Some Guardians in Destiny 2 constantly find ways to sabotage players or destroy them through hacks. This time, a trick was used that allowed players to easily kick other Guardians out of the game using Bungie’s built-in text chat.
What happened over the weekend? Over the weekend from July 29 to July 31, a chaotic mess circulated in Destiny 2. Players could kick other Guardians out of the game thanks to the text chat. Many took advantage of this to gain a nasty edge in PvP.
This was a trick where Guardians overloaded an opponent’s text chat with copy-paste messages. The chat became overloaded, resulting in a program crash for the affected player. Bungie noticed this and temporarily disabled the text chat across all platforms.
Bungie blocks the text chat
Guardians helped themselves: When this trick spread, players tried to help themselves. To avoid becoming a victim of such a spam attack, the community advised disabling the chat manually in the settings.
Despite this, more scammers roamed the servers of Destiny 2, maltrasting players who were unaware of the fix. Therefore, Bungie was forced to completely disable the text chat to investigate the problem more closely.

How long will the text chat be disabled? It is still unclear when the chat can go online again without complications. Since it could be a more complicated issue, Bungie may need to tweak it for a while to fix it.
Guardians have to either switch to other platforms like Discord or the integrated voice chat if they want to communicate. It remains to be seen whether and when players will be allowed to type again.
What do you think of Bungie’s quick intervention? Do you think it’s good that the text chat was disabled so quickly? And how was it for you? Were you also a victim of such a kick attempt? Feel free to let us know in the comments!

A former Vice President of Microsoft, Pete Moore, now explains why he fueled the console war between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the 2000s. After the major technical issues with the Xbox 360, they apparently found themselves with their backs against the wall.
Who is speaking? Pete Moore was a Corporate Vice President for Home and Entertainment at Microsoft from 2003 to 2007, and was responsible for the marketing of the Xbox game console. During his 4 years in the role, he oversaw the development of games and studios for the Xbox 360.
In the years that followed, he worked for Electronic Arts for 10 years and was the CEO of Liverpool FC (via linkedin).
Gaming would be worse off today if it hadn’t been done
Why did he escalate the console war? In a podcast, Moore said:
“We encouraged the console war, but not to create a division, rather to spur one another on: And when I say ‘one another,’ I mean Sony and Microsoft.
If Microsoft hadn’t set this course after the Xbox, following the ‘Red Rings of Death’, gaming would be in a worse state today, we wouldn’t have the competition we have now.”
Xbox 360 launched earlier than PS3 and was cheaper – But had technical problems
What does he mean by the ‘Red Rings of Death’? The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005, against the PlayStation 3, which came out a year later on November 11, 2006.
The Xbox 360 had some advantages over the PS3:
It was released a year earlier
was more affordable
and heavily invested in exclusive titles
However, the Xbox 360 was plagued by technical issues: The ‘Red Rings of Death’ error was a warning signal: Surrounding the power button of the Xbox 360 were 3 LED lights:
If the error occurred, “three red rings” would light up. When the error code arrived, players expected:
a freezing of the game
graphic problems during gameplay, such as artifacts
sound issues – especially very loud noises
Even today, Microsoft and Sony are vying for the best titles of the consoles:

