Electronic Arts had been developing a major “Star Wars” game for a long time, initially in California, then in Vancouver. It was supposed to be an action-adventure like Uncharted in the world of Star Wars – later an open-world game. But that now seems to be over.
Here’s the game in question: The game was codenamed “Project Ragtag.” It was originally developed for EA by Visceral Games in California. At that time, Amy Hennig, the creative head of Uncharted, was behind it.
The EA “Star Wars” game was also initially intended to be a kind of “Uncharted” in the Star Wars universe.
What went wrong with “Uncharted-Star-Wars”: However, reports suggest that the studio got hopelessly tangled up with the Star Wars game.
There was a significant insider report (via Kotaku) detailing how the studio was overworked. Allegedly, they spent an insane amount of time on a tiny clip of the protagonist stepping out of a door.
For the efficiency-focused people at EA, it was a nightmare. Moreover, they were reportedly not particularly excited about “Ragtag”. After all, it was a single-player game.
The game had been in jeopardy for a long time.
Electronic Arts ultimately closed Visceral Games, the company behind Dead Space. The studio simply wasn’t profitable because costs in California are so high and little came out of the studio. Visceral Games was known for its “Dead Space” series.
Ultimately, EA Vancouver took over “Project Ragtag”, having previously worked on the game.
As Kotaku reports, they rebooted the entire Star Wars game, wanting to keep the assets and make it into an “open world” game.
But that too seems to be dead now.
EA wants “earlier” Star Wars games
This is what the game was supposed to become: As Kotaku learned from anonymous sources, the new version of the “Star Wars” project was called “Orca.”
Players took on the role of a rogue or bounty hunter. They explored planets and collaborated with factions.
However, the release date was apparently too late for EA, as the game was still in an early stage of development. Therefore, EA has now closed the project and wants to focus on games that will be released much earlier. EA set a target for the end of 2020.
According to Kotaku, the end of the project this time did not cost any jobs.
With the return of the exotic hand cannon “The Last Word,” it becomes evident once again: Players are forced into the Crucible in Destiny 2 whether they like it or not. Many Guardians do not like this at all.
What’s the problem with the quest for “The Last Word”? Anyone who wants to own the new exotic hand cannon “The Last Word” must necessarily enter the Crucible. So if you are not PvP-oriented but want to complete your collection, you’re simply out of luck.
Throughout the history of Destiny, there have been quests that forced Guardians to engage in activities that were not exactly in their wheelhouse. Pure PvE players have hated them. The reasons for this are manifold.
These three types of players exist in Destiny 2: Not every Guardian enjoys all the content Destiny 2 has to offer. Fundamentally, three player types can be defined:
Pure PvE players love fighting against AI-controlled aliens, have completed all raids, and only set foot in the Crucible when absolutely necessary.
Mixed players enjoy any content Destiny 2 has to offer, whether PvE or PvP.
Pure PvP players only engage in PvE content to obtain the right tools to wipe out other Guardians in the Crucible. The Crucible is their realm and is only reluctantly left.
Especially the group of pure PvE players is not thrilled about having to go into the Crucible for exotic weapons, and even mixed players have to push themselves at times. Bungie has faced criticism for this frequently. Nevertheless, Guardians are regularly sent into the Crucible.
Players could not avoid the Crucible in these quests either: The classic example of an extremely difficult Crucible quest is still the Thorn bounty from Destiny 1. Here, Guardians had to achieve kills with Void weapons in the Crucible, and progress was reduced with their own deaths.
The terror of many Guardians: The Thorn quest
The quest was considered very difficult back then, as there were hardly any primary weapons with the Void element, aside from the auto rifle from the Glass Chamber and the hand cannon from the Crota raid.
What many players may have forgotten: Those starting fresh with Destiny 2 must complete milestones that also require them to play two matches in the competitive playlist of the Crucible. However, this rarely has a positive impact on their team, especially since they are usually under-equipped and, quite frankly, inexperienced.
There was particularly a lot of criticism regarding the Pikass. Here, Guardians had to achieve 25 precision kills with a hand cannon. A task that still brings tears to the eyes of some Guardians today. Having to go into the Crucible for a weapon, which is clearly tied to a story questline, was inexplicable to many.
Why does Bungie continuously send players into the Crucible? Despite the unending criticism, Bungie remains steadfast in this practice, as the quest for the last word once again proves. The reasons for this may seem understandable at first glance:
Bungie wants to show players the full range of what Destiny 2 has to offer. This also includes the Crucible.
Weapons like The Last Word and the Pikass are extremely powerful against other Guardians, making the requirements at least somewhat more understandable.
Guardians who have yet to venture into the Crucible might be made curious by the quest steps.
However, these underlying considerations do not change the fact that the Crucible is a place many players never want to enter. The matchmaking is too inconsistent, the experience too frustrating when completely overwhelmed.
