A crazy player has measured Kalimdor in World of Warcraft. For this, he used feasts and consumed almost 100,000 fish!
Just before the release of a new expansion Battle for Azeroth, many players of World of Warcraft take the time to face rather strange challenges. The Reddit user kwelts has apparently posed an existential question about the world: How long is the continent of Kalimdor when measured in feasts?
Distance from Wintergrasp to Uldum: The player kwelts measured and came to the conclusion: Kalimdor is exactly 16,510 feasts long. He started his measurement in Wintergrasp and then walked through the areas until he ultimately arrived in Uldum. After each step, he placed a new feast, resulting in an absurdly long line. We will show a few screenshots of this in this article.
Gigantic fish costs. To be able to deploy so many feasts, a lot of resources must be used. Each feast requires six fish of different kinds. So more than 99,000 fish were used for the whole action. An old orc must have fished for a long time.
What are feasts? Feasts are buffs in World of Warcraft that are often referred to as “buff food.” Most of these items are simply consumed, but the special feasts are placed by a player in the game world so that multiple characters can partake. Since the feasts last for several minutes, they are excellent for cluttering the game landscape – or for measuring distance.
More than one attempt. Kwelts admits that he needed more than one attempt and paused in between. This makes sense, as the mass of more than 16,000 feasts or the necessary resources cannot fit into a single inventory.

Our author Schuhmann was able to play the beta of Monster Hunter World on PC and is mildly excited in the playtest of the Steam version: This is something different. Beginners should not be afraid to get started. It is as complex as everyone says, but it’s manageable.
Technical Problems: I was able to play the beta version of Monster Hunter World over the past few days. At first, I was a bit skeptical. My computer is about 2 years old, I have a GTX 980 graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, and a pretty decent CPU.
But now a patch has arrived. Now Monster Hunter World runs stably at medium settings with about 45 FPS at a resolution of 2560×1440. At the highest graphic setting, my FPS dropped to 30. I have not had any more crashes since the 138 MB patch.
I am sure there’s still a lot to adjust, but for me it was fine. I’m not that much of an FPS hawk anyway. I know many get a fit over it, but for me, 30 FPS is still “smooth” when they are stable. Ironically, I have a 144hz monitor, but that’s a story for another day.
I played this much: I played for about 6 hours, which includes the first story missions and some optional quests. If you want, you can keep going after monsters you have already slain and kill them again.
With 6 hours, I would say I’m roughly out of the “tutorial,” but still relatively at the beginning.
I haven’t tested this: I haven’t played any group content in the beta. I was only solo. You can team up with up to three friends.
Complex, but easy to get into
Entering as a beginner: I have no experience with the “Monster Hunter” franchise. I know many are familiar with the series from consoles and rave about the legendary complexity of the series. The only thing I have played in that direction was Dauntless.
However, I had no trouble finding my way in the game. But you can tell right from the start what a complex game you are facing:
You have the choice between countless different weapons – I chose the Morph Axe and ignored the rest
In the world, you find countless resources, insects, ores, and flowers. I diligently collected them, but had no idea what I needed them for
And there is a complex crafting system. My “MMORPG” general knowledge was enough to allow me to enjoy the first upgrades. I made a large axe from the body of one of the first monsters I killed. That felt great
What I knew was: regularly drink HP potions and sharpen the weapon – that’s also somehow cool and is part of the rhythm of the fights.
Controls and combat pleasantly simple: Even without prior knowledge, Monster Hunter World was fun for me from the very first minute.
It’s nice how easily and dynamically you move through the world. I slid down slopes, swung on vines, or hooked onto a flying dinosaur, but somehow I always reached my destination safely. There is no fall damage – it invites you to run around a bit more recklessly.
Overall, the controls seem to work well on PC – I had no trouble finding my way around.
From the outside, I often thought: The game looks incredibly complex, but once you’re in, it moves along nicely.
The negatives – what I didn’t like
What I didn’t really like was the story so far. It looks very standard to me. Although that’s not so important in this game. You can skip dialogue passages.
I find the companion in the story quest, the Wild Keeper, looks oddly strange on PC. This is kind of “Uncanny Valley” stuff: she is supposed to look human but it doesn’t. She looks creepy.
The positives, what I liked about Monster Hunter World
The hunt for the monsters is really fun. You follow scouting bugs, a green trail, and chase the beasts
The battles themselves are epic. The fights follow a rhythm. You sense when to pull back and when to pursue the monster. It’s hard to describe, but a unique feeling that I really liked. Especially when you loot the severed tail of such a beast during a battle pause, that’s really cool. And from that, you can make armor – ha.
The Palico, the animal companion, is just awesome. It’s a great idea to have a little buddy who gives you HP potions, distracts the monster, and meows around with some comments. Especially since he calls me “Miauster,” as it should be.
The game also breathes an interesting fantasy atmosphere with the huge weapons, grotesque monsters, and the cat creatures running around.
Monster Hunter World already gives me the feeling of having a lot to offer: In side quests, I can immediately fish or catch mini-monsters. I am sure after 6 hours: That’s a lot of game for every Euro.
The positives clearly outweigh the negatives.
Timing for the PC release could have been better
Unfortunately a bit late: Actually, Monster Hunter World would have been the ideal game for MMORPG fans looking for a change. Although it’s not an MMORPG, it satisfies the “loot, grind, hunt” longing that many MMORPG fans feel.
Not much has happened this year for PC players, except for The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset a few months ago.
However, PC players had to wait a long time for the port. The game has been out on consoles since January 26. The hunting craze has faded for PS4 and Xbox One. This makes PC players feel like they are arriving late to the party.
Additionally, Monster Hunter World now launches almost simultaneously with WoW: Battle for Azeroth. It’s a shame, as it could have been recommended as alternative fodder to some WoW players.
Should you buy Monster Hunter World on PC?
This is my recommendation: I think anyone who is looking for a new game and has time should definitely check out Monster Hunter World. Monster Hunter World has been out on PS4 and Xbox One for months now. You can find out exactly who the game is for and what strengths and weaknesses it has.
I find the PC implementation solid, even though it will likely disappoint those who want really high FPS.
Importantly: There is no need to be afraid of a too difficult entry. Players with RPG experience should find their way around. Although the game is definitely complex, you can start slowly and do not need to know and understand all systems immediately to have fun with Monster Hunter World.

