Players of New World have started a petition to try to save it. Over 20,000 of them believe: The loss of the MMORPG “would be a significant loss to the gaming world.”
What is the current situation with New World?
- After extensive layoffs at Amazon, the developers of New World also announced that the MMORPG is coming to an end
- The game will no longer receive new content updates in the future – this is deemed “no longer sustainable,” according to an official statement. However, the servers are supposed to continue running in 2026.
What is this petition about? It has been initiated through change.org. The petition starter directly addresses Amazon, its CEO Jeff Bezos, and the Amazon Gaming Studios.
In doing so, the developers of New World achieved something rare with the last update: MMORPG fans were overflowing with praise online. The petition also refers to this: “The latest patch has revitalized the community, demonstrating the immense value of ongoing development and updates,” it states.
Over 20,000 fans fight for the future of New World
What is the goal of the petition? The goal is to persuade Amazon to reconsider. The team behind New World: Aeternum should be allowed to continue working on new content for the game instead of putting New World into a pure maintenance state. It is obvious that the New World community thrives when new content is regularly added.
For many players, the end of New World also has a very personal aspect. Christopher Payne, the petition starter, states:
New World has given me many friends, allies, mentors, and so much more. […] I do not want to lose any friend or the community we have made here.
Without new content, however, the loss of this community is imminent. This would be a “significant loss to the gaming world,” the petition states.
The petition is gaining supporters: As of the current status (October 31, 2:12 PM), the petition has already collected 20,832 signatures – and the number is growing. Many fans still have the hope that New World will continue to receive strong content updates in the future.