At its core, Destiny and Destiny 2 are clearly focused on the PvE content, the Crucible is at best “ancillary.” Guardians should not be forced to endure frustrating experiences, so the criticism goes.
How could Bungie circumvent the dilemma? The fundamental approach of incorporating the Crucible into exotic quests may be understandable. However, an alternative should be introduced for pure PvE players.
Bungie could implement a mechanic that allows a player to choose whether to achieve specific quest objectives in PvE or PvP. Those looking to test their luck in combat against other Guardians could be rewarded with faster progress.
What do you think? Should Bungie rethink their practice of luring players into the Crucible?
The hopes were rewarded. First players confirm the shiny form of the Pokémon. The shiny wish of the players has been fulfilled.
That’s why players hoped for Shiny Groudon
That’s why hopes were high: That Shiny Groudon would come into the game along with the event was not far-fetched. A few months ago, Niantic implemented the shiny form of Kyogre in raids.
So it was obvious that Shiny Groudon would come into the game and this speculation has now been confirmed.
This is what Shiny Groudon looks like: The shiny form of the legendary Pokémon is yellow-green and is easily recognizable by the players.
How often is Shiny Groudon? The analysts from TheSilphRoad found out some time ago during a test that the chance of getting a shiny Pokémon from raids is about 1:19. So in every 19th raid, a shiny is supposed to be waiting for you, at least in theory.
Note this about Shinys: If you encounter a legendary shiny in the raids, then use the nanab berry. Shiny Groudon and Shiny Kyogre have a 100% catch chance.
Soon there will be suitable loot in World of Warcraft and thus less frustration.
Yesterday we revealed what will change in Season 2 of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. The item levels of many rewards are increasing and numerous contents will become harder to reflect that. Now, however, the Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has revealed another change that may please many players.
Appropriate rewards from emissary quests: Starting with Season 2 (January 23, 2019), the loot obtained from emissary quests and faction assaults will be adjusted. The loot obtained will now consistently be an item intended for the currently selected loot specialization.
Previously, it was possible for players to receive items from loot boxes of emissary quests or upon completing a faction assault that were not intended for their current specialization. For instance, warriors or paladins could receive shields even though they did not want a tank reward.
Normal world quests are not affected: This change does not apply to “normal” world quests. These will still grant a fixed reward, which can also be for non-selected specializations. This is intended to prevent developers from making players switch through all specializations to see which world quests provide the best loot for which specialization. That would not be enjoyable gameplay.
Additionally, players might still hope to receive items from world quests that they are still missing for a specific specialization.
The changes will take effect next week on January 23, 2019, coinciding with the opening of the new raid “Siege of Dazar’Alor”.
In EVE Online, an incredibly elaborate plan led to the destruction of “Fort Knocks”. This was the first Keepstar in the history of New Eden. Players worked for almost a year on this plan to crack the impregnable fortress.
What is Fort Knocks? “Fort Knocks” is the 1st Keepstar of EVE Online. Keepstars are massive death stars and the largest structures in the universe of the SF MMORPG.
“Fort Knocks” was located in a wormhole system in sector J115405, known as “Rage”. Home to the corporation “Hard Knocks,” this wormhole sector has been heavily industrialized over the years.
Wormhole systems have several peculiarities in EVE Online. It’s complicated to enter them, but they offer many resources.
Through absolute control over this sector, “Hard Knocks” was able to quickly gather the resources for the Keepstar in 2016 and build it as the first in the history of the MMORPG.
There, in their wormhole, the corporation felt secure due to the special location and years of peace – too secure.

That is why “Fort Knocks” was considered indestructible: For years, it was deemed practically impossible to attack a wormhole system from the outside.
This is so complicated because one must find a suitable wormhole to reach a system like “Rage”. These wormholes shift and are unstable. Once a certain mass has passed through, the wormhole collapses.
Therefore, it is only possible to occasionally sneak small ships through such a hole.
However, small ships are not suitable for besieging a Keepstar.
Invasion fleets can only consist of “small ships” and must act quickly. Because defenders can simply hunt heavy ships through wormholes to collapse them.
Seemingly an unsolvable dilemma.
Thus, the invaders devised a plan for 11 months to reach “Rage” and destroy Fort Knocks.
This is how the Keepstar fell: Since December 2017, players from the corporation “The Initiative” began to consider how to crack “Fort Knocks”. They formulated a plan.
In recent months, more and more small ships sneaked unnoticed through the wormholes into Rage.
These fully loaded, unarmed freighters had material loaded to form an invasion fleet. They waited logged out in “Rage” to initiate the attack.
On December 8, the signal to attack was given. All 550 members of “The Initiative” and allied troops from “Imperium” and “Snuffed Out” were called.
Through a sophisticated system of wormholes, they brought their troops in small attack ships to Rage. There, they disabled the starbases and established new facilities of their own.
Then the freighters logged in, which had been parked there for months, and docked at the space stations.
Now the pilots exchanged their small attack ships for the big brutes.

