In Pokémon GO, the current season is coming to an end and trainers must complete the special research “Misunderstood Mischief” by then to receive the new research for free. We at MeinMMO have summarized 5 tips for you to solve the tasks in time.
What kind of research is it about? At the beginning of the season of mischief, a special research was activated for the mysterious Pokémon Hoopa. This consists of a total of 16 task blocks, which were gradually released over the past months.
Now the season is soon coming to an end and in a few days, another Hoopa research will follow. However, to get this for free, trainers must complete the special research “Misunderstood Mischief” in time.
How much time do you have? To receive the new research on Hoopa, you must complete the old one by the end of the current season. This ends on December 1, 2021, at 09:59 AM local time.
How to finish the special research on time
Although the special research has been active for some time and the tasks have always been aligned with the respective events, there are some trainers who have not been able to solve all of them yet.
While the research involves many simple tasks related to throwing Poké Balls, collecting hearts with your buddy, or leveling up Pokémon, others are a bit more challenging. These include especially the capture tasks involving Psychic, Ghost, and Dark Pokémon, evolving Psyduck, finding new friends, or defeating Team GO Rocket.
We have looked at whether the tasks are still solvable just before the end of the season and have compiled 5 tips that might help you succeed.
Utilize Field Research Tasks
Psychic Pokémon: A good way to find missing Pokémon is the field research tasks in November. In these, you can find Psychic Pokémon like Baltoy, Solgaleo, Ralts, Staryu, or Psyduck.
One of these monsters is needed in the first section of the special research to make 3 snapshots of a wild Psychic Pokémon. Photograph the Pokémon using the camera symbol directly in the catch screen. You can take the three snapshots consecutively, thus already completing the first task.
You should also catch a total of 20 Psychic Pokémon for the 5th task block. You can also rely on the mentioned monsters to do this. You can find them in the following tasks:
| Task | Reward |
| Land 3 great throws | Encounter with Baltoy |
| Hatch 2 eggs | Encounter with Baltoy |
| Spin 5 PokéStops or Gyms | Encounter with Ralts |
| Walk 2 km | Encounter with Staryu |
| Feed your buddy 3 berries | Encounter with Psyduck |
Psyduck: The water and psychic Pokémon Psyduck is especially important. It is needed in task part 9/16 to evolve it. It doesn’t matter whether you use a regular Psyduck or the Galar form. You can also freely choose whether you want to evolve it into Golduck or Psyhock.
Ghost and Dark Pokémon: In addition to Psychic Pokémon, you will also encounter monsters of the Ghost and Dark types in the rewards of the field research, which are needed for task 11. You can find the following specimens:
- Spiritomb: Use 5 Pinap Berries when catching Pokémon
- With some luck, Murkrow: Take a snapshot of a wild Pokémon
Participate in Spotlight Hours
Another way to get the missing Ghost and Dark Pokémon is to participate in the special spotlight hours that will take place in the coming days as part of the Hoopa event.
There you can encounter the Ghost and Dark Pokémon Sableye on November 27, which will spawn particularly frequently from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Using incense, you can also attract additional specimens.
However, for the 11th task section, you need to catch only 30 specimens. Since Sableye belongs to both the Ghost and Dark types, you can thus solve both capture tasks of this section directly.
On November 29, the Psychic Pokémon Baltoy will be in the spotlight hour again. However, if you’re missing a Psychic Pokémon, we recommend not to wait until this event, as otherwise you might not be able to finish the subsequent tasks in time before the season change.
Make Friends
Another task (13/16) requires you to make a new friendship. Trainers publish their friendship codes on various platforms. In the following article, we have summarized how you can find international friends in the game:
The Right Choice of Your Buddy
Besides the many different Pokémon that you need to catch, photograph, or evolve, there is a task in section 11/16 that requires you to earn 3 candies by walking with your buddy. Here you can, of course, rely on one of the 20 best buddy Pokémon, but they require a greater distance to find a candy.
Therefore, it is advisable to first check your buddy chronology to see if you have any monsters that only need a few meters to the next candy. If so, take them as a buddy for a short period until you obtain the respective candy. Then switch to the next Pokémon.
If you have no former buddies with short distances, you can also rely on a Pokémon that only needs to walk 1 km to find a candy. This includes, among others, Caterpie, Weedle, or Bidoof.
If you lack the time to walk 3 km, you can also use a Snorlax, which cuts the walking distance in half.
Defeat Team GO Rocket
In the second to last task section, you’ll need to battle Team GO Rocket. They currently spawn four times a day in balloons and can also be found at PokéStops. While you solve the other tasks, you can already start saving up for your first Rocket Radar.
You will receive this when you defeat 6 Rocket Grunts. With this, you can then locate the Rocket bosses Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff. Once you have put together your first radar, hold onto it until you reach task section 15/16. This way, you can then directly face one of the bosses.
Once that’s done, you can battle against 6 Rocket Grunts again. This grants you the Rocket Radar from the 6 mysterious parts, as well as another Rocket Radar in the reward of the special research. With these, you will face two Rocket bosses again and thus secure the Super Rocket Radar in the reward.
With this, you can track down the Rocket leader Giovanni and must also defeat him. In our counter guides, we tell you which monsters are best suited for the battles against Sierra, Arlo, Cliff, and Giovanni:
Even though there are only a few days left until the end of the season, you have the opportunity to complete the special research on time. However, you must make proper use of the remaining days.
How far along are you with your special research on Hoopa? Are you stuck on one of the tasks? Do you have any further tips on what affected players can do to complete the research in time? Feel free to share your experiences here in the comments on MeinMMO and exchange ideas with other trainers.
In the coming weeks, there is still a lot planned in Pokémon GO. The Community Day in December will be huge and bring you 25 monsters. We have summarized all information about the C-Day for you.
