More than 4,800 eggs and sandals and a lawsuit
What’s the deal with the eggs and sandals? After a duel, players can throw eggs and sandals at their opponents to express their frustration about a lost match. Throwing eggs and shoes is a form of protest in some cultures.
For some players, throwing the items is also a way to maintain face after a loss.
Why is the player suing the developers? According to the player, he was hit with the items in the game 4,800 times over 6 months. The animations of the throws are publicly visible to all players.
This, according to the player, has caused him mental health issues. He states, “Every time I get pelted with eggs, I feel my self-esteem is hurt and I become depressed.”
The items are available in-game for real money, with few exceptions. Therefore, the developer profits from this feature, which is why the player is suing the studio.
How does the developer respond? The player’s lawsuit is already having an impact on the game. According to the developer, they are currently examining how to restrict the items and regulate their use.
Additionally, the developer announced that they are willing to cooperate with the player and the court in this legal dispute.
