Wizards Unite has launched in Germany. But what do the first players say about the AR game and which aspects are not well received?
What is Wizards Unite? This is the latest game from Pokémon GO developer Niantic. Here, you must protect the magical world of Harry Potter from revelation to the Muggle world and free or battle numerous characters from the saga.

On Apple’s iOS: In this app store, the game has significantly fewer ratings. Only 344 players provided a rating here, averaging 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The mobile game is now available in Germany
Comparing this to the ratings of Pokémon GO, slight differences are noticeable. Pokémon GO received only 4.1 stars in the Play Store and even only 3.8 stars in the Apple App Store.
Wizards Unite is faring better at launch than Pokémon GO is now. However, the game is just getting started. There can still be a lot of changes.
What is well received in Wizards Unite

Why is it free? In an interview with VG247, Bungie’s Project Lead Scott Taylor explained why the studio chose the free-to-play route.
After Bungie separated from Activision, they began engaging in discussions with players and the team. They wanted to discover what they could do to realize Bungie’s vision of a global community for Destiny. They aimed to tear down barriers, and Destiny 2 was meant to be the game that helps with that.
Taylor further explains that the team was frustrated that players had to play all previous content of Destiny 2 to be able to purchase the first expansion, Forsaken.
For Forsaken, Guardians had to purchase the previous DLCs
Players can easily download New Light for free on all platforms. If Guardians then show interest in additional content, they can simply purchase it.
It is the way in which players and the industry have evolved that led Bungie to pursue this new path.
What was it like with Forsaken? At the launch of the first expansion to Destiny 2, Forsaken, players were forced to purchase the two previously released DLCs. DLC I Curse of Osiris and DLC II Warmind were mandatory for Forsaken.
Bungie only changed this about a month later. Starting from October 16, the expansion was offered along with the two DLCs. Players who had played the expansion before this date received a bundle of cosmetic items as a thank you.
This player was able to take advantage of the rapidly changing meta in Fortnite to qualify for the Fortnite World Cup. Here’s how he did it.
Which player are we talking about? The French professional player Duong “Kinstaar” Huynh qualified for the Fortnite World Cup 2019 in both solo and duo modes. He plays for the top French team Solary. It was an advantage for him that Fortnite frequently changes the meta.
These meta changes during major tournaments usually cause frustration among professionals.

This is how Kinstaar leveraged the changes to his advantage: Kinstaar played a lot of Fortnite to understand how the changes impact the game. He anticipated patches that would completely overturn the meta.
After each patch that altered the meta, he played a lot of matches. It was important for him to fully understand what a new patch meant for Fortnite. He prepared intensely for the new situations in the game.
“It doesn’t surprise us that Epic adds or removes items and weapons during the tournament. It is frustrating nonetheless,” says Kinstaar. “The updates usually came on Tuesdays or Thursdays, which meant we had less than a week to learn the new meta.”

“That was the moment I understood that I had to seize my chance. Because I practically never use vehicles in the game, and I should give it my all,” says Kinstaar, recalling that he was still missing 8 points for qualification in Week 5.
By Week 6, Epic Games had not resolved the issues with vehicles. In Week 6, he played with his duo partner Coretin “Hunter” Tardif. The two realized that their chance had come to qualify for the finals.
“We’ve been playing this game since the beginning. It’s our playground, especially without vehicles.” So for them, the meta change came at just the right time, Epic was playing into their hands.
Did Kinstaar make it to the finals? The two players finished fourth as a duo in Week 6 of the European qualifiers with 89 points. Thus, they are now in the duo finals of the Fortnite World Championship.
A week later, Kinstaar also reached the finals of the World Championship in solo ranking. He qualified with 59 points. The vehicles were back in the game by then.
The meta is currently almost perfect, says the pro. “The semi-auto sniper and the burst SMG should go into the vault,” he adds.
This is the problem: Despite the chaotic item changes during the tournaments, Kinstaar was able to qualify for the World Cup. It is always challenging for players to adjust to such significant changes during ongoing tournaments.
Suddenly, vehicles that were crucial to their tactics are missing from the game. Or weapons they practiced extensively with are unexpectedly removed. Because Epic felt like it and believes they don’t fit the meta. Kinstaar thinks that Epic could do more to avoid the chaos.
This would be his solution: “They should pay more attention to the community,” says Kinstaar, adding that professional players should be the focus for Epic.

Yesterday, the World Championship qualification for Fortnite concluded. None of the big Twitch stars managed to secure a ticket at the last minute. The World Championship will take place without Ninja, Nickmercs, and Myth. The reason is likely a decision by Epic to lower the age limit to 13.

Changes to EX Raids: Starting tomorrow, June 23, the new form of Deoxys will be available in EX Raids. In return, the defense form will disappear from the special raids.

