The layoff of about half of the employees at the developer studio Portalarium is now having an impact on the MMORPG Shroud of the Avatar.
Last month, the developer studio Portalarium had to announce that for financial reasons several employees had to be laid off. It has now been confirmed that about half of the staff who worked on Shroud of the Avatar were affected.
Designer Richard “Lord British” Garriott mentioned in the official forum that the studio has taken “a hit”, but they are now trying to get everything back on track. However, the layoff of so many employees is now showing effects on the MMORPG.
Kickstarter promise cannot be fulfilled
Expensively purchased Kickstarter promise will not come. During the Kickstarter campaign for Shroud of the Avatar in 2013, backers could purchase, for at least $5,000, the opportunity to receive a unique head for their character. This would then be created by the developers based on a submitted photo.
However, the team has now had to announce that this feature will not be implemented. Financial, time, and also technical reasons stand in the way of fulfilling this promise.
As a substitute, there will now be crafted game items by the developers such as decoration for housing, weapons, or armor. Many fans are not only disappointed about this change in the official game forum but also angry. After all, $5,000 is not an insignificant amount of money. Receiving some item instead of the head is unacceptable for many. Nevertheless, the team insists on this change.
What about the novel for Shroud of the Avatar? Also during the Kickstarter campaign, a novel titled “Blade of the Avatar” was announced for all backers who donated at least $200. This was supposed to be sent as a printed book. Those who spent at least $500 were to receive a copy signed by Richard Garriott and author Tracy Hickman.
As so far not even the other physical items like box, fabric map, manual, and more have been sent, but all this has already been produced and is just about to be shipped, the question arose in the SotA forum about what is happening with the novel. It has not been mentioned for a long time.
Producer Starr Long then explained that the production of the book is next on the agenda and it cannot be shipped with the other items due to logistical reasons. However, many are annoyed by this explanation. How the book will proceed, when it will arrive, and whether there will be additional shipping costs is still open.
The MMORPG Shroud of the Avatar launched officially on March 27. However, the player numbers leave much to be desired, which was probably also a reason for the layoffs. Nevertheless, the developer studio plans a second episode, which apparently is to be funded again through Kickstarter.

The Korean version of Black Desert has been expanded with the new life skill stat “Life Skill Mastery.” It grants players better rewards when crafting. We explain how it works.

Blizzard demonstrates with the upcoming expansion World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth that they can still create a dark atmosphere. On the Alliance’s side, this is especially evident in the dark forest of Drustvar. We have taken an intense look at it over the past few days on the beta server.
Witch Cults and Inquisitors in Drustvar
Basically, a veil of fear hangs over all of Drustvar. Almost every village has been cursed or already wiped out by the witches of the Heartbane Circle. The various curses manifest classically and remind of typical adventures from pen & paper stories – but each time they have a very dark touch.
In Fallhaven, the first stop on our journey, time has stopped, at least for the villagers. They stand frozen, caught in their activities. Families are having dinner, a sausage vendor is promoting his goods, the village chief is posting something on the notice board. However, the animals of the land are not frozen. This causes crows to peck at the residents’ faces while wolves prey on the defenseless.
Further to the east, in the Butcher’s Harbor, another curse exists. Here, the workers have been turned into pigs. Only a single man has retained his human form: the butcher. Driven by the curse, he thinks of nothing else but to slaughter the piglets one by one and also the enchanted townspeople.
Does that sound macabre? It is. Drustvar is brimming with creepy, ghastly disgust that often plays out only in the mind.
Inspiration from Film and Game Worlds
It is evident in many places where Blizzard has drawn inspiration. The strange wicker men, constructs of the witches made from willow, bones, and flesh, are inspired by numerous horror films (such as recently “The Ritual”), while the founding of a new order of the Inquisition has a flair reminiscent of the game series Dragon Age.
Such allusions can be found many times. Even “Tiny Tina” from Borderlands 2 makes an appearance in the form of the little girl “Anneke Lehmann”, whom we must help at a “great tea party”. For her, we have to collect her stuffed animals and also a dead cat – all guests of the tea party. She constantly speaks in eerie rhymes and apart from her, it seems no one else lives in the village.
Drustvar Brings Mysteries Back to Warcraft
As a role-playing fan, I am particularly pleased that the game world has gained much more than just a new zone with Drustvar. Witchcraft in Warcraft has been expanded with a classic yet new element.
Witchcraft is no longer just “fel magic, demons, and green fire”, but now also strange fetishes, curses over entire villages, rituals of blood, bones, and willow – but even more: It is unexplained. It is mysterious.
Especially the recent expansions have illuminated many eerie and creepy aspects far too precisely and dissected them into their mathematics and details. This feeling is at least still missing, and it gives Drustvar and the Heartbane Circle a charm that I already find myself longing for.

