Since Saturday, September 5, players have reported receiving emails with a more specific release window for the PlayStation 5. According to the emails and blog post in various languages, it is set to release “Christmas 2020.” However, players are not quite sure what that means.
What do the emails say? The emails reference an official blog post from PlayStation, where an official release window is mentioned. However, this varies by region and language:
- in Swedish it says “Christmas 2020”
- in Belgium and Poland it is supposed to be “Autumn 2020”
- the Indian site refers to “later 2020”
- in Portuguese and French, it states that the PS5 will be “soon”
- in Germany and Austria, it says “End of 2020”
The German and Austrian dates are quite interesting, as the official German blog post is said to have changed. According to some users in the corresponding reddit thread, it originally also stated “Christmas.” It is said to have been changed afterward.
Until now, PlayStation officially said, that the PlayStation 5 will still be released in 2020 and previously it was mentioned “Holiday 2020.”
What does this mean now? Users are now puzzled over what date could be meant. The statements on the sites are quite different. “Christmas” is actually a very concrete statement. However, the different details unsettle them.
Players therefore suspect that the release will be between November and December and assume a date in November. This would align with all statements.
Release of the PlayStation 5 already in November?
