Fans in Iran are gathering to have Clash of Clans unblocked. The pressure is yielding initial successes.
Last week we reported that the mobile game “Clash of Clans” was blocked in Iran for promoting tribal warfare.
Fans of Clash of Clans in Iran are not taking this lightly, as reported by VentureBeat. They have inundated the Instagram page of the Minister of Communications with posts. Instagram is the most popular social medium in Iran. The players are posting on the Minister’s page statements like: “If the government does not lift the blockade, we will not vote in the election next year.”
Apparently, the campaign has had an effect: The Minister posted on Instagram that he would address the situation. Subsequently, the President of Iran, Rouhani, also intervened and agreed with the Minister. Now it is believed that the government must handle the player community more carefully.
Clash of Clans has an estimated 5.5 million players in Iran. That’s a lot of votes in a country with 80 million inhabitants.
Until now, Trion’s turn-based action strategy game Atlas Reactor was a buy-to-play title. Those who didn’t want to pay had to make do with a stripped-down free version, in which only a handful of the over 20 freelancer heroes were playable each week. As a player of the free version, unlike in Heroes of the Storm or LoL, players couldn’t unlock any additional heroes and couldn’t even purchase them with real money!
Finally Free-to-Play
Many players found this arrangement silly and wanted Atlas Reactor to be a proper free-to-play game. Therefore, the developers listened to the community, and starting January 17, you will be able to unlock more freelancers in Atlas Reactor through in-game progress or real money. Those who purchased the full version will continue to receive all heroes for free and will even get a small thank you gift at the start of free-to-play.
On January 17, the second season of the story of Atlas Reactor begins, meaning there will not only be new episodes in the background story but also you can look forward to new freelancers and cool loot. Even the tutorial will be improved and is intended to bring players into the game faster!
Jürgen says: I found the payment model of Atlas Reactor as a buy-to-play game with a kind of unlimited demo version actually quite okay and found the price for the full version reasonable. Therefore, I don’t need a free-to-play model with purchasable freelancers. But okay, as long as no pay-to-win methods are introduced this way, and I still get all freelancers for free with my full version, I’m fine with it.
Overwatch is releasing more information about the deaths of heroes – this will benefit the game overview.
Currently, the next patch is being tested on the Overwatch PTR. This is packed with changes to game balance, particularly affecting Roadhog’s hook, Sombra’s hacking abilities, and D.Va’s strength.
At the same time, Blizzard has also sneaked in some subtler changes into the update, aimed at giving players more information on the battlefield. The kill feed has been completely overhauled.
The kill feed is located by default in the upper right corner of the screen (it can be disabled in the options) and indicates which character was killed by whom. Previously, the kill feed was only provided with minimal information, so one would only know “Tracer killed Soldier: 76” – how exactly that happened is currently a puzzle.
Is it just luck or all headshots? The kill feed reveals it now.
With patch 1.7, the kill feed has become significantly more informative and now includes the following information:
A normal kill is indicated by a white arrow (regular weapon damage).
A critical kill is indicated by a red arrow (usually a headshot).
A kill by an ability is indicated by the ability’s icon (any damage-dealing ability in the game).
A kill by ultimates is additionally indicated by flickering lightning around the icon (High Noon, Configuration: Tank, etc.).

For many players, this change may not carry much weight, while others will now receive the information they have long desired. For instance, it is much easier to recognize whether the opposing Widowmaker is landing mostly headshots and is therefore particularly dangerous, or whether McCree has already used his “High Noon”, should one have missed the audio cue in the heat of battle.
In FIFA Mobile, TOTY cards are available. We summarize the information.
FIFA Mobile is the current football simulation from EA Sports on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. Not only in FIFA 17, but also in FIFA Mobile, the “Team of the Year” is celebrated. This was announced yesterday, on January 9th, in Zurich.
From now on, the strikers from the Team of the Year are available: Lionel Messi (98), Cristiano Ronaldo (99), and Luis Suarez (98) – see title image. These have the same overall ratings as the TOTY cards in FUT 17. By the way: The ratings of many other player cards in FIFA Mobile do not correspond to those ratings in FIFA 17.
You have two options to get the TOTY cards:
TOTY Special Packs: Throughout the week, there will be several packs and bundles that may contain a player from the Team of the Year.