Hope fades: Rockstar says that modders were responsible for the news about the release date of GTA 6. The news circulated in GTA 5.
Fake news: In the multiplayer and single-player sessions of GTA 5, news about a release of GTA 6 circulated in recent hours. The game displayed that the new installment of the Grand Theft Auto series is supposed to be released in 2019.
Clearly fake, right? Many players could not immediately recognize the news as “fake” because it was presented in a particularly credible manner. Hope for authenticity was there: It was foreseeable that the news was not real. However, the hope for GTA 6 was so strong among some players that they waited for the official confirmation from Rockstar. Only then was the news accepted as “fake.”
There are still no signs of when Rockstar will present a new title in the GTA series. For now, the new Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to be released in October 2018. Justice Online, also known as Treacherous Waters Online, is the new flagship MMORPG from NetEase. The company is responsible for the distribution of World of Warcraft in China and has become known in the West as the developer of the Asia-MMORPG Revelation Online.
The world of the MMORPG is based on a Wuxing novel called “Treacherous Waters” and features the typical Asia-Fantasy setting that players will recognize from many other games of this type.

In the story of the open beta, the character follows a linear story strand that does not offer choices for different dialogues. Whether this will remain the case at higher levels is still uncertain.

The developer NetEase aims for Justice Online to become the “next big thing” among Asian and Kung Fu MMORPGs, which can boast not only an exciting story but also a strong combat system.
Since the launch of the open beta test in the Chinese region, there are plenty of gameplay videos about Justice, demonstrating the combat system and the classes of the MMORPG. Justice offers players a choice of six different classes, all of which are exclusively available for either the male or female gender.
What classes are available?
The class names listed here are not official. As no translations of the names exist, they represent a description of the main features of the class. The following classes were available to players of the open beta test:

Action-oriented martial arts combat system: Similar to Lost Ark, the combat system of Justice Online is non-target, meaning you will not be able to actively lock onto opponents during combat. Instead, individual attacks must be aimed at the opponents and may miss.
NetEase emphasized that combos play a very significant role in the combat, and players must pay attention to which abilities are used in a combo at what time.
Even though there is no such strict role distribution as in WoW or FFXIV in Justice, one should assemble a balanced group for a dungeon that also includes support classes so that the group does not collectively bite the dust.

What other features are there?
PvP in Arena and Open World: PvP enthusiasts will be able to compete with other players in a 6v6 mode in Justice Online. The arena features a ranked mode where players fight for the top spot on the leaderboard.
However, there will also be PvP battles outside the arena. At this point, it is still unclear how free and unrestricted it will be in the finished game.
Houses for Everyone: A housing system is also in the works. Besides the actual houses, players will be able to build gardens and even expand to a whole farm with animals.