Despite Hard Knocks and their allies putting up fierce resistance, they stood no chance against the vastly superior numbers of invasion forces and eventually focused on damage control and evacuated
Ultimately, “Rage,” the first Keepstar fell and “The Initiative” triumphed.
This is the impact of the coup: The site Kotaku describes this course of the attack and explains that the destruction of “Fort Knocks” has affected all of EVE Online. The “wormhole residents” would now rethink their situation and feel insecure.
Additionally, numerous heavily loaded freighters were reported in December. Apparently, other aggressors are also planning to replicate “The Initiative”‘s plan.
In Fortnite: Battle Royale, according to a leak, a sword is supposed to come back into the game. However, it is not expected to be a remake of the controversial Infinity Blade.
What is the deal with the sword? In the data from Patch 7.20 of Fortnite, there are hints of a sword. However, it won’t be a remake of the Supersword Infinity Blade. Rather, it is said to be a “Medieval Sword”.
Are melee weapons coming into the game?
What could the sword entail? Since the sword sounds more like an ordinary weapon, fans suspect that it will be exactly that: a melee weapon that you find according to the regular loot rules in the game.
So far, battles in Fortnite have mainly revolved around firearms. The pickaxe as a melee attack was only used when nothing useful was found at the start of the game.
Nonetheless, it would be great for the game to have special melee weapons. Epic just needs to find a value for these weapons without making them too good. Super weapons like the Infinity Blade were clearly rejected by the community.
However, a sword that offers limited advantages would certainly enrich the meta. Additionally, melee weapons would logically expand the arsenal. After all, Epic has covered all sensible versions of firearms with various shotguns, assault rifles, and even sniper revolvers. However, there is still much room for innovation with melee weapons.
What could be done with melee weapons: On the Forbes site, the author speculates about various types of weapons. For example, a samurai sword could allow for many quick attacks and thrusts as a special skill. A heavy battle axe, on the other hand, would be good for smashing buildings.
What do you think of the idea of melee weapons in a shooter like Fortnite? A good idea or the beginning of the end?
Perhaps the sword is also part of the new event that may come into the game.
In December 2018, a closed alpha for the PC version of The Division 2 took place. After that, there was quite a bit of positive feedback. However, Ubisoft has deleted much of it. Nevertheless, some details have come to light.
When exactly did the alpha take place? The four-day test alpha of The Division 2 ran from December 15 to 18 on PC. A limited number of players were able to test an early version of the shared-world shooter.
What could be tested? There are no exact details available, as Ubisoft keeps the content of the alpha strictly confidential. Players were also under a non-disclosure agreement or NDA. Thus, testers were not allowed to publish such details.
Ubisoft deletes many leaks, yet reports emerge
Despite NDA: Many fans who participated in the alpha could not resist the temptation and still published details from the alpha that were meant to remain hidden. This included gameplay material.
Ubisoft made significant efforts to delete as much as possible. However, they were not successful everywhere. Entire reports can still be found on Reddit. This includes the detailed post by u/keenerwashere.
This is what the player from the alpha reports: Initially, keenerwashere was quite positive about the alpha. He himself claimed to have played it for several hours.
Note: The content mentioned by the player is part of the alpha. Until the game is released, things like numbers or certain designations may still change. One must also consider that real information may have been mixed with “false” information to avoid violating the NDA.
Storage: In the alpha version, the standard storage without upgrades had 140 slots. That is only 10 less than the 150 slots from a fully upgraded storage from The Division 1. The storage could apparently be expanded to up to 230 slots.
Loadouts: This time, loadouts are available from the beginning. Up to six equipment sets can be saved.
Dark Zone: Apparently, there are three Dark Zones, one each in the North, South, and East. In the alpha, the East DZ was accessible. This underscores current rumors about allegedly multiple Dark Zones in The Division 2.
Factions: In addition to the already known True Sons, there are apparently three other hostile factions. One is said to resemble the Cleaners from part 1, another operates with shields and crossbows. The fourth faction is likely involved with poison gas.
Performance: There seems to be room for improvement. However, this is not unusual for an alpha, as the game is still being optimized. You can read about the system requirements that The Division 2 demands here.
In the alpha, according to keenerwashere, players could explore three districts and 1 Dark Zone district. In the final game, there should be 13 regular and three Dark Zone districts.
So far a great improvement compared to Division 1. […] I’ve just scratched the surface, and it’s huge.
You can read the complete report from the player in the subreddit for The Division. Other players are also remaining optimistic and expressing themselves positively on Twitter.
This is what Henrik / h5000 writes: “I can’t say much about the alpha of The Division 2 because of the NDA. But what I will say is that I’m really looking forward to the game. Many things that bothered me about The Division 1 have been addressed and improved. Sure, there were a few bugs, but I can imagine that these will be fixed by launch.”
Most testers seem to have had similar experiences.
This should suffice for now until hopefully next week we receive more information.
This is an AI-powered translation. Some inaccuracies might exist.
