available in the in-game shop? Of course, you will also find relevant items in the in-game shop for the Community Day. The following can be purchased there:
- Event ticket for 1 euro for the special research “Field Notes: Staralili”
- Event stickers for the Community Day with Staralili
- Community Day box with 50 Ultra Balls, 5 Super Incubators, one Charged TM and 5 Lucky Eggs for 1,280 PokéCoins
How can you best utilize the Community Day with Staralili?
How to prepare: Of course, as you know from other events, you should create space in your Pokémon storage before the Community Day with Staralili. So start sorting out monsters now.
It’s best to use the filter and tag functions in the game. This way, you can see all Pokémon with a maximum of 2 stars directly by searching for “0*,1*,2*”. If you need to sort out more monsters during the C-Day, you can also augment the filter with the input “Older0” to only display Pokémon caught within the last 24 hours.
Besides making room for your catches, you should also sort your Item Bag and stock up on the essential items. Above all, you will need a lot of balls that day.
To avoid constantly rotating at PokéStops and gyms, it’s a good idea to start collecting now. If you plan to play for the full 3 hours, you should have at least 200 balls in your Item Bag. How to collect balls in Pokémon GO is explained in our guide:
Other items you should use for the C-Day with Staralili
Of course, balls alone will not suffice to make the most of the Community Day. So make sure to have the following items ready for the event:
Incense and Lure Modules: To catch as many Staralili as possible, you can use incense and place Lure Modules at PokéStops. These two items will attract additional specimens. Both will last for 3 hours that day, so you’ll only need one of each to cover the entire event period.
Sananaberries: If you use Sananaberries while catching, you will receive double candies. You will need these to evolve and power up Staralili. Since there is already a candy bonus, you will receive 12 candies per catch with Sananaberries and, with some luck, even additional XL candies.
Lucky Egg: During the entire event, you can benefit from 3x XP when catching. Reaching the group bonus further increases this to 4x XP. So if you want to farm XP that day, you should also activate a Lucky Egg. This will double your XP for 30 minutes.
Don’t forget that the Community Day is also an excellent opportunity to level up with your Trainer friends. Many players open their gifts at the start of the event for this reason. To maximize your XP gain, it is also advisable to activate a Lucky Egg.
It’s best to coordinate with the other players. Alternatively, check the name of the respective buddy, as trainers often rename them for leveling purposes and indicate a time there. This is particularly helpful with international friends.
Premium Battle Passes: After the Community Day with Staralili, you can also participate in level 4 raids. However, these can only be played on-site. If you want to do multiple raids, it’s wise to have a few Premium Battle Passes prepared.

Use a Mega Evolution during the Community Day with Staralili
Why is it worth it? If you want to farm even more candies by catching Staralili, you should also activate a Mega Evolution. If it is of the same type as the Pokémon you are catching, you will receive an additional candy.
Which Mega Evolution should you use? Since Staralili is Normal and Flying type, the following Mega Evolutions are suitable:
- Mega Aerodactyl
- Mega Charizard Y
- Mega Pidgeot
- Mega Kangaskhan
If you plan to battle against Staravia in the level 4 raids afterward, using Mega Aerodactyl is also recommended. The Mega Evolution not only grants you additional candies due to its flying type but also provides an advantage in battle due to its additional rock typing.
Staravia is vulnerable to rock, electric, and ice-type attacks. If you use Mega Aerodactyl in the raid, it will also amplify the rock attacks of all other Pokémon, allowing Staravia to be defeated more quickly.
Is the Community Day with Staralili worth it?
Is there shiny Staralili? Yes, shiny Staralili will be available in the game for the first time. Since there is also a higher shiny rate on Community Days, your chances of encountering one or more specimens are good. You can recognize shiny Staralili by its light brown feathers.
How strong is Staralili? The Normal and Flying-type Pokémon from the 4th generation is not particularly strong and thus does not play much of a role in raids and PvP fights (via pvpoke.com). The same goes for its first evolution, Staravia.
Staraptor, the final evolution of Staralili, can excel with a strong attack stat. Its stamina is also solid. However, it does tend to struggle a bit in defense. With Wing Attack and Brave Bird, it already has a strong moveset, although Brave Bird takes some time to charge.
With the event move Gust, it deals significantly more damage to opponents with its fast move. This makes it a better candidate for raids, thus placing Staraptor among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
Who should take advantage of the Community Day? The Community Day with Staralili is particularly interesting for shiny hunters, as it is the first time this Pokémon can be caught in its shiny form. Furthermore, Staralili features a strong evolution that benefits from the new event move, making it a good alternative for use in raids.
But the XP bonus is also worth it during the Community Day. If you lack experience points on your way to level 50, you should definitely take this opportunity.