Crafting and Trading Systems: As it should be in a good MMORPG, Justice also features a detailed crafting system that allows players to create various items, armor, and other items themselves.
Additionally, there is a special trading system that allows players to own a shop in the game world, where they can offer the crafted items for purchase to other players.
Will Justice Online come to the West as well? NetEase has not yet announced a West release or an open beta for all regions. However, the company already has experience with releases in Western regions through the publisher My.com and the MMORPG Revelation Online. The Playground is back! Hardly any mode has been awaited in Fortnite longer and more eagerly than the Playground. But as soon as the Playground mode was available, it was taken offline again. Various server issues were probably to blame. But Epic was hard at work and recently managed to get the Playground mode up and running again.
So how does the Playground work now? Here you will find everything about the new mode.
A whole island just for you!
Team of four: The big difference between the Playground and a regular Fortnite match: There can only be a maximum of a 4-person team. So you can only go solo or with up to three friends to the Playground. There you can freely let loose and build and shoot to your heart’s content.
Friendly Fire and Respawn: Only the people from your team are on the Playground, but that doesn’t stop you from taking each other out. Friendly fire is possible and allowed. However, those who die respawn back in the game immediately. This makes the mode ideal for testing different weapons, especially sniper rifles with their heavy bullet drop.
Warning! If you die in the storm, you cannot respawn!
Build until the end!
There are plenty of resources: The Playground is filled with resources, and all chests in one location are guaranteed to spawn. Additionally, there are 100 Loot Llamas scattered around the map that will shower you with more resources. If you want to mine resources regularly, you will receive ten times the amount each time!
Practice building: All these resources are primarily meant for you to practice building without anyone constantly shooting you in the head. The Playground is therefore ideal for newcomers or players who can shoot well but haven’t yet had the patience to deal with the building mode.
A paradise for creators! And then there are players who can do everything but simply enjoy building totally crazy structures. All these fans should have a lot of fun with the Playground and try out unusual creations.
The end in the storm!
When does the Playground end? Since you can’t kill each other permanently, a Playground doesn’t end like a regular round with a winner. Instead, it concludes after one hour. Starting from the 55th minute, the storm begins and contracts more and more over the next five minutes until it kills all players. Then the round is over.
Can you complete challenges in the Playground? Since the Playground offers plenty of resources and gives you unhindered access to all weapons and locations, it would be ideal for easily completing the weekly challenges. However, the developers have considered this and disabled all challenges in the Playground. So you cannot complete any challenges here.
How long will the Playground last? Epic originally announced the Playground as a limited game mode. Therefore, it will eventually disappear again. However, we assume that it might stay in the game until the end of Season 4 on July 12, 2018. Epic will revise the Playground based on feedback and bring it back at a later time. Possibly even permanently, which many players are demanding.
Fallout 76 might offer crossplay. Bethesda would be open to the feature, in fact, they desired it. But they decided against it, which according to Todd Howard is due to Sony. However, players are no longer surprised by this. They are more bothered by something else.
Fallout 76 without crossplay. The online game will be released on November 14 for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. While more and more games nowadays offer crossplay between different systems and more players are demanding such a feature, Fallout 76 will not support crossplay. And this is despite Bethesda’s wish for the feature.
Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like. According to Bethesda’s Todd Howard, the reason Fallout 76 will not support crossplay is likely due to Sony, which he claims is not as helpful in this regard as everyone would like. This is also being felt by fans of the online shooter Fortnite at the moment. Here too, Sony is refusing crossplay with other systems. Howard also explained that the trend is moving more towards cross-platform gaming. Therefore, he is even more disappointed that it is not working out for Fallout 76.
What about crossplay between PC and Xbox One? Curiously, there will be no crossplay at all, not even between PC and Xbox One. This would actually be easier to implement. There is no explanation for this. Todd Howard only explains that there is a kind of “blockade” from Sony. Therefore, we will not even see crossplay between PC and Xbox One.
Players already assume this with Sony, but why not with the other platforms?
Many players are disappointed, wondering more about Xbox One and PC: The refusal of crossplay for Fallout 76 disappoints many fans. They especially do not understand why Bethesda does not at least allow interaction between PC and Xbox One players.
Players are no longer surprised by Sony: That Sony is blocking crossplay has become accustomed to. While it is continually disappointing, it is still incomprehensible why the other systems cannot at least play together. There is a lot of discussion about this on Reddit.
But there are also other voices: Some players are glad that there is no crossplay. Because players fear that the PC version will quickly be flooded with mods and cheats that Xbox One players would suffer from. Additionally, PC players often have advantages over console players due to the more precise control with mouse and keyboard. In a game with open PvP, this can lead to unfair situations.
So we will sadly have to do without crossplay for Fallout 76. But at least for the upcoming mobile game The Elder Scrolls: Blades, Bethesda wants to allow players from as many systems as possible to play together – let’s see if Sony will block this again.