In recent days, more gameplay videos of the MMO shooter Anthem have been unveiled. These have heavily focused on the Javelins and their abilities. Fans are now wondering what role weapons will play in Anthem. We will learn more soon.
Weapon stream planned: Next week Thursday, January 17, the developers of Anthem want to host a new stream. This stream will primarily revolve around weapons.
In these special streams from BioWare, gameplay and features are usually showcased. At the end, the developers answer selected questions from fans.
New Javelin gameplay causes some confusion
This confuses some fans: Recently released gameplay footage showed the Javelins in action. These are the classes of Anthem in the form of combat suits. Some noticed that the Javelins mostly attacked enemies with their individual skills. Gunplay was hardly seen. This can be observed in this Storm gameplay video:
Fans are reminded of Diablo: In Anthem, the abilities used by the Javelins largely appear extravagant. There are large explosions or impressive elemental storms. This would be typical of the “hack and slay” genre, to which Diablo or Path of Exile belong.
Progwale: “It looks kind of like a Diablo hack-and-slay from that perspective. Somehow unattractive.”
Andy Peter: “Am I mistaken or are firearms playing a relatively minor role? In many videos, the Javelins are seen using rockets, fire rushes, or melee weapons, but classic weapons are rarely used.”
It is understandable that some are questioning what role weapons will play in Anthem. After all, there is still a third-person shooter element – likely similar to Mass Effect.
Next week, we will learn more about the role of weapons in Anthem. At MeinMMO, we will of course follow the stream and keep you updated.
What would you like to know about the weapons in Anthem next week?
What we already know is that Anthem will have random rolls for weapons and equipment. However, these work differently here than in Destiny:
We interviewed Rich Lambert, the Creative Director of The Elder Scrolls Online, about the new expansion and the DLCs for 2019.
2019 will be a special year for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. For the first time, the developers are trying out an overarching storyline, bringing in an unprecedented area and garnishing everything with a new, controversial class.
Rich Lambert, the Creative Director of ESO.
For all these topics and a few more, we were able to get Rich Lambert, the Creative Director at Zenimax, for an interview.
Rich: It’s not a Mage or Dragonknight with undead. The Necromancer is its own class with unique gameplay mechanics. It will have pets. We thought about that during the concept phase.
They will not be the permanent pets of other classes. Rather, they will be “Fire and Forget” minions that you summon to do something for a while. For example, you summon skeleton mages, who then nuke your opponents or a “Bomber” that rushes toward enemies and explodes, or even an undead healer that heals for a short time and then disappears.
This fits well with the lore of Necromancers. Necromancy is not perfect; it does not create permanent beings. And it fits wonderfully with the idea that players have of a Necromancer: “I stand above you, these are my servants, they do everything for me and I don’t care about them!”
However, they also have other abilities; they can fill all three roles in the game. They can tank, heal, and deal damage; they can do all of that. There is a skill line for each role.
Players will certainly be very excited about the new class because it feels different. Many effects from the Necromancer go over corpses that he uses.
MeinMMO: Does the Necromancer explicitly need corpses, i.e., previously defeated enemies, or is that just a visual effect?
Rich: They can use existing corpses or create them with a skill. You can still use abilities when there are no corpses. But your skills will be stronger when there are corpses available.
MeinMMO: So, one must play tactically smart and use corpses wisely to achieve maximum effect?
Rich: Yes, exactly.
MeinMMO: Again about the lore: Necromancers have been the “bad guys” in the game so far, and necromancy is, or will be, forbidden in the Elder Scrolls series. How does it fit together that a Necromancer is now a playable hero? Do you play as a good character or an antihero?
Rich: We leave that up to the players and how they roleplay it. There are already good Necromancers in the base game. And we are currently planning something special: NPC reactions in the world to your character. So, if you summon undead in the city as a Necromancer, the residents will panic and scream, “Help, a Necromancer!” And then the guards will come and arrest you.
MeinMMO: Really?
Rich: Yes, exactly! We want it to feel real and authentic. That the new class is well and credibly integrated into the world. Necromancy is, after all, forbidden. That’s precisely why the Mages Guild was founded because necromancy became a problem issue. They wanted to stop and suppress this practice.
MeinMMO: Many players love new classes but are not keen on leveling a new twink for ages. Is there possibly going to be a class change token for existing heroes?
Rich: We have something in the works, but I can’t say anything about it yet. But we are working on something, and we understand that players want something in that direction.
Dragons and Story
MeinMMO: Okay, the next thing that many players are concerned about is the dragons. What’s it all about? Is it a dragon like in “the Season of the Dragon”?
Rich: There will be a “Limited Outbreak of Dragons”. Dragons are definitely enemies.
MeinMMO: So fewer dragons than in Skyrim?
Rich: The big difference from Skyrim is: There is no Dovahkiin in this era. Your heroes are not Dragonborn; they have no shouts. So you can’t defeat them so easily. Dragons are powerful, “badass” creatures that are not easy to deal with.