If you’re not extremely eager: If you can wait because you’re feeling inclined to play WoW: Battle for Azeroth right now, then feel free to wait until Monster Hunter World goes on sale on Steam. PC players have already waited a long time for the game, so they can hold off for a few more months.

A new startup with developers from around the world has taken on a new project on an unprecedented scale. Orode Productions aims to redefine the MMO genre with Codename Reality.
The world’s first MMOPEG: Codename Reality is set to become the world’s first MMOPEG.
This is not a typo, as it stands for “massively multiplayer online persistent entity game.” It is hard to translate without sounding strange. It is meant to be an MMO with lasting impacts on everything.
The developers describe Codename Reality as a “realistic medieval/fantasy realm, in which your actions shape the world.” Codename Reality will be a game whose course will be significantly influenced by the players themselves. It is meant to be something that is “different from everything that exists.”
What is an MMOPEG? MMOPEG is a new genre that the developers want to create for Codename Reality. It is meant to represent a contrast to the classic MMO genres like MMORPGs, where there is a fixed storyline and an endgame.
A persistent world exists and develops, according to video game pioneer Richard Bartle, even when no one interacts with it. The direct and indirect interactions of NPCs and players are meant to give the world a shape and history, depending on the decisions that have been made.

Orode Productions is therefore currently relying on the support of backers and participants in their vision.
Features, Kickstarter, and Release
The team aims to raise €500,000 for the project to realize it. They are relying on the help of supporters on Kickstarter. Those who help finance the development will receive titles, mounts, items, or even access to a special race, depending on the level of support.