What does Bungie say? Shortly after the first reports, the studio stated that they would take a closer look at Lord of Wolves. Now, Destiny Franchise Director Luke Smith has elaborated on this matter in a stream, answering some fan questions about this exotic weapon.
Bungie knows that the weapon is currently out of control. However, instead of deactivating it, they will take the same approach as they did with the Prometheus Lens.
This way, they let fans “enjoy” the weapon in its currently overpowered state a bit longer and do not deactivate it as they did with the Rat King. Soon, Lord of Wolves will receive a rework and will be nerfed. Smith did not specify an exact date (other than “soon”), but he announced at the same time that they have something special planned for this OP weapon.
This is how Bungie will keep the memory of Lord of Wolves alive: For their brief reign of terror in the Crucible, Lord of Wolves will soon be honored.
All Guardians who participated in the currently ongoing 1st Iron Banner of Season 7 will receive a special triumph and a unique emblem. In the new shooter Borderlands 3, MMORPG fans meet an old acquaintance. Paul Sage was Creative Director at The Elder Scrolls Online at the release. Now he says his focus is on coop for Borderlands 3. He wants to play the shooter with his son, and two of his coop ideas have already caused a stir.
It’s about him: Paul Sage was probably the main figure during the turbulent early phase of The Elder Scrolls Online, aside from boss Matt Firor, to whom fans looked up most. The MMORPG went through a tough time during its PC release in 2014.

What Sage says further: According to Sage, Borderlands 3 is very ambitious. There is so much in the game, you travel to different worlds. Just getting all the multiplayer systems into the game was apparently very extensive.
Sage says: “These things [multiplayer systems] often seem small to players, but they introduce larger things and amplify them. All these features often look small, but a lot of energy goes into them.”

Why was the streamer banned? In one of his streams, streamer Nightblue3 encountered the player “Nubrac” in his LoL team. Nubrac played with the character Teemo in the support role. Instead of staying with the player in the marksman role, he left him alone and ran to the mid lane.
This strategy from Nubrac is unusual for games in League of Legends. The player says that this is his new strategy and it would work.
Streamer Nightblue3 saw this as “intentional griefing”. For him, the Teemo player played intentionally in a way that would cause his own team to lose.

Nightblue3 opened a private Riot Games Discord server for members of the League Partner Program. There, he reported the player Nubrac and ensured that he would be excluded from the game for 14 days. He did not report him through the designated reporting tool available to all players but used his contacts at Riot for that.
Beforehand, Nightblue3 wrote in the chat of the mentioned match: “Hey Teemo. Do you want 2 weeks off? I will let my Riot friend know.”
These lines earned the streamer himself a 14-day ban. It likely does not sit well with Riot Games when a partner uses their status for such ban threats.

How did it end for the player? Although Nubrac challenged the ban at Riot, it remains in effect for 14 days. The developers examined his account closely and concluded that the 14-day ban was justified. It was clear that Nubrac was intentionally feeding in the game, giving the opponent kills, and sabotaging the game for his team.

Thousands of viewers regularly follow his Twitch streams. On the platform, he is followed by nearly 2.5 million people, and he has 2.7 million subscribers on YouTube.
In the League of Legends community, opinions about the streamer are divided. While many appreciate his streams, there are also numerous critics who dislike his style.
This is how other players react to the bans
This “drama” between Nightblue3 and Nubrac is causing many discussions in the community.
Many defend Nubrac and say: If this is his tactic, he should not be banned for it. That would be an “off-meta strat.” A strategy that, while unusual, is not punishable.

In Elder Scrolls Online, there is a lot going on right now, but there is still much in store for players in 2019, as a developer reveals in an interview.
Where does the information come from? All this news comes from Rich Lambert. He is the Creative Director of ESO and spoke with the US website Forbes about the future of the MMORPG.
What was said? Lambert gave an outlook on the ongoing year and revealed what to look forward to. He also explained the steps behind these DLCs.
In line with this, Lambert also spoke about these DLCs and revealed the developers’ thoughts behind their creation.
This is what was said about the DLCs: For Lambert and the development team, it was important to create a story that lasts the entire year and spans various DLCs.
Scalebreaker picks up where Elsweyr leaves off, and at the end of the year, Dragonhold completes the story. You will be dealing with dragons until the end of the year.
Regarding the content of the DLCs, Lambert said only: “With the Dungeon DLC “Scalebreaker,” the story will continue directly in the third quarter. It provides more background information on the dragons and the consequences of everything that happens in Elsweyr. And with Dragonhold, we then reach the climax of the entire season of dragons.”
Why is there now the same story across all DLCs? In the past, ESO continuously introduced expansions and innovations. However, they always told their own stories that did not build on one another.