MeinMMO: So dragons don’t just spawn randomly on the map; they are bosses?
Rich: Yes, they are definitely bosses. And you will need friends and help when you take them on. Dragons will also appear in dungeons and in the story as enemies. In story mode, NPCs will help you fight against the dragons.
MeinMMO: What else can you tell us about the setting and the story?
Rich: The storyline spans a year. It’s about the Imperials invading Elsweyr and the Khajiit having to deal with it. Your heroes will work together with them.
MeinMMO: We help the Khajiit?
Rich: Yes, you are the champions of the Khajiit.
MeinMMO: Are the Khajiit still part of the Dominion?
Rich: Yes, they are. But the Dominion is busy elsewhere. No help is to be expected from there.
MeinMMO: No one cares about the poor Khajiit…
Rich: Not that, but they are tied up with the Three Banners War. There is really a big and interesting story behind it. It’s so extensive that we didn’t want to process it all in a single chapter expansion. Therefore, each of the four updates we are bringing in 2019 will flow into this story.
ESO gets a yearly theme
MeinMMO: You just mentioned four updates. How will that play out in 2019? Will the big Khajiit chapter be the first DLC?
Rich: No, we will bring the new area in June as the second update. The introductory story will come in the first quarter. It starts the entire storyline arc. It will be a dungeon DLC, and the dungeons there will provide the background for where the “Wrathstone Tablet” [the artifact from the teaser] comes from, which Abnur Tharn intends to use to end the Three Banners War and reunite Tamriel at last. He has always wanted to do that. That was also the reason why he was involved in the events of the main story of ESO.
In the second quarter, the Elsweyr chapter will come, Q3 is again a dungeon DLC with more story, and then we will end the year in Q4 with a story DLC that will have a scope similar to Murkmire.
MeinMMO: Will the Elsweyr chapter be about the same size as Summerset or Morrowind, or smaller?
Rich: It will be the size of Summerset. It will even be a bit bigger than Summerset! It will have tons of quests and a raid for 12 players. A raid for “big boys”. You will fight dragons there. We are listening to player feedback, and they wanted a big raid again, an epic journey through the instance. Each boss will have its own hard mode, not just the last boss.
Elsweyr and the Khajiit
MeinMMO: Will the entire province of Elsweyr be present in the game?
Rich: No, the province is too large for that. We will focus on the middle of the province in Q2. In Q4, more of the province will come. Together with the already known areas of Khenarthis Roost and the Harvesting Fields, there will be a total of four areas related to Elsweyr. The two existing areas from the base game are fringe areas. This time we are going directly into Khajiit territory, and you will see things that have never been seen before.
MeinMMO: I’m wondering if we will see more of the Khajiit? There are numerous subspecies of them…
Rich: 17 different!
MeinMMO: Exactly! Will we see new ones? I’m not asking about all 17, but will there be some that we haven’t had before?
Rich: We will show you things you have never seen before. You will interact with the Alfiq [housecat-sized Khajiit] and the Senche-Raht [massive saber-toothed tigers]. We have some cool stuff planned. However, some of the subspecies of Khajiit are very rare and hardly seen. But it makes sense that we show more of the Khajiit in Elsweyr.
MeinMMO: You previously mentioned that the game world reacts to necromancers. Will there also be reactions if you play a Khajiit in Elsweyr?
Rich: Yes, we will consider that as much as possible.
General Questions
MeinMMO: The new DLCs are packed with additional content. But isn’t that just more of the same? You’re not planning completely new gameplay elements, game modes, and so on?
Rich: We have new features and quality-of-life improvements planned for the year. What we will bring early on is the new zone guide and a revamped guild trading UI. The zone guide is something really new.
It is designed to help you navigate the areas better. You can easily get distracted by side quests in our game. With the zone guide, you can then instantly find your way back to the story quest. But we have more improvements planned, including the PvP in Cyrodiil.

In the real world, one can be far away from friends and family. But games like Red Dead Redemption 2 bring people back together, even if only virtually. A story of two brothers is now moving the community of Red Dead Online.
This story moves players: On Reddit, player WilhelmRyan expresses his gratitude to Rockstar. Thanks to the developers, he was able to capture a beautiful moment with his brother in a screenshot.
He shared the screenshot with the community and wrote: “Fishing with my brother 3,000 miles away. Thanks, Rockstar.”
The story behind it: “I want to take the time to appreciate the fact that we live in a time where it is possible to fish next to your best friend – even if he lives on the other side of the country,” writes WilhelmRyan_.
Ryan explains how great he finds it that one can connect through a video game.
He doesn’t understand the people who complain that games don’t look good enough. Or that every new game is bad. He says one should just take a step back to appreciate what one has.
How often do the brothers play together? Ryan and his brother try to carve out about an hour every day to play together during the week.
On weekends, they try to play a lot more. He says that the experience he had with family and friends in online mode has already been worth the money.
