In winter, you can also comfortably play from home. Make yourself cozy on the couch and use some incense. This will attract wild Pokémon for 60 minutes that you can catch. If you’re lucky enough to have a PokéStop nearby, you can also set a lure module, which attracts even more monsters.
Incense, Lure Module & Wonder Box
Activate Wonder Box: If you can no longer see the wild spawns, you also have the option to open the Wonder Box. However, you need to connect to the Nintendo Switch or Pokémon Home to activate it. Similar to incense, it lasts for a whole hour.
You will not attract wild monsters, but the mysterious Pokémon Meltan. Its evolution, Melmetal, is a solid attacker and can particularly impress in the Master League (via pvpoke.com). Therefore, this is a great opportunity to catch a strong specimen and collect as many candies as possible.
But beware: While you have activated the Wonder Box, you cannot set any more incense, as both do not work simultaneously!
5. Participate in remote raids
Even if you don’t have a gym in your immediate vicinity, you can easily participate in raids from home. This is due to the remote raid passes introduced as part of the COVID-19 pandemic. Just invite friends from around the world to raids or invite them yourself.

Trading: If you caught numerous monsters in the summer and never had the time to sort them out, you should use the cold season for that. But before you simply send away all unwanted Pokémon, you should trade them with friends. With a little luck, you might get a lucky Pokémon.
Especially during the season of origin, which runs from December 1st to March 1st, trading monsters is especially worthwhile. You will receive an additional candy and a guaranteed XL candy with each trade made.
Tip for sending: Niantic often offers double candies for sending Pokémon. So if you’re not in urgent need of space, it’s also a good idea to sort your monsters by tags. When a corresponding bonus comes up, you only need to send those specimens with that tag.

How to set tags? Setting tags in the game is very simple. Open your Pokémon storage and click on the “Tags” category in the upper left corner. Then you can create a new tag using the plus sign. After that, switch back to your Pokémon.
Finally, press and hold all the monsters you want to assign this tag to for a longer time. This will open a selection window where you can assign the tag. If you now reopen the view of your tag, you can find all assigned specimens under it.
7. More activities indoors
PvP battles: If you’re not so fond of raids, you can try your hand at the GO Battle League and compete against other trainers. You don’t have to leave the house in icy temperatures for this either.
In addition, you will earn valuable stardust, items, and depending on your rank, encounters with special Pokémon, such as Lin-Fu, eF-eM, or Wrestler Pikachu, for your victories.

Platinum Medals: If you are still on your way to level 50, this season is a good time to work on your platinum medals. To reach level 49, you need 35 of them. There are numerous different medals in the game, giving you plenty of choices on which ones you want to upgrade to platinum.
You can, for example, catch 2,500 of each Pokémon type, trade a certain number of monsters, occupy and defend gyms, participate in raids or PvP battles, or increase your friendship with other players.

Rate PokéStops: Want to try something different? Then rate new PokéStops on the Wayfarer platform or submit new suggestions for your area. This will benefit you and other trainers, and maybe a new interesting place will soon emerge near you.
However, to submit new suggestions or be able to review them, you need to be at least player level 38.
