The German MMORPG classic Tibia Online is known for things working a bit differently than in modern MMORPGs. For special occasions, the developers release items that can’t be found in the game otherwise. One such weapon is the Blessed Shield. It has now been sold for approximately 15,690 euros.
What kind of weapon is this? The Blessed Shield is one of the best weapons available in Tibia. It was handed over to the player Elleshar by the developers in 1999. Elleshar had previously helped with the graphic design for the game.
A few times, the shield was sold, until its trail was lost. There was even speculation that the shield no longer exists. However, it has now reappeared and was sold for 12 billion gold.
How much real money does that equal? In Tibia, there is the possibility to trade in-game items for Tibia Coins. These coins, in turn, can be purchased for real money.
12 billion gold corresponds to about 450,000 coins or approximately 15,690 euros. That is a lot of money for a single item. This makes it one of the most expensive items ever purchased for real money in MMOs.
The buyer has the Holy Trinity of rare items together
Who is the buyer? The buyer is the character Rei dos Antica. This is a druid at level 7. However, in reality, it is said to be one of the most well-known traders in Tibia Online, who likely possesses more than enough gold.
For Rei dos Antica reportedly owns not only the Blessed Shield but also two other items:
- The Magic Longsword, which was accidentally introduced into the game and then given away in a nerfed version. The sword was sold for 5.5 million gold years ago, but its value is likely much larger now.
- Crown, a helmet that was distributed on the Antica server in 2000. This weapon also exists only once.
In a screenshot from the house of Rei dos Antica, one can see the icons of the two items. He has thus collected something like the Holy Trinity of rare items from Tibia.
What makes Tibia so special? The MMORPG Tibia Online was released in 1997 by the German studio CipSoft and is still very popular today. This is also due to items that tell special stories. In addition, there are always mysterious puzzles or secrets that players have not solved even after years. Moreover, there have been regular updates for 25 years.