How players react: “You are totally right. Thank you, I needed to hear that,” writes Vanpocalypse. Other players also write that they feel connected to their family through video games.
“I really like this. My brother and I play a lot together, that hits home. Enjoy it,” writes JKarc.
Player GnarlyNerd writes, “Yeah man. I have a brother who lives one state over and one in Germany. All three of us get together on the weekends to hunt and fish together.”
Do you also play together with friends or family members who live far away?
In Red Dead Redemption 2, there are also beautiful, sad stories:
The online shooter Fortnite apparently plans a major event around the Ice King and the Ice Storm. 13 challenges have now been discovered in the database. It seems like winter is near for Fortnite. The event has a “Game of Thrones” touch: Ice zombies are likely to invade.
This is what data miners have found: Today the patch 7.20 went live and data miners have heavily rummaged through the code. They have plundered information indicating that a new event is coming. Players expect these things:
Map changes
new modes
13 challenges for an “Ice Storm” event
and corresponding rewards
These challenges are known: Of the total 13 challenges, 7 are known
Complete the Ice Storm challenges
Deal damage to the Ice Legion
Deal damage to the Ice Legion in a match
Deal damage to the Ice Legion with explosive weapons
Deal damage to the Ice Legion with assault rifles or pistols
Deal damage to the Ice Legion with shotguns or submachine guns
These are the rewards: There are already hints about an “ice wrap” and an ice glider.
The wrap is available after the first challenges; the glider only after completing all 13 challenges of the special ice challenges in Fortnite.
Winter is coming… in Fortnite
That’s why it fits so well: The ice idea fits well with the currently low temperatures.
However, it is noticeable that there are some parallels to the successful series “Game of Thrones” and its 8th season. There, too, “ice zombies” threaten to attack the world. It has already been suspected that Fortnite might be planning a “Game of Thrones” crossover. Dragon eggs have already been discovered – apparently, a sword is also on its way again.
The next season of “Game of Thrones” is set to start in April, but promotions are already in full swing. It seems like winter could also come to Fortnite soon.
When is all this coming? We don’t know yet. But Fortnite has often ended its season with a big bang. Maybe the winter event will start in January and extend over several weeks until the start of season 8.

In GTA 5 Online you can now buy the Tulip Muscle Car. Players are thrilled with its appearance, but the car has difficulties on the road.
What’s new? Every week, the developers of GTA 5 bring new items to the game. This week, a Muscle Car named Tulip has been implemented. In addition to the new car, there are also numerous bonuses that you can snag.
However, the car causes many players difficulties, and numerous fans complained about its handling on Reddit.
As speed increases, the Tulip becomes increasingly difficult to steer. Additionally, the car reacts to every bump in the road and can flip over at the slightest curbs. Furthermore, the car costs a hefty $718,000.
What players say: Many players praise the new car, but only when it comes to its appearance. One user, “schlappie,” writes on Reddit: “I only buy the car for its appearance. Well, maybe also to cruise a bit, but only very slowly.”

The sandbox MMO Black Desert Online continues to enjoy immense popularity even almost three years after its release and is still played in 2019. Is it worth starting for newcomers or for veterans to play again?
What is it about? Black Desert has been playable in the West for almost three years. Since then, it has been regularly expanded with new content. At launch, Black Desert Online had only seven classes, while players on PC can now choose from 16 impressive options.
Is Black Desert Online worth it for new players?
This is what new players can expect: The first thing new players see in Black Desert is the sophisticated character editor. Once you have chosen one of the 16 classes, you can create the characters of your dreams with it. At release in 2016, it was regarded as the best character editor in the genre.
In-game, you can expect beautiful graphics that are unparalleled in the MMO genre, as well as an action-packed combat system that heavily relies on player skill. You can block attacks, dodge them, and use control effects to hinder your opponents from moving. Especially in the endgame, where other players can attack you at any time, a good handling of your own abilities is crucial.
And while PvP is the focus of Black Desert, PvE content, as well as crafting and gathering professions, are also important parts of the MMO. In Black Desert, you can engage in fishing, hunt creatures, or take out waves of monsters in the Savage Rift. Just don’t expect a large PvE MMORPG, because that’s not what Black Desert is. The focus in the endgame is primarily on obtaining better equipment or competing with other players.
The various game offerings in Black Desert may overwhelm new players at first. However, developer Pearl Abyss has already announced that they want to make the game more accessible.
Black Desert is set to release in early March on Xbox One. Since all players start from scratch there, it will be very easy to start.
Is Black Desert Online worth it for returning players?
New content: Black Desert received a whole lot of new areas and quests in 2018. But new classes and features were also added.
The main campaign of Black Desert has been revamped. It now offers three different paths that allow you to experience different adventures. You will have to play through them three times to learn all the details.
Game systems have been revised: But Black Desert was not only expanded with new content. The developers also took a look at the existing mechanics and partly drastically revised them or announced changes for 2019.
