A cheeky Destiny 2 streamer has challenged his ban for using cheats and got into a dispute with Bungie on Twitter. However, this went horribly wrong, and the studio publicly exposed the cheater.
Cheating in PvP is a hot ongoing topic in Destiny 2 – even in the current Season 14. And anyone who regularly participates in the Trials knows: Bungie’s action MMO definitely has a problem in this area. There are repeatedly nasty cheaters who even cheat live and publicly – often with no consequences.
That Bungie’s intensified anti-cheat measures can indeed take effect and do not stop even for prominent cheaters is demonstrated by the recent example involving the well-known PvP streamer BakenGangsta (108,000 subscribers on YouTube, 4,243 followers on Twitch).
Streamer clashes with Bungie
What actually happened? Recently, Baken publicly complained on Twitter that he had been banned from Destiny 2 for the 2nd time – without any explanation. He called it ridiculous. It cannot be that he gets banned when he sees crazy cheaters playing for months. Someone at Bungie should take a look at the whole matter.
This is how it continued: Bungie actually responded quickly. Shortly thereafter, the community manager dmg04 spoke up and replied: “Bans are not issued without reason. The team has confirmed this measure through anti-cheat detection and investigation multiple times.” Then dmg04 reminded the streamer of Bungie’s guidelines regarding account bans and ban policy.
However, that was apparently still not enough for BakenGangsta. He remained oblivious to any wrongdoing and petulantly demanded a solid justification from Bungie: “I want proof of what I supposedly did that led to the ban. Because right now it’s just bullshit,” the streamer stated.
Bungie exposes the fraudster publicly
This is how Bungie “destroyed” the cheater: As the saying goes? Be careful what you wish for. Perhaps the streamer should have heeded this advice too. Because Bungie did not let his request go unanswered and publicly pulled down Baken’s pants with the following response.
Subsequently, dmg04 stated: “It’s continuing. It just took some time to check everything again with the security team. We found 2 accounts that are in your possession and have used cheat programs while playing Destiny 2. In total, we have now banned 4 accounts (including ban evasion). And that is our last word on this matter.”

In conclusion, dmg04 added that they want to make Destiny 2 the best possible game it can be, and when someone tries to deceive others, sometimes you just have to set things right as a community manager.
What does Baken say about this now? He continues to stick to his version and says: It’s his word against Bungie’s. He never owned 4 accounts, and since this is already the 2nd time he’s been banned, he must apparently have something on his PC that Bungie recognizes as a cheat program. However, he still has no idea what it could be. But he would like to know, so he doesn’t get banned in other games.
However, it looks strongly as if the ban was justified. Because it is quite unlikely that Bungie would repeatedly investigate the matter and then, even upon request, find 4 accounts, even identify a ban evasion, and that this is just unfortunate circumstances or an error – even if you can never exclude that 100%.
