The role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is arguably the big surprise hit of the year. Many players were so thrilled that they started a new game right after their first run – but some have gone completely overboard.
What are the players doing? On Reddit, a player shared a rather special, uh, achievement on August 18: He completed the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a total of 33 times. Apparently, he did this in hopes of secret bonus content in “New Game+ 33.”
In the end, however, the player was disappointed: there was nothing new, no new secrets or cutscenes.
Player advises others not to follow in his footsteps
In the comments, the player’s hope of being the first in the world to reach this milestone is dashed. Fans refer to a post from July in which a female player explained that she completed her NG+33 after exactly 333.3 hours. Initially, she wasn’t even sure if she wanted to buy the game at all.
Although she also found no new secrets, she did manage to level every weapon and every Picto in the entire game to level 33, rested 370 times at the camp without getting a “Game Over,” and collected tons of collectibles. Now she is done with the game – at least until a sequel or DLC.
In a comment under his YouTube video about the 33rd playthrough, the player explains that he also took about 300 hours – and that alongside work, despite some sharp comments on Reddit.
However, he advises others who want to take on this challenge against it: Had he known that nothing special is hidden in the 33rd playthrough, he probably wouldn’t have tried it, but curiosity simply got the better of him. Overall, it was a bit of a waste of time.
In his opinion, after the 5th New Game+, it really isn’t worth it anymore.