TOTY Player Plans: If you don’t have luck with the packs, you can complete Player Plans and earn the TOTY cards this way. These plans will be unlocked throughout the week. You will need various items, such as silver, gold, and elite player items, elite trophies, and TOTY tokens.
In an exciting story, you will learn more about the rework of the champion Warwick in LoL.
The trailer looks like a clip from a movie. With this trailer, the League of Legends team once again shows how high-quality work is done at Riot. Warwick is the popular wolf from League of Legends, who will also undergo a visual change with his upcoming update. In the film “Zhaun’s Unleashed Fury“, you already get a taste of the rework.

Two figures are fleeing from something evil after a deal, which is not yet recognizable at the beginning of the film. While they are on their way to a kind of escape pod, the evil is getting closer. When the character, from whose perspective we experience the adventure, arrives at a Bioshock-style escape pod, time is running out. He closes the door before his accomplice arrives in the pod.
From the damaged pod, he can observe how the wolf has killed his accomplice. Warwick actually wanted to leave the place, but when he smelled the blood of the survivor, he became angry and powerful.
This teaser suggests that Warwick still has an ability triggered by wounded enemies. However, instead of higher movement speed, he gains the ability to jump far in the video. This could hint at a possible dash ability. On the other hand, the radius of his ultimate ability might be increased when a wounded enemy is nearby.
Although there are no exact details about Warwick’s new abilities yet, the video shows that something particularly evil is coming our way.
In Hearthstone there are likely some nerfs coming again. The classic cards are a thorn in the developers’ side.
The big goal of the Hearthstone developers is to keep the game fresh every year by implementing new cards and rotating others out. Once “removed” cards can still be used in the “Wild” format, which has few restrictions. However, only certain sets are allowed in the “Standard” format – typically this includes the expansions from the current and last year as well as the basic and classic cards. But now these approximately 400 basic/class cards are becoming a problem for the developers.
Back then, players remarked that the classic set should simply be sorted out as well to force all players to try really “new” things. At the time, this was denied, as the classic and basic cards are an entry point for players into Hearthstone and convey the typical Warcraft flair.
Ben Brode, however, realizes that these cards are the most powerful that the game has to offer, and thus the danger exists that each expansion only brings minor changes to “evergreen” decks while the meta around it changes little.
Therefore, Brode already warns players that there might be new nerfs to the classic cards in the spring – possibly some will even be completely shifted out of the set and will only be useful in “wild” play.
Players naturally take this with mixed feelings. While one side welcomes these changes because they would benefit the game, others suspect behind it Blizzard’s big money conspiracy that simply aims to force all players to constantly buy new cards in order to have any chance of climbing the ranks.
Brode denies this, stating “There have always been free-to-play players who have reached the Legend rank without spending money. This will still be the case after the nerfs.”
In Destiny, we are looking at the Videos of the Week. Our community shows creativity!
Starting next Thursday, Bungie will resume weekly operations and provide us with important announcements in “This Week at Bungie” along with the Videos of the Week. Therefore, we have to do without a selected video showcase from the global Guardian community today.
But that’s okay: Because we have received some really strong clips from our community. Four pieces we want to introduce to you.
Let’s start with a video from Andy Edition. He asks Xur a few questions, and the Agent of the Nine responds. It’s particularly interesting for lore-loving Guardians to hear what Xur reveals when you patiently listen to him.

At the Hi-Rez Expo 2017, Paladins announced the first season. Additionally, a new Ying skin “Genie” and a new map “Stone Keep” were introduced. The beta for PS4 and Xbox One is also set to start soon.
Yesterday, on January 8, the Hi-Rez EXPO concluded, where Paladins held its largest eSports event to date: the HRX Invitational. Between the matches, Hi-Rez Studio announced new content and the first competitive season for Paladins. Moreover, Hi-Rez announced that Paladins will soon come to PS4 and Xbox.
According to Hi-Rez Studio, the first competitive season for Paladins will start shortly after the Hi-Rez EXPO 2017. The exact start date for Season 1 is not yet known. The first season will initially launch only on PC. However, console players who are curious about Paladins can also look forward to it: Hi-Rez promised a beta start for PlayStation 4 and Xbox within the first quarter of this year.
