A group of players recently embarked on a journey to break the boundaries of the game world in Red Dead Online, the multiplayer part of Red Dead Redemption 2. They succeeded and found seemingly endless, lonely worlds and a beautiful desert. Then they reached the edge of the world – and jumped!
How did the players break the boundary? Some players from the group “The Grannies,” an association of Australian game developers, set out a few days ago in the online mode Red Dead Online to explore the boundaries of the game world. They used a similar glitch that cowboys in the campaign have already utilized, to visit Guarma or Mexico.
Basically, players just need to find the “edge” of the map at the right spot, and with a bit of luck, they can squeeze through the boundary at the right spot.
What did they discover? The group took plenty of screenshots of their excursion and shared them via social media. To their astonishment, the map of Red Dead Online does not simply end after the playable area but goes far beyond this… Much further.
At first, the players were greeted by a wonderful panorama of an abandoned desert paradise. After a while, the textures of the world repeated, only to abruptly change. Even further out, there were no branches, bushes, or cacti, just the bare environment.

After the group found only unfinished geometric shapes further out, transitioning into environments with low resolution, the players soon reached the apparent end of the playable world.
One player after another leaped off the edge of the world. But the adventure was still not over.
What happened after the edge of the world? On Twitter, a player recounts the journey after the group jumped off the edge of the game world. The Grannies fell further and further but were then pushed back up again. The players realized they could influence the direction in which they were falling, so they gathered and moved toward the edge.
The group fell further under the map for about an hour. The day-night cycle was visible even beneath the game world. Suddenly, the Grannies noticed they were swimming and could see a water surface.
But then it was really over, because after the group reached the water surface, they had little time left to admire the surroundings. They simply ran out of stamina.
