In Elden Ring features many spooky characters that can be attacked without hesitation. However, a player describes how he sent a friendly, almost holy NPC to the afterlife. Even he himself did not find it good.

This NPC is about: The character is a huge, friendly turtle named “Miriel, Pastor of Vows”. Miriel can be found in the “Church of Vows” and is lovingly referred to by the community as “Turtle Pope” – because of the distinctive hat the turtle wears.
When you encounter Miriel, you meet a friendly figure who primarily lies around because the old legs can no longer keep up. Accordingly, Miriel is pleased that someone finally comes by. Then the turtle pastor finally has someone to talk to and can share his extensive knowledge.

Of course, there are still players who wanted to see what happens if you attack the honored reptile.
Player regrets the attack: “Don’t do it”
The player reports: Currently, a post by user “VG_Crimson” is attracting a lot of attention on the Elden Ring subreddit. The title: “I killed Turtle Pope so you don’t have to”. As of the current status (March 21, 12:00 PM), the post has over 33,000 upvotes and more than 1,000 comments (via reddit).
In the post, VG_Crimson describes how he attacked and defeated Miriel. Due to the decent health bar, this is a rather lengthy matter – and Miriel even comments on the whole thing.
“His skin is like stone, he cannot be injured or killed,” says the turtle after some attacks. Shortly afterwards, Miriel notes that one seems pretty determined to kill him – but he does not hold it against anyone.
The final blow causes Miriel to disappear – and a heartbreaking scream: “It is a sad scream, much higher than one would expect for his size,” says VG_Crimson, who wishes he hadn’t done it: “It was NG+ and I was morbidly curious. Do I regret it? Yes. Would I do it again? Never. I did it so you don’t have to.”

This is how it comes across to the community: The “Turtle Pope” apparently has a lot of fans in the Elden Ring community, as they are not happy about the death of the turtle.

A user writes that he feels like a tarnished just from reading the story – and they are not particularly popular in the Lands Between.
At the same time, some also write that at least Miriel “VG_Crimson” would probably forgive. So he has nothing to fear.
In the world of Elden Ring, there are many secrets, puzzles, and little stories to discover. The “Turtle Pope” is just as much a part of it as a strange secret passage that a player recently uncovered.