Despite the competitive season starting, the hero shooter will remain in beta. The Hi-Rez EXPO ended yesterday, so Season 1 shouldn’t be too far away.
New Skins for Ying and Victor
With the first season, new content will be added to Paladins. This includes a skin for Ying in an oriental style, which turns the support into a genie. Viktor will receive a new skin that makes him look like a green soldier toy.
Ying-Genie-Skin
The Ying-Genie skin will come with four different head decorations and two weapons that match the oriental style. The skin was released with a short video and received only moderate feedback in the Twitch live chat.

Visually, the skin would be appealing, but most didn’t like the voice. In fact, something seems to have gone wrong during the voice line recordings. When the voice actress raises her voice, the microphone distorts.
Green-Code-Viktor-Skin
The Green-Code skin for Viktor also comes with a variety of different skin parts. You can assemble the skin from four different bodies, heads, and weapons. With these, Viktor looks like a green plastic soldier that you might find in game rooms.
New Map “Stone Keep” resembles a fairy-tale castle
The new map “Stone Keep” will also be released with the start of the first season. The map features a castle and a cathedral that fit Paladins’ fantasy style and appear fairy-tale romantic. The map will also promote corridor gameplay.

Sombra from Overwatch is considered underpowered by many fans. A player on Reddit has come up with an optimal solution.
Those who follow the discussions in the various forums around Overwatch know that there is currently a lot of talk about the upcoming patch 1.07. A hot topic here is the adjustment of Sombra, who will receive a small buff.
She can now hack targets 20% faster than before. Where she previously needed a full second, she can now disable her target in 0.8 seconds. But most players feel that this is still not enough; Sombra still feels underwhelming in most situations.
A post on Reddit has now soared to over 10,000 upvotes, proposing a simple and effective solution to the current problem. The user Meldorn posted his suggestion and received immediate support from the community:
“Sombra is an offensive hero and needs good DPS. However, if her DPS is increased too much, it encourages players to play her only as a frontal attacker – a Tracer variation – instead of as a flanker, as she was originally designed to be.
I believe that the solution here is a middle ground: Sombra’s damage against hacked targets needs to be increased. (…)
When you hack someone, you have spent the surprise element for the hack instead of dealing damage. Sure, the victims no longer have access to their abilities. But Sombra also has no active combat abilities. All you’ve achieved by outsmarting the opponent is that the battlefield is now equal: your left click against their left click.
To be a decent DPS hero, Sombra’s left click needs to be able to win fights when she has earned it. She earns that by hacking an opponent, just like Roadhog earns it when he hits with his hook.
If Sombra is played correctly, flanking and hacking as intended, then she will be rewarded with extra damage to secure kills, without her playstyle turning into that of Tracer. One more note: The damage bonus only applies to Sombra and not to other teammates.”
Cortyn says: Meldorn’s idea sounds excellent to me, as that is usually the dilemma when playing Sombra: Do you use the short advantage for a hack and die, or do you deal damage but not disable the abilities? His solution allows for a new, effective playstyle that finally lets Sombra do what she should be able to do: hack and flank.
Pokémon GO was the most downloaded app in the App Store in 2016, which probably does not surprise most. But why does everyone actually find Pokémon so great?
Apple recently announced that Pokémon GO had been the most downloaded app in the App Store in 2016. Pokémon GO was already downloaded over 75 million times on the day of its release and even more downloads followed. This information probably does not surprise many, as the streets were completely crowded in the summer of 2016 with diligent trainers hunting for the pocket monsters.
Why have we liked pocket monsters for almost over 20 years?
Pokémon has always offered a wide variety
Pokémon GO included the first generation of Pokémon at release, which appeared in 1996 with Pokémon Red and Blue. At that time, there were still 151 Pokémon, which have now been expanded to 802 Pokémon. This made it easy to find a Pokémon one was immediately fond of and would love to have as a companion by one’s side.
According to psychologists, the desire to collect things is deeply rooted in human psychology. Pokémon gained prominence with the slogan “Catch them all!” and stimulated this collecting instinct in players. To catch all the Pokémon, players had to trade with other players even in the first generation.