A few days ago, when the new WoW cinematic “Old Warrior” was released, players of World of Warcraft were excited.
There was not only clear resistance against Sylvanas’ decision to set Teldrassil on fire, but also a popular meme from the community was revived. The troll Zekhan, better known in the community as “Zappy Boi” (or “Zappi Boi” or “Zappy Boy”), is, however, nothing more than a coincidence.
Where does Zappy Boi come from? In the official intro cinematic of “Battle for Azeroth”, a troll shaman can be seen casting a chain lightning and standing out among the other warriors of the Horde.
The community quickly picked up this troll and made him a symbol of the Horde. Memes with titles like “Fight for the Horde, fight for Zappy Boi” were created, but also the “Who would win?” meme, where Greymane faces off against the shaman.
Skepticism and joy in the community. When the cinematic “Old Warrior” was released a few days ago, the player base was instantly skeptical. Did Blizzard just include the troll after he became so popular on Reddit? Was this a clever stroke of genius to first stir up the community with the “Warbringer: Sylvanas” and then calm them down again with the new video featuring “Zappy Boi”?
Blizzard confirms coincidence. In the official forum, community manager Ythisens has now confirmed that the whole hype around Zappy Boi was a pure coincidence. The “Old Warrior” cinematic was already finished long before players even had the chance to see the intro to Battle for Azeroth. “We had no way to predict this. Just luck then? If you want to call it that.”
In FIFA 19 there is a new fun mode where many rules are set aside. This is “No Rules” in the new Kick-off.

The lifted offside rule took some getting used to, and I kept forgetting it, as it’s become second nature not to pass to an offside teammate.
However, despite these “No Rules”, there is no unpleasant chaos on the field. Primarily, tackling happens much more frequently than usual, but you can still see that football is being played.
This new mode in FIFA 19 is definitely fun. I can well imagine playing this more often with friends on the couch. And more often saying: “Look how beautifully your player is flying!” Because the collisions look really great in FIFA 19.
However, “serious” playing is not possible. No Rules is not suitable for determining the better FIFA player. It’s a fun mode that brings a fresh wind into virtual football.

Announced for a long time: It has been known for a long time that Pokémon GO will introduce PvP battles. This has been on a to-do list alongside the trading feature, at least since 2017. There have been repeated indications from Niantic, that such a PvP feature is on the way and is seen as a part of the future of Pokémon GO.
The trading feature came out this summer 2018 – the PvP doesn’t seem far away.
However, how exactly such “one-on-one” battles will work in Pokémon GO is still not known.
Something is missing from the War of Thorns in World of Warcraft – it would have been more impressive if the burning of Teldrassil had been a surprise.
The War of Thorns has come to an end and forever changed the face of World of Warcraft. However, the big reveal did not come, as long before the pre-event, players knew that in the end, Teldrassil would be in flames. I believe that Blizzard ruined a very important, dramatic point with this. Ignorance ahead of time would have been beneficial.
Theories instead of shock: Because Blizzard announced the burning of the World Tree at BlizzCon, the War of Thorns lacked a bit of spice. It would have been much more exciting and dramatic to find out during the event that Teldrassil would be in flames.
But since this was already known in advance, it was more about the question of how exactly the tree burns down. When the big surprise failed to materialize and the “most obvious of all solutions” actually occurred, the disappointment was great.
Ignorance would have had a stronger effect. The entire event would have been much more dramatic and impressive if one did not already know about the end. Horde players would have fought eagerly at the Dark Shore, and Alliance players would have defended feverishly because the outcome would have been uncertain. This was not the case, which is why the whole war seemed a bit “in vain” – both sides knew what was at stake in the end, and that every defense was useless and was only meant to usher in Battle for Azeroth.
Datamining as the culprit? In the fast-paced age of the internet, with massive access to information and dataminers tearing apart every patch long before release, it is quite difficult to withhold information. Or is it?
In this case, I’m convinced that it wouldn’t have been so difficult. Because it would have only required a few encryptions in the game – the final cinematic, the “skybox” of the burning Teldrassil, and the one quest that Alliance players experience on the burning tree. Blizzard has already proven that they can obscure certain elements beyond recognition – for “Warbringer: Sylvanas” was in the game data since Patch 8.0 but was not extracted.

In retrospect, I wish I had not known about the downfall of Darnassus. The quest line would have had a much stronger impact if the fire had only been visible at the last moment.
In the future, I hope that Blizzard will conceal more big twists again and not reveal them in advance – even if it makes BlizzCon somewhat less exciting. Thus, the downfall of the Night Elves became somewhat less thrilling and significantly less dramatic. It lacked the shock of the unexpected; instead, a rather whiny “Why did it have to be Sylvanas?” came to the fore.