The Renown Score is set to be abolished in the near future. Additionally, further quality of life changes are planned. For example, players will be able to see how high the chance is to successfully upgrade an item in the future.
Black Desert Remastered revolutionized the MMO completely. With new graphic effects, the game is expected to look great in the future. The game’s soundtrack was re-recorded by various orchestras around the world.
The new character swapping system allows switching between two characters. Since this comes with a loading screen, you cannot use it spontaneously in a heated duel.
And finally, since mid-2018, you can date certain NPCs. However, relationships are usually of very short duration.
What does the future hold for Black Desert?
Black Desert for console: Players had to wait a long time for a console version of the MMO. It has been announced since 2017. After a beta at the end of 2018, the release of the game has been confirmed for January. From March 4, 2019, players can explore the world of Black Desert on Xbox One.
All players start from scratch. Over time, the console version is expected to catch up to the PC version. There have also been hints about versions for PS4 and Switch. Players on consoles who enjoy sandbox MMOs should definitely try Black Desert Online.
Black Desert on mobile: The mobile version of the MMO has been playable in Asia since 2018. However, we in the West still have to wait a little. Developer Pearl Abyss is reportedly planning a release in the West in the first quarter of 2019. So between January and March.
In terms of scope, the mobile version is no less than the PC version. The graphics are outstanding. Currently, there are even features in the mobile version that do not exist on PC. Players can build their own town there. Mobile players should definitely keep an eye on Black Desert Mobile.
Global version: Currently, developer Pearl Abyss has other companies marketing Black Desert all over the world. For example, Kakao Games handles Black Desert in Europe and America. However, this means that the game in the West often has to wait a long time for content from the East.
In the future, developer Pearl Abyss aims for a global version of the game, where all players receive content at the same time.
What is the mood among players?
Players voice criticism: Players sometimes criticize developer Pearl Abyss and publisher Kakao Games regarding Black Desert. In 2018, the poor PvP balance and issues with bots and hackers were particularly discussed.
Players praise Black Desert: However, especially towards the end of 2018, players were in a more positive mood. For example, the Archer class was released worldwide for all players at the same time.
The rating on Steam has been “mixed” since its release on Steam, with a slight positive bias. The sandbox MMO polarizes. In the reviews, the abundant content that players receive for the entry price of €10 is particularly praised. However, those who want to stay longer need to prepare for additional in-game purchases, such as a bag expansion.
Black Desert has stable player numbers: According to the website SteamDB, slightly more than 15,000 players play the sandbox MMO daily. Thus, Black Desert on Steam has about as many players as the highly successful The Elder Scrolls Online.

In addition to the Steam players, there are also players who start the MMO through the Black Desert client, which is not linked to Steam.
These 15,000 players are not all active. In Black Desert, players are rewarded for keeping their computer running even when they are away or at work. They can assign tasks to their characters that they can carry out in their absence. But ultimately, what matters for the player is that they find a lively MMO with enough fellow players. And yes, this is the case here.

Who wouldn’t want a Torbjörn turret standing in their room? Some Overwatch fans thought the same and simply developed it.
Torbjörn must truly be proud of these four engineers, as they completed Torbjörn’s turret before the Swede could even get to it – after all, Overwatch is set in the future.
In a video just over 3 minutes long, the team from “KONGDOLE” shows what they have been working on in recent months and showcases their ready-to-use turret based on Torbjörn.

Not quite like the original: However, there are a few modifications from the original. The turret must be operated manually with a controller, and automatic targeting is still missing. The firepower also leaves much to be desired. It probably won’t be enough to scare off pesky Reapers, but it should be sufficient to impress little brothers.
Community thought it was a new hero: A look at the comments on YouTube shows that players expected something entirely different from the video. They only saw the name “KONGDOLE” in caps lock and thought it referred to a new hero. Thus, a large portion of the comments consists of phrases like “I thought that’s a new hero…”
This was likely due to the unfortunate title choice of the video, which was titled “Overwatch Presents: KONGDOLE Production’s Hero Story,” sounding to many like a new “hero story” for a fresh hero in Overwatch. These thoughts were fueled by discoveries last week that hinted at a new hero emerging soon. In truth, however, they were “only” real heroes.
What do you think of this Torbjörn turret? A cool idea and would you like to have something like this in your room? Or is it silly to recreate such things in real life?

Recently, the largest community event in Elite Dangerous started. However, this space mission caused numerous pilots to be unable to log into the game for hours upon its launch.
This is what happened: On January 13, the launch of a massive community event was set in Elite Dangerous. Nearly 12,000 pilots, including developers of the game, wanted to embark on the huge space mission Distant Worlds 2.
However, the launch faced initial difficulties, causing thousands of players to be unable to log into the game for hours.
This is how the launch went: To make the launch of the space expedition as smooth as possible given the large number of participants, the departure to Beagle Point, the destination on the way to the journey at the edge of the galaxy, was staggered in several waves.
