On more and more servers of Throne and Liberty, a problem is emerging that robs numerous players of the fun of MMORPGs and is hotly debated within the community.
What is this problem? MeinMMO has reported several times on the great power of guilds in Throne and Liberty and that some ambitious communities have exploited a gap to switch their early access characters to some of the later launched servers.
The negative impact of the dominance of a few guilds on the player experience of entire server communities is currently evident in a discussion on Reddit, with 3,122 upvotes and more than 850 comments. The thesis of the thread creator: “This situation will lead to the end of the game. Seriously.”
If you haven’t done so yet – join a guild in Throne and Liberty:
Pay2Win alliances dominate the servers
What is the specific accusation? On many servers of Throne and Liberty, a similar picture is emerging when looking at guild rankings: In the top 4 or top 5, communities that belong to an alliance and collaborate in open-world content are predominantly present.
The screenshot on Reddit shows guilds like JustPlay, Just, JustPrets, and JustBabosiki. According to Omnenoor (via Reddit), they are said to be located on the Cornelius server and consist mainly of Russian players who invest a lot of money in the auction house and are said to use bots to secure advantages over other communities.
The thread creator farkitto criticizes on Reddit not the Pay2Win aspect itself, but the fact that all activities in the open world where PvP is enabled are dominated by this alliance – for example, by preventing all other communities from even entering the currently active event zone.
Currently, the situation on the server is said to be so bad due to the behavior of the dominating alliance that many are considering a server switch or even quitting. Many other reports show that the situation is hardly better on other worlds.
How does the community react?
- psihpesh writes on Reddit: “The same thing is happening on Mankipak. A 4-guild alliance of Russian Swipers has been monopolizing the entire server for over a week. They even switched from an early access server with a 2-week progression lead.”
- kukuras explains on Reddit: “What these guilds do is either force conflicts or simply wait for night to come and camp the entrance to the dungeon. This dungeon is special, has only one entrance, so they can hold it with enough coordination and stop anyone not belonging to their alliance.”
- Nekibri has a simple suggestion (via Reddit): “Top guilds should not be able to team up to guarantee conflicts.”
- Holyepicafail knows this from other MMOs: “This unfortunately happens in every game […]. My friends and I were deep into Albion Online, but we came to a point where dozens of gankers were waiting at every T8 entrance. Our best hope was to wait until they got bored and ruin another game in a month.”
That it can be done differently is shown by the post from sman25000 on Reddit: “The top 3 guilds on my server have agreed not to form an alliance with each other to not choke the server as a whole. Instead, we ally with lower-ranked guilds to elevate everyone to the same level, so the server remains healthy overall.” What is the situation on your server?
