Shortly before the release of Dragonflight, players suddenly find copper and silver in their adventure guides in World of Warcraft. Apparently, this is part of a longer series that some have already completed. But what does it mean?
Where can you find the gold? Since Phase 2 of Patch 10.0 for WoW has been released, you can get individual coins from your adventure guides. By default, you open the window using the keyboard shortcut Shift+J.
If you scroll here in the “Recommended Content” using the arrows at the bottom all the way to the right, you will find a single copper coin. If you click the corresponding button below, you will receive the quest “A Piece of Copper”.
The quest rewards you with a copper piece and the achievement “Lucky Penny”. However, it continues. Since November 23rd, players suddenly find a silver coin at the same location, which also grants a quest but no achievement.
What’s it about? Apparently, you can continue these strange finds every week if you have already found the previous coin on the corresponding character. In fact, there is a secret behind it that some players have already solved – at least partially.

Several weeks for a secret – What’s behind the coins?
What happens next: If you complete the quest every time, you will receive more gold each week. A user on wowhead has already looked at the secret in the beta and found the following rewards after the silver coin:
- a gold coin
- a bag with 10 gold pieces
- a “shadow-scribbled coin” that can be sold for 100 gold
The description of the coin is: “The coin evokes a sense of otherworldliness. The heads side is scribbled with dark purple and blue lines of magical energy.” If you accept the coin, you will also receive the quest “Curious Coin” and the corresponding achievement.
Especially exciting is the quest text here:
“Thank you for the opportunity to observe you. The information I have gathered has been quite enlightening, to say the least. This is my last gift… for now.”
What’s behind it? So far, the riddle has not circulated much in the Secrets Discord of WoW as it probably will not be solvable until the release of Dragonflight. However, one user points out that the only other item with a similar description is a book you can get from the battle guild (via Twitter).
Everything else is speculation. It is possible, for example, that a supposedly dead character from Shadowlands is still alive, who enjoys dealing with such riddles and observations. The developers themselves have already announced that we may have to “wait a while” before the mystery is revealed.
