At Paragon, the free-to-play MOBA in open beta status for PC and PS4, endless matches have been challenged. In addition, with the latest update, epic rare cards make their debut in the game.
Paragon: The Problem
Mobas like LoL, Smite, and Heroes of the Storm are becoming increasingly popular and have a loyal, growing community. This also includes Epic Games’ recently launched Paragon in open beta. However, what deters many interested players from delving deeper into MOBAs is the often long match durations, which can seem daunting.
Not everyone has the time to dedicate themselves completely to an intense match for 30-40 minutes. When two balanced teams face off, games can even last between 60 and 90 minutes until a critical mistake by one side seals the victory for the other.
Although the recently announced average match length in Paragon was “only” 41 minutes, Epic Games’ Creative Director Steve Superville considers extreme cases of 90 minutes or more unacceptable. Therefore, measures have been and continue to be taken to reduce such time wasters. For instance, last week they reduced the health points of the T2 towers and the main orb bearer and also shortened its respawn timer.
With the current update, risky maneuvers that result in your death will be punished harsher as party duration increases. While players could previously be forced to watch their team members for up to 90 seconds, this is now increased to up to 105 seconds. This is intended to give players just that little bit more time to get closer to destroying the core in balanced matches.
Epic Rare Cards in Paragon
However, with the update, epic rare cards are making their debut in the game. These are cards that come with special mechanics. For example, with “Heavenly Mask,” you can switch freely between increased damage, resistance, or mana regeneration. The catch is that “Heavenly Mask” cannot be upgraded.
Other cards, like “Teleport Blitz” or “Connection Strike,” allow for a short teleport in the sight direction, with 35% of the base mana points or 20% of health points needing to be spent or lost first. In total, 9 epic rare cards will initially be added, which can be obtained through playing and earning reputation in card packs.