Not all Pokémon of each generation were ever available in the different editions. Back then, it was done via a Game Boy link cable, which compelled players to go outside and connect with other players. This encouraged trainers to discuss Pokémon with others and share their common hobby.
Pokémon has always been present in various media
Pokémon has not only captivated Game Boy fans but has also been promoted through other media.
There are Pokémon as anime, manga, toys, on clothing, as games on the Game Boy, various consoles, as a card game, and since last year also on smartphones. This has allowed Pokémon to appeal to a broad audience and thus ingrained itself in the minds of many children and of course also adults.
Pokémon has never been gone
Pokémon has never really been gone. The boom from the nineties may have waned for a while, but the games and other franchise continued to sell highly successfully for many years. With each new generation, Pokémon has also produced a new generation of aspiring trainers.
Pokémon has never stagnated
Even though Pokémon has remained true to its original concepts of “collecting, trading, battling,” it has continuously evolved. With the expansion of the Pokédex, it was never boring to collect Pokémon. Nintendo also continually reinvented the attacks and types of pocket monsters. New concepts like “Mega Evolutions” also found their way into the game. There were always small and larger changes with each generation, providing enough variety in the games.
That is probably why Nintendo decided to release Pokémon GO for smartphones. It fits the times.
Leya says: These are the reasons for me why Pokémon was already a highlight before Pokémon GO even existed. It is no surprise that Pokémon GO became the most downloaded app in 2016 and an overnight mega success. However, Pokémon has already come a long way and will probably not stop evolving anytime soon, hopefully bringing joy to many generations to come.
What are your reasons for why Pokémon is generally so successful? By the way, I am currently still occupied with Pokémon Moon.

The PvP MMORPG Crowfall attracts investors. The new crowdfunding campaign is going well. The first stretch goal has been reached, and another has been announced.
The ongoing crowdfunding campaign for Crowfall on Indiegogo is different from those on Kickstarter. Here, players do not contribute money to support development and gain access to the game. The campaign targets investors, who will also receive money back if the company performs well.
Currently, about 35 percent of the desired one million dollars has been raised. By the way, it is not possible to exceed the goal, as this represents the limit of investments that are legally allowed.
First stretch goal unlocked!
The 35 percent have unlocked a stretch goal. All investors will receive a special villa as well as a woodland glade resource plot in the MMO. Supporters who join before the end of this investor campaign will also receive the woodland glade resource plot.
Additionally, the next and final stretch goal has been announced. If 50 percent of the desired amount is reached, the investors will receive the Fallen Colossus plot.
Build player cities with plots
Marc Simonetti created concept art for Crowfall. He works as an artist on Game of Thrones.
These can be built like all plots in the Eternal Kingdoms. You use them to establish and run a player city, which in this case consists of a hamlet made up of two cells. The ArtCraft Studios state that this plot is unique. This means that this plot will only be available during the funding campaign and cannot be acquired afterwards.
In contrast to the woodland plots, which you can currently purchase at discounted prices. However, only until January 15th. Then the funding campaign for the PvP MMORPG Crowfall ends.
Which MMOs were particularly cool in 2016 and are still cool in 2017? Our YouTube partner Refaser played a lot of games last year and created the top 10 best online games of 2016 and 2017 at the turn of the year. Among them are classics like WoW: Legion as well as hidden gems such as The Secret World.
MMOs require a lot of time and attention from players. Therefore, most gamers don’t play too many of these games at the same time and focus rather on one game. However, our YouTube partner Refaser has a heart for many different titles that he has played often and regularly in 2016. The games on the list don’t necessarily have to have been released in 2016 (that would be a short list), but they can also be a bit older.
In it, each of the ten games is briefly described, and their advantages are explained. You can find the video here. But what do you think of Refaser’s list? Do you share his opinion or do you have other MMO favorites? Let us know and write it in the comments!
The first-person view is generally uncommon when it comes to MMOs. Nevertheless, the developers of the upcoming pirate online game Sea of Thieves are betting on this perspective.
The reason for choosing this perspective is explained by the developers in a blog post: An important reason for this is “immersion.” It simply feels entirely different to play from a first-person perspective. You can immerse yourself much more into the character and proceed more thoughtfully, as you can only see what is happening in front of you.
Since you cannot see what is happening behind you – unless you turn around – this leads to a different style of play. You are more cautious, look around more, and thus get a different feel for the game and the environment.