How did Microsoft deal with the issue? After the launch of the console, they downplayed the issue. The failure rate was said to be within normal parameters: Only about every 30th to 20th console was affected (via web.archive).
Later, they admitted that there were serious difficulties. Apparently, as many as one in six consoles were affected by the problems.
The technical deficiencies of the Xbox 360 were widely exploited by fans of the PlayStation 3 to mock the competitor.
Apparently, therefore, Xbox had to rely on the Console War, meaning aggressively releasing exclusive titles to stay in business. At least that’s the logic of Pete Moore.
Xbox 360 vs PlayStation 3 was balanced in the console war
How was the Console War back then? The Xbox 360 launched a year before the PlayStation 3 and had more first-party studios, along with some console-exclusive titles available. Additionally, it could remain priced under the PlayStation 3. However, Xbox was plagued by technical problems.
Ultimately, neither the Xbox 360 nor the PlayStation could decisively win the Console War, both being roughly equal with 84 million units (Xbox 360) against 87 million units (PlayStation 3).
In the next generation, however, the PlayStation 4 decisively overcame the Xbox One: The PS4 sold nearly twice as many units as the Xbox One.
In recent years, the “console war” has cooled somewhat, also because Sony and Microsoft have joined forces to fight a common enemy… Google:
AMD accidentally introduced its new line of processors with Ryzen 7000. AM5 features a new socket, along with support for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. MeinMMO presents all the information about the new series and explains what you need to know about the release of Ryzen 7000. What is Ryzen 7000?
AMD has introduced its latest processor series under the name “Raphael” with Ryzen 7000. This follows the previous 5000 series but represents a completely new architecture. With Ryzen 7000 you will get a lot of new features and improvements that you won’t get with Ryzen 5000.
The most important points about Ryzen 7000 at a glance:
Codename: Raphael
Architecture: Zen 4 (5 nanometers)
up to 16 cores with up to 32 threads
DDR5 memory controller, PCIe 5.0 interface
CPUs with integrated graphics processor, based on RDNA 2
New AM5 socket
600 series chipset: X670E, X670, and B650 motherboards
up to 170 W TDP, 230 W peak power
Support for AVX-512
Ryzen 7000 Release – When will AMD’s new CPU lineup arrive?
Is there a release date yet? No, there is still no official release date for when Ryzen 7000 will officially be available in stores.
However, there are already rumors that the release of Ryzen 7000 is expected on September 15, 2022 (via hardwareluxx.de). At least that’s what a Chinese source reported about a dealer meeting. Other sources claim that “Raphael” should appear in the third quarter of 2022.
AMD has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors surrounding the release.
Ryzen 7000 Price – What will the new processors cost?
What will the new processors cost? AMD has not yet announced any official prices for the new “Raphael” processors. However, there are already some rumors that the “Ryzen 7000” CPUs will cost 50 to 100 euros more than the current generation. This was reported by the online magazine (wccftech.com).
However, both Intel with its upcoming “Raptor Lake” processors (i-13000) and the in-house competition (Ryzen 5000) will play a role in determining AMD’s pricing for the new generation.
Ryzen 7000 – With AM5 comes a new socket, what does that mean?
What does a new socket mean? If you want to install a processor on your motherboard, you place the CPU in a compatible socket. Only specific processors fit each socket. All previous Ryzen desktop processors fit the same AM4 socket.
However, with Ryzen 7000, AMD provides a new socket for AM5. This means that your previous Ryzen CPU will no longer fit the socket, but conversely, you also cannot install a new CPU on your old motherboard.
What does AM5 bring? AM5 comes with a lot of new features and functions that you can only use with the new chipset. These include PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory. With AM5, AMD will also adopt a new design for motherboard chipsets, namely B650, X670, and X670E.
Can I still use my old motherboard? If you want to buy a Ryzen 7000 processor, current indications suggest that you cannot avoid getting a new motherboard.
Ryzen 7000 Specs and Features: What’s new with AMD’s “Raphael”?
Higher clock rates: The latest generation from AMD is expected to deliver significantly more performance. AMD had stated at a Financial Analyst Day in June 2022 that there would be around 35% more performance.
PCIe 5.0: In an interview, AMD’s Marketing Director Robert Hallock explained that all AM5 processors will receive support for PCIe 5.0 in 2022 (via AMD.com).
DDR5 Memory: The new memory is supposed to provide better and higher performance. Even the colleagues from GameStar showed in their test with DDR5 and Intel processor that DDR5 delivers more performance on average.
Significantly more connections: With AM5, you will have significantly more connections available on the motherboard: up to 14 USB ports with up to 20 GB/s, and also Type-C. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and up to four display connections will be included.
Ryzen 7000 Benchmarks: How fast will AMD’s new processors be?
How much performance will I get? There is still no reliable information about the performance and capabilities of AMD’s Ryzen 7000. The magazine WCCFTech highlights some information that is said to come from leakers in Asia.
The four currently known new processors are rumored to have the following specs:
Name
Cores/Threads
Clock
Cache
TDP
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
16/32
~5.5 GHz
80 MB (64 + 16)

