Finding and catching Ditto is important for Pokémon trainers in Pokémon GO. We show you our Ditto list. This list is current as of March 2026.
What kind of list is this? There are some monsters in Pokémon GO that are not easy to find. This includes the special Pokémon Ditto, which hides behind the appearance of other species.

How to find Ditto? Encountering Ditto is different from other monster encounters in Pokémon GO. While you can directly see which monster you will catch with Glumanda or Pantimos on the map or in the “Nearby” display, Ditto disguises itself as other species.
You will not find Ditto in its pure form in the wild because it initially hides its identity. A caught Digda or Kiesling could transform into a Ditto after being caught. How high the chance of finding a Ditto is remains unknown. It takes a lot of luck.
Currently, the following species can transform into Ditto:
- Myrapla
- Smogon
- Rihorn
- Goldini
- Webarak
- Camaub
- Bidiza
- Mollimorba
- Monozyto
- Arktip
- Velursi
Are there tricks to catch Ditto?
You should keep this in mind: There is no special trick to attract a Ditto. It is important that you only recognize the Ditto after catching it. So catch more of the Pokémon we show here in the list and in the graphic. After catching, an “Oh” might appear on your screen. This indicates the transformation into Ditto.
As players report, a disguised Ditto Pokémon is harder to catch. So if you encounter a Webarak that is unusually hard to catch, a Ditto might be hiding behind it.
Shiny Ditto – In the wild and in quests?
Shiny Ditto in the wild: You can now encounter Shiny Ditto in the wild. This has been possible since September 2021. Niantic states: “For the first time outside of special research, you can now also encounter a Shiny Ditto if you’re lucky! During and after this period, you can encounter Shiny Ditto in the wild as well.”
However, you should note the following:
If you encounter a Shiny Pokémon, it CANNOT transform into Ditto. However, a Pokémon that is NOT Shiny can transform into a Shiny Ditto or a normal Ditto.
Example:
- If you encounter a Shiny Kiesling, it can never transform into Ditto
- If you encounter a normal Kiesling, it can transform into a normal Ditto or a Shiny Ditto
This information has been confirmed by several Niantic partners (via reddit.com).
Ditto in a quest: Players who purchased a ticket for the Kanto tour in Pokémon GO unlocked a special research for Shiny Ditto. This is a guaranteed way to catch the Pokémon and its shiny variant. However, you cannot buy the ticket anymore.
Why does everyone want to find Ditto?
Here’s the story: Initially, trainers did not focus much on catching a Ditto. But everything changed with special research in Pokémon GO.
If you complete these quests, you are rewarded with special Pokémon. Because trainers want to possess these mystical Pokémon, they clear task by task. Thus, you inevitably arrive at the special research for Mew in Pokémon GO, which Professor Willow gives you. To successfully complete the task, you need to land 20 great throws, catch 10 ghost-type Pokémon, and catch a Ditto.
Besides the Mew quest, you also need a Ditto for the quest related to Meltan. So it’s advisable to keep an eye out for these Pokémon.
