For the Diablo franchise, Diablo Immortal (iOS, Android) was announced as the only new game in the series at BlizzCon 2018. Currently, there is more resistance than support from the community regarding the mobile game.
In the lead-up to BlizzCon 2018, there were already several speculations about what announcement regarding Diablo would be made. Many hints pointed to a fourth installment, and the “Prime Time” for the Diablo slot seemed to confirm that.
However, a Diablo 4 was quickly dismissed from fans’ minds due to a comment from Blizzard. Since then, there has been much speculation about what will come instead. Very few are satisfied with the outcome.
“We expected little and were still disappointed”
Fan asks: “Is this an April Fools’ joke?” The first reaction to the announcement of Diablo Immortal happened live at BlizzCon. Right after the presentation, there was a short Q&A with the developers.
A fan, who was either particularly brave or particularly disappointed, stood up and asked: “Is this some kind of late April Fools’ joke?” The fan received a lot of applause from the audience.
Accordingly, the reactions from the audience were also quite negative. No other announcement at a BlizzCon had previously been met with so many loud boos as the announcement of Diablo Immortal.
The community is upset: Shortly after the presentation, many topics were created on Reddit regarding this issue. Most of them were overwhelmingly negative, with many titles showing just how frustrated the fans are:
- Diablo on Mobile – RIP
- Blizzard, Diablo on Mobile is a slap in the face
- Not even a Diablo 2 Remaster… we expected almost nothing and were still disappointed
Among the negative reactions, only a few expressions of sympathy for the developers, who were “cornered” by the disappointed fans during the Q&A, were observed.
Few like the video: Perhaps the most evident and visible sign that the fans have set is the rating of the YouTube video for Diablo Immortal.
The official teaser from Blizzard has received primarily negative ratings within minutes. As of the current status (November 2 at 11:13 PM), it has already garnered 62,690 negative votes to just 2,503 positive ones.
The trailer for Diablo Immortal is hated by about 25 times more people than it is celebrated.
Perhaps Diablo can redeem itself with a Netflix series. But if a TV series comes, it will be tough.