In total, space explorers were supposed to take off from the starting point in three waves at different times last Sunday. The pilots were divided into regions within a 12-hour time window – starting with Europe, followed by the USA, and lastly Oceania.
This is how the launch caused problems: However, when thousands of pilots from the European and simultaneously largest group initiated the first jump to hyperspace from the starting system, the game servers collapsed.
Overload was the result; for more than two hours, many players were stopped from participating in the expedition. Even many who did not participate in the expedition could not play during this time.
Thus, pilots could not log into the open game (multiplayer). Even in singleplayer, many could not play Elite Dangerous since the game requires a permanent online connection and the login servers were overloaded.
Were problems foreseeable? Numerous fans had anticipated server issues. This is because the previously largest mass event in Elite Dangerous encountered technical problems in 2017 as well – albeit with “only” about 3,000 participants. For many, these problems were therefore predictable.
How did Frontier respond? The developers confirmed the server issues, apologized to the community, and immediately set to work to resolve the problems. Although this took several hours, Frontier could provide stable servers again for the start of the second wave from the USA.
This is how fans reacted: Contrary to some fears, fans took the server crash mostly calmly and even with humor. In Discord servers and forums, there was good mood, and it was joked that only elite players would enjoy crashing the game.
Moreover, hardly anyone had expected that the servers would withstand the initial onslaught of hyperspace jumps.
What is Distant Worlds 2 all about? As part of this event organized by the community, players want to travel together through the Milky Way over the course of 8 months, thereby creating the ultimate MMO experience for space explorers.
The destination on the way is Beagle Point, a nearly legendary space station among explorer pilots at the edge of the galaxy. New waypoints are communicated weekly that can be explored by participants. On weekends, pilots then meet at predefined gathering points and continue their journey from there towards Beagle Point.
Frontier is also participating in the huge community event. On the one hand, some developers are taking part themselves, and on the other hand, there are special missions and community goals that Frontier contributes for the long journey.
Once Beagle Point is reached, the return will be on a different route. On the return journey, they aim to follow the route that the spaceship USS Voyager from Star Trek also flew.
The journey is seen as exciting and dangerous among fans. Numerous parts of space are unexplored along the route. Additionally, Thargoid aliens often ambush players unexpectedly.
The expedition is accompanied by the Fuel Rats and Hull Seals, among others. The Fuel Rats refuel players who run out of fuel in unexplored and hard-to-reach areas of space. The freshly founded Hull Seals are also a network of helpful pilots who can repair damaged ships.
The online RPG Shroud of the Avatar offers a bundle that is quite expensive. For $7,000 or $8,000, there’s a package with all the bells and whistles.
Yes, Shroud of the Avatar (SotA) is still around. The now significantly reduced development team is currently also diligently working on Episode 2, which is planned for the end of the year.
However, the team needs money for development. This is currently being generated through the sale of decoration items and donations from fans. Now a bundle has been offered that is quite something.
Interestingly, all bundles offer the same content, and the prices seem to follow a “first come, first served” principle. So those who act quickly will still get the bundles at a cheaper price.
The bundle includes:
A property deed for a plot that you can place anywhere: It is tax-free for one year if placed outside a player city and you will never have to pay taxes if it is within a city
Title: Lord of the Isle or Lady of the Isle
A unique “Lord of the Isle” house that will be introduced later
An additional house currently available in the store
A keep cellar of your choice, available in the store
A castle wall set available in the store
1,400 crowns
999 bank slots
12 “Prosperity Tools”
2 unique in-game items (to be announced)
Early access to Episode 2
Episode 1 box with a signed map from the team
One hour of one-on-one conversation with the technical director Chris Spears via video conference
A real silver ring, personally crafted by Lord British, numbered
An in-game version of the Lord British ring, numbered (including a placeable decoration version)
Tour of the Portalarium offices
Dinner and drinks with Lord British, Darkstarr, and Atos at a yet undisclosed location in Austin, Texas, or New York City
This is how the cash shop is supposed to look better: The developer studio Portalarium is aware that the item shop does not sit well with many MMORPG fans. Therefore, it will be moved from the website into the game. Additionally, there will be adjustments to the prices.
The developers admit that some items were offered at a high price compared to the item shops of other online games.
Similarly, the team is revising the in-game currency COTOs. It will be offered a bit cheaper in the shop, but you will not receive them as frequently as loot in the game anymore.
This is how players are reacting: Shroud of the Avatar is a heavily contested game. There is a small but loyal fanbase that actively participates in financing the game, and there is a group that expresses their disappointment over how the online game has developed and continues to do so.
While critics are currently mocking the very expensive “Lord of the Isle” bundle, even fans are showing some skepticism.
The price seems too high for many, which is why some content has already been adjusted. The developers explain that some fans have explicitly asked for such bundles.
And in the official forum, some players are even inquiring about financing options because they would like the bundle but cannot afford the price all at once.
