Destiny 2 has been around for many years, and those who know Bungie are aware that chaos and bugs have been constant companions. Therefore, we have picked out the most intense moments of the sandbox that you, as a long-time fan, should still know.
What are these moments? These involve overly powerful metas or bugs that have slipped into Destiny 2. They have already been eradicated by Bungie but have led to some of the most absurd moments in the history of Destiny 2.
They were funny and powerful and could dominate the servers of the loot shooter for a time. Most of you should know them as long-time fans. But if you’re just joining us, sit back and see what the Guardians in Destiny 2 have already experienced.
Telesto and its Bug Streak
When the community talks about Telesto, everyone immediately thinks of one thing: bugs, and plenty of them. This exotic fusion rifle is a force of nature when it comes to breaking the game, and not always to the detriment of the players. The weapon was primarily responsible for bugs like these:
- exploiting mechanics
- destroying bosses in seconds
- crashes
- creating immunity to any damage
- generating countless orbs of light
- and much more!
Telesto is an iconic weapon and firmly anchored in the world of Destiny. Fans have come to love it, even though it mostly just caused problems. But the way it operates just fits perfectly with the twisted world of the Guardians.
Craftening: When Craftsmanship Meets Creativity
Craftening was a topic in itself in Destiny 2, as it allowed players to create absurd weapons with the crafting feature of the Enclave. Automatic rifles firing grenade launcher ammunition, or bows that nock arrows like shotgun shells – truly bizarre combinations.
With them, the sandbox was naturally completely shaken up, including raids. Many players report on Reddit about how they secured a victory against raid bosses thanks to this “trick,” even though they weren’t that good at raids.
Although Bungie is known for immediately patching such disastrous problems, the developers allowed fans to enjoy themselves to the fullest this weekend. For many, it was a memorable moment in their career as Guardians.
6 to 12 Players in Dungeons and Raids
To tackle endgame content, you need a fireteam, and the sizes of the teams are always specified by Bungie. Well, unless there is a bug that can bypass this restriction.
By chance, players discovered a few years ago: If Fireteam 1 wants to join Fireteam 2 and Fireteam 2 is just about to join the activity, both teams spawn in the activity at the same time.
This resulted in fans doubling the number of participants in raids or dungeons . The result? A chaotic and massive pile of Guardians in activities that were completed in no time.
Many Guardians could earn the raid exotic “Divinity” during this phase, as the puzzles and mechanics became no problem due to the high number of allies. Additionally, very few players had any idea about the secret quest, allowing them to simply tag along comfortably.
Definitely a memorable moment in the history of Destiny 2, something that Guardians who participated in it will never forget.
Two Exotics that Turned PvP Upside Down
There were two memorable moments in the PvP of Destiny 2 that will never be forgotten in the Crucible. Bungie even gifted each moment with an emblem to commemorate them. But without two exotics, none of this would have happened: Prometheus Lens and Lord of Wolves.
Prometheus Lens was released in 2017 with the “Curse of Osiris” expansion, but there was a problem… the weapon was far too powerful in PvP. It could pulverize your enemies in seconds, and many noticed that. Now, here comes the second problem: The weapon was even sold by Xur that weekend after being deemed too powerful.
This means: Every player who could afford the rifle bought it. The result was a Crucible that resembled a laser tag arena. Everywhere smelled of burnt Guardians, but at least the chaos was amusing.
The Lord of Wolves, on the other hand, was fortunate, as its effect “Release the Wolves” no longer required a kill to activate. Instead, fans could manually trigger the effect, which was unfavorable in PvP. The weapon could hit enemies from a great distance and was so powerful that it could tear Guardians in their ults to shreds within seconds. Very powerful and, above all, fun.
Menagerie: Who Gets to the Chest Faster!
The Menagerie is something no one will forget quickly. An exciting and diverse mode in the belly of the Leviathan, were it not for the lousy loot for the long time invested to complete the mode.
At that time, many fans complained, but fortunately, an exploit was found to mitigate the problem. Once you equipped your chalice, you could only open the chest once. But there was a way to activate it multiple times, which only worked because Destiny 2 is so complex.
The Menagerie was divided into different instances that had to be reloaded every time you entered – including the showdown with the last boss and the room with the chest. To get the chest to spit out more than it should, you would re-trigger the chalice, leave the room with the chest, wait 1-2 seconds, and then return.
The result was an unopened chest that you could then open again. I personally exploited this, as I wanted to get the very rare ship as well as the swords for the individual classes.
But guess what I still didn’t get despite this trick… that’s right, the ship! Outrageous! But at least we had races in the fireteam to see who could get to the chest the fastest. That was fun.
Bonus: Iconic Moment from Destiny 1
Lastly, I wanted to throw in two moments from Destiny 1 for the real veterans among you.
Not everyone could afford a Gjallarhorn back then to take down Atheon or Crota. But the good news is, you didn’t need to. There was a trick that only crafty Guardians used: instead of fighting, just push them off. Gravity took care of the rest. One of the most absurd moments in the history of the loot shooter.
And the last thing many fans of Destiny 1 will surely remember for a long time is the legendary loot cave: staring into a black hole for hours and taking out enemies while chatting with friends about all sorts of things late into the night.