Enjoy the immersion
This “brief pause,” looking around, examining the environment more closely, or simply stopping to enjoy the scenery makes the game a little slower than other MMOs. In a game played from a third-person perspective, you know what is happening within a certain radius around you.
However, this makes third-person games feel less “realistic.” Moreover, the game from the first-person perspective is much more about the environment and not about observing a character.
Another important point is that cooperative gameplay between crew members is strengthened. You cover each other during fights or when exploring islands. Or you stand closely together to look at a treasure map. You then hold it up to show where the treasure might be hidden. Everything is closer to the player, and the player themselves is also closer to the action in the game.
Third-person is only available in exceptional cases
However, the developers are considering whether there should also be a limited option to switch to a third-person perspective in certain situations. They are aware that many players want to see their character and what they are currently wearing.
For example, you could switch to a follower view when the hero sits down on a chair in a tavern or when they sit with the crew around a campfire. However, the core of the game will always take place in the first-person view.
Sea of Thieves is currently in a technical alpha and is set to be released in Q1 2017 for Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One.
Revelation Online offers not only special PvP arenas but also open PvP, where players can freely battle each other as they please. However, those who overindulge in “Ganking” will face severe penalties.
Most online role-playing games have special arenas for PvP battles. However, usually, peace prevails among players in the open world. Some games, like the upcoming Revelation Online, employ open PvP. This way, players can attack and slay each other at any time.
Penalties for Gankers
However, not all players are fair game. Only when level 40 is reached can you be attacked by other players. This also means that you could become a victim of “Ganking“. In MMO jargon, Ganking refers to the arbitrary slaughter of – often weaker – other players. Since this behavior is not enjoyable for most victims, such actions are sanctioned in Revelation Online.
If a player kills another player who does not fight back, the “killer” receives a “killer mark.” As long as one carries this mark, they lose an equipment item upon each death in PvP. The mark can only be removed through specific quests or items.
Therefore, Ganking must be worthwhile to someone. Conversely, those who place less value on open PvP can also have fun in special arenas, where modes like 10vs10, 20vs20, and 30vs30 are available. Additionally, there is an option to ensure that you do not accidentally attack your party members.
Jürgen says: I am not a fan of open PvP, as I believe it mainly results in annoying Ganking. As a PvE fan, I actually want little to no PvP and find nothing more annoying than being slaughtered by my fellow players after a hard fight or while talking to NPCs. However, I can somewhat agree with the system of Revelation Online. But what do you think? Do you like open PvP or should PvP and PvE be strictly separated?
Being Soldier: 76 from Overwatch – with a VR system developed by Korean students, that is possible.
How cool would it be to truly immerse yourself in your favorite video game? Thanks to today’s “Virtual Reality” technology, this is already quite feasible in some games. Overwatch was not initially designed for VR systems, but that did not stop a group of Korean students from implementing exactly that.
The VR system they developed even goes beyond what has so far only been represented by goggles and maybe one or two motion sensors. Anyone who enters these students’ machine can actually try out Soldier: 76 with all his abilities “in reality”. The image is transmitted through a typical VR headset, and a ring around the waist controls the movement in different directions.
But the abilities of Soldier: 76 have also been relatively accurately transferred – as the player holds a weapon in their hand. Tapping the magazine triggers the reload, and another button on the side of the weapon activates the mobile healing station. The coolest detail is probably the “Aimbot” ultimate, which is activated – just like Soldier: 76 in the game – by turning on a sensor on the goggles.
The following video shows the setup and use of the VR system:

One might not be very effective and helpful with this VR setup, especially since there is a massive input lag that brings a delay of almost a second. However, it is a cool experience to really “step into the role” of Soldier: 76 to shout at enemies, “I’ve got you in my sights!”
Funcom has released a new video on the survival RPG Conan Exiles that shows how to build a home. This serves as a retreat where you can “unwind” from all the battles.
Your adventures in Conan Exiles literally start with nothing. However, through hard work and the will to survive, you can not only build a hut and hunt with self-made weapons but also erect a fortress or establish entire cities with other players. This “home” has a purpose: throughout your adventures, you will collect many treasures, including weapons and armor, which you either craft yourself or find. All of this has some value.