In 2019, this will change. Lambert also gives a glimpse into the future and teases what things could look like around ESO in the coming years:
“I think it makes a lot of sense to use the same format again. We have written many standalone stories in the past. One of the reasons we decided to try the seasonal narrative is that players had trouble figuring out where to go and what to do with all the updates we had in a year. The positive feedback we received this year and the way players have accepted the format shows that it makes a lot of sense to repeat it.”
What does this mean for the future? ESO is currently very successful. The developers see that the success comes mainly from the story surrounding the dragons, which is planned to be maintained throughout the year.
We can probably expect that ESO will focus on seasonal storylines in the coming years and continue to release DLCs like they will in 2019.

In the MMORPG WoW there is excitement about new patch notes for the test server. They are said to filter words in the Chinese client with political sensitivity: It appears to be a case of censorship by the Chinese government against protests in Hong Kong.
What the new patch changes: The new patch on the test server for WoW, which is supposed to arrive next week, adjusts the “curse word filter” for the Chinese language, as a player reports on reddit .
The user posted a list of words that will now receive an “ID” number with the next patch and are considered “curse words.” However, the user does not provide a source for how they obtained the data.
The sensitive part is that the new “censored terms” are not curse words, but political keywords.

and similar.
This is supposed to affect only the Chinese client.
If the terms are flagged in the curse word filter, it is not possible to create guilds or characters with those names. Otherwise, the words are hidden when the filter is active.
It seems that the curse word filter is intended to prevent political protest from reaching World of Warcraft.
This is the problem: On the Reddit forum, people discuss that WoW’s chat filter is used here to censor opinions.
They wonder if Blizzard really approves of this or if they are yielding too much to their Chinese partners at NetEase. Some question whether Blizzard even has a choice.

With your current graphics card, you might soon not be able to play Fortnite anymore. Epic Games has now clearly stated the requirements and will completely exclude these old cards from the game.
Which graphics cards are being dropped? In a statement on the Fortnite website, the team clarifies that they will no longer be able to guarantee support for older model graphics cards. This affects the PC version of Fortnite.
The focus is on older models that are not compatible with DirectX 11.
Is my graphics card sufficient for Fortnite? The models that will no longer be supported can be easily identified.
For Nvidia graphics cards, all desktop models from version GeForce GT 430 support a DirectX version 11.1, so they can play. Models with a lower number cannot.

What can the Pokémon in the breakthrough do? The 4 Pokémon are already well known among players, as they have appeared several times in raids.
For the first time, Kyogre will be available in research breakthroughs
All 4 Pokémon can be shiny. So you might be lucky and encounter a shiny version in the breakthrough.
In terms of usability, Kyogre and Groudon have the upper hand. They are the best Pokémon of Water and Ground types. So if you don’t have the opportunity to challenge them currently in raids, the breakthrough offers a good chance to get them.
Latias and Latios are good Dragon Pokémon, but they look rather weak compared to the Dragon elite. Here, the shiny will be mainly interesting.
Latios will be available for another 2 months
How long will these Pokémon be available? These breakthroughs are valid now for the whole summer. Until the end of August, you will find the 4 Pokémon there. On September 1 at 10 PM, there will be new Pokémon again.
If Niantic stays true to their line, they will only remove Latias and Latios; Kyogre and Groudon could remain a bit longer.

In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite there is an important change just one day after release. This makes it significantly easier for us German players at the launch here.
What has changed? The “Spell Energy,” that is the energy you need for spells, has been improved. The energy now drops more frequently from inns and other actions in the game, making it easier to have magical encounters.
This is important, because without this energy you cannot cast spells on the magical creatures.
What exactly has changed? After just one day, Niantic listened to the players’ wish and increased the drop rate of Spell Energy. Now there are 10 instead of 5 Spell Energy from daily tasks and an increased rate from inns and greenhouses.
Additionally, new players now start with 50 Spell Energy instead of just 25, as was previously the case.

The importance of Spell Energy: This feature is probably the most important feature in the game, because without Spell Energy, there are no magical encounters.
Players of Pokémon GO can compare it to Poké Balls. If you have no balls, you can’t catch Pokémon. If you have no Spell Energy in Wizards Unite, you can’t battle magical beings.
How are players reacting? The prompt change is well received. On the Facebook post from Niantic, there are over 100 mostly positive comments about the change:

What does it mean for German players? That the change comes so early is only good for German fans. After all, we do not have to deal with these problems and we start with more Spell Energy, as especially there had an additional 25 Spell Energy added.
Are there any critical voices? Some players complain that there is still too little Spell Energy. Especially in rural areas, where there are few inns that provide this Spell Energy, it’s hard to get this important resource.
For example, there are calls for brewing potions that can give you energy, or for more ways to obtain Spell Energy.
So Niantic may change something about the feature, as it is essential for the game.