Fortress and Place of Rest
In your home, you can store loot and your gear. Since your items are loot for your enemies, you should secure them well, which is why you should fortify your home.
The construction and continual expansion are therefore important if you don’t want to be constantly raided. Additionally, the developers at Funcom explain that building structures and fortresses serves as a breather from all the battles and more action-packed activities. You can decorate your home at your leisure, just the way you imagine it.
Show Off with Your Decorations
Then, you invite friends over to show them how you decorated your buildings. Additionally, the buildings serve as meeting points for guilds. This allows you to plan your next steps safely and in peace. You place buildings completely freely and expand them based on modules like walls, roofs, stairs, or stone blocks according to your ideas. Where you build your house is up to you – how about a structure built against a cliff?
To find out how building works in the upcoming role-playing game Conan Exiles and what you can do, it’s best to check it out in the new video. Conan Exiles will begin its early access phase on PC on January 31. Xbox One owners will have to wait until spring. Those who want to play on PlayStation 4 can only do so after the official release of the game.

Many agents believe that the precision of the opposing NPCs in The Division could use a nerf.
Everyone has probably experienced a situation like this: You are running through the Dark Zone or in the middle of a fight – suddenly you take hits from a rioter who is three blocks away, waving his pistol around. Not only does he land a lucky shot, but several critical hits in a row, making you wonder: How can this NPC hit so accurately?
Almost every shot is a hit
This question has been raised by many agents recently, and discussions about it have taken place in the reddit forum. It seems extremely unrealistic that every NPC can shoot from great distances with a pistol or submachine gun as if they were using a sniper rifle. After all, not even the Division agents can do that – who have been trained unlike the rioters.
Massive should reduce the precision of all factions, with noticeable gradations desired among the enemy classes: The LMB should have the best accuracy while the rioters have the least.
Not only too precise, but also too fast
The discussion about accuracy sparked another discussion: The movements of the NPCs, especially their movement speed. If a guy with a napalm canister on his back can cover 100 meters in 6 seconds, that seems questionable.
Furthermore, it’s annoying that status effects like bleed or burn do not limit an NPC in their speed. Also, NPCs can easily take shots and continue sprinting happily.
Is PvE too easy anyway?
Other agents see no reason to complain about these points. PvE certainly does not need nerfs, as it currently seems to be rather easy. If enemies were to only land half of their shots, it would not be a challenge at all.
Therefore, it should not be nerfs that provide relief, but rather a general improvement of AI – so that the combat feels more realistic.
So far, we have not heard from Massive whether update 1.6 will even overhaul the NPCs.
Games like Destiny and The Division dominate the sales charts. What other multiplayer shooters with MMO elements are there in 2017? Where are similar games to Destiny or The Division?
Since Destiny appeared on the scene in late 2014, multiplayer shooters with MMO elements have become a huge thing. These “MMO-Shooters” combine gameplay with the hunt for loot or other aspects of MMOs. What games like Destiny are there? What can one reach for? We will take a look at four titles.
Destiny – Kill aliens while talking with your friends
Destiny is a sci-fi MMO shooter. It is available for PS4 and Xbox One. The secret of Destiny’s success is based on three pillars.
The Combat Loop
The theory goes back to the Halo days. If you can entertain players for 30 seconds with exciting gameplay, you can keep them engaged for hours by looping those 30 seconds. That’s the 30-Second Combat Loop.
In those 30 seconds, players must shoot, change positions, throw a grenade, assess enemies, dodge, and do many other things that are fun and adrenaline-pumping.
What’s important here, and often overlooked: The 30 seconds should not feel the same. The core remains, but every 30 seconds should feel different through various variants: Different areas, different enemies, and situations always require new decisions. Different weapons and processes provide the solution for new situations that the player must navigate.
Destiny has succeeded with this. Especially since the variants Bungie spoke of became more diverse through the MMO elements.
Items change the gaming experience: The players’ collection obsession
In shooters, the player experience changes through different types of weapons used. Playing with a sniper rifle feels different than with a rocket launcher or a machine gun. That has always been the case.
Destiny takes this concept to the extreme by making distinctions between individual weapons even within a weapon category. “The Last Word” plays differently than the “Thorn.” Due to Destiny’s outstanding gunplay, players can distinctly feel when a new weapon has slightly different recoil, fires faster or slower than the current gun.

The classes and subclasses that the player takes on add such variants; they change movement patterns and skill sets of the players – exotic armor pieces change yet other nuances in gameplay.
The longer a player plays Destiny, the more armor and weapons they will collect. This does not necessarily increase their direct power in a vertical progression, but their choice widens; horizontal progression becomes the focus of character development.
Players thus seek different weapons and armor to discover a play style they feel comfortable with. This invites experimentation and awakens a collecting instinct. Maybe the next weapon is the one that fits perfectly and makes them even better. This and the natural collecting instinct of players drive motivation.
This character development through collecting weapons and items harmonizes with the gameplay and brings precisely that variety to the 30 seconds that underlies the fun of Destiny.
The Community
Both ingredients only come into play in the various activities of Destiny. Especially in the coop part of the game, in PvE, they can shine. When a well-coordinated team of 6 Guardians conquers the intricate challenges in raids while jokes fly through the voice chat, Bungie achieves the goal that one of the creative minds phrased so well: “Destiny is: Shoot aliens in the head while discussing the Oscars with your friends.”
A fascinating, adventurous world that works because countless details and game mechanics intertwine and function beneath the surface. But on the surface, Destiny is an adventure that captivates millions of players worldwide.
In Destiny, we present a special Warlock build focused on melee and grenade specialization.
Currently, there isn’t much happening in Bungie’s MMO shooter: The Iron Banner in January is still waiting for its start date, and it’s unclear how things will proceed in 2017.
Therefore, we are seizing the opportunity to provide some variety in your PvE activities. Try out this special Warlock build that can unleash “infinite” melee attacks and storm grenades through hordes of enemies. Weapons become nearly unnecessary here. My name is Byf presents it in the video:

This build (if one is even allowed to speak of builds in Destiny) is intended for PvE. You need the Stormcaller focus and the “Iron Lord” artifact Felwinter’s Lie.
You want to achieve that you can perform infinite melee attacks (Thunderstrike) and throw infinite grenades (Storm Grenade). The melee regenerates the grenade, and the grenade regenerates the melee. This creates a true “storm” of attacks.
Here’s how to do it:
Equip Felwinter’s Lie: You lose your Super, but you gain an extra grenade and an additional melee attack. Additionally, all stats receive slight boosts. When you pick up Orbs of Light, you also gain energy for melee and grenades.
When playing as Stormcaller, focus on these focus nodes:
Storm Grenade: A grenade that invokes a targeted storm.
Chain Lightning: The melee attack extends to another nearby enemy.
Feedback: Incoming melee attacks fully charge the Thunderstrike and amplify it.
Everlasting Charge: A grenade kill recharges the melee, and a melee kill recharges the grenade.
For the armor, items that increase melee speed and grenade throw range are interesting. For example, the Ophidian Aspect provides both.
What Defines the Warlock Build
Actually, using Felwinter’s Lie in PvE is discouraged, as you don’t want to miss out on the power of the Super. Even with this build, it is annoying that the strength of the Storm Trance is missing. However, you have another advantage:
You can throw one grenade after another, which ultimately causes more damage over time than a Super. The Super deals devastating damage initially, but then it needs to regenerate for minutes. The fact that you are dealing consistently high grenade damage makes this build so strong.
By the way: The Storm Grenade deals great damage, which destroys most adds directly. Thanks to Chain Lightning, you can eliminate two enemies with one Thunderstrike, allowing you to receive both grenade charges. The Warlock’s melee attack has a certain range, so you don’t have to be in close contact with the enemy.
However: Against a boss, this Warlock build has disadvantages. It is designed for a melee style, and most bosses are better eliminated from a distance. With a sniper and a rocket launcher, you have a better chance against the boss. Since you are otherwise always in close proximity to the enemy, a shotgun is a fitting choice. The Monte Carlo is an interesting option for the primary weapon slot.
Conclusion: This Warlock build is supposed to be a lot of fun in PvE and a welcome change. Focus on grenades and melee attacks. There are certainly better and less risky builds, but this shows that different playstyles are also possible in Destiny. And this build can shine especially when Arc Soul, Brawler, and Catapult are active…