With the Ryzen 5 7600, AMD is likely to target the majority of users again, following the popular Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 5600X. Both are CPUs that are widely used by gamers.
More tips on new hardware: Are you considering upgrading your PC during the year and, for example, buying a graphics card? Then you should definitely inform yourself about AMD’s RX 7000 series and Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series. Because there are already many rumors:
Customizing your character in World of Warcraft will soon be free. Dragonflight is making one profession poor – and the community happy.
In World of Warcraft, there are plenty of ways to spend the gold you’ve earned. Whether it’s for repairing your gear, buying potions, or a long-distance flight – almost everything costs gold. However, one service will likely become free with the new expansion Dragonflight and ensure that all players can tweak their virtual appearance much more often.
What will change? Short and simple: The costs for visiting the barber in World of Warcraft will be eliminated with Dragonflight. If you want to alter your character’s appearance (face, eye color, jewelry, gender, etc.) at the barber, he will no longer charge you for it in Dragonflight. Please don’t ask how exactly the barbers of the world will still make money, but maybe they have lucrative advertising deals.
Why is Blizzard doing this? The exact reason is not stated; however, there are several clues that suggest a justification.
On the one hand, Dracthyr have more customization options than there are grains of sand. So, they may simply want to lend a hand to the new race – and everyone else – to let them express themselves visually more strongly and frequently.
The gender change was already included in the barber’s offerings some time ago. It must have been a tough retraining.
The second reason is just as likely, and that is the “Inclusivity Offensive” that World of Warcraft has been pursuing for several months. This had previously led to the ability to change the character’s gender at the barber. Before, this was only possible for real money, which the developers said sent a bad signal to the community.
Even though the barber in World of Warcraft is currently quite cheap at max level and adjustments usually cost just a few gold pieces, it has been a barrier that can weigh heavily, especially for new characters and new players. Since it takes time to level up the first character, the barber is definitely a luxury that not everyone can afford.
Please note that this is still a change from the Alpha phase. It is certainly possible that Blizzard will change this again.
The community also wants transmog to be free: With the change, other wishes in the community have been sparked. It is hoped that transmogification will also lose its costs. With transmogification, it is possible to give equipment a different look. Unlike the barber, this service also costs a considerable amount of gold. Transforming an entire set can cost several thousand gold pieces and lead to acute gold shortages with regular changes (Yes, I’m looking at you, druid from my guild).
Transmogification is currently only free during a micro-holiday. Here, players would wish that this service would also be freed from costs to allow for more and frequent variety.
What do you think about the change? Do you think it’s good that the barber’s costs are disappearing? Or was the amount so small that it never mattered?

The sale of accounts and characters is strictly prohibited in most MMORPGs. However, some MMOs allow it. What is your opinion on this?
MMORPGs are among the games that can be played virtually endlessly, which is why fans of the genre often invest thousands of play hours into their favorite game. They undertake quests, defeat raid bosses, master dungeons, and especially continuously develop their characters.
Although one often regards their character as property into which they have invested much time and money, selling characters is prohibited in most MMORPGs. The few exceptions are MMOs like Tibia or EVE Online, where it is possible to transfer characters for in-game currency between accounts.
However, the prohibitions do not prevent people from selling their characters anyway. You can find plenty of game characters for sale on RMT sites (Real Money Trading) and with some gold sellers. Accordingly, the MMORPG community regularly engages in discussions about whether the sale should be legalized or not.
Proponents of sales argue that the characters belong to them and that investing time and money creates a new value that the developer does not provide.
Opponents of sales point to security issues associated with free account trading (example: a scammer steals an account and sells it to themselves to fake legitimacy). Additionally, the sale of characters is considered Pay2Win.
This is how you can vote: You can share your opinion on the topic as usual in the survey tool below. Each of you has exactly one vote, and the choice cannot be undone.
Tell us: What do you think about the free sale of your own characters in MMORPGs? Should more companies follow the example of EVE and Tibia? If so, should the trade be completely free, or are there restrictions necessary to function properly?

The new “Daily Adventure Incense” in Pokémon GO is currently causing a lot of discussions among trainers. Online, some players are showcasing their rare finds.
What is this incense? The daily adventure incense was freshly introduced in Pokémon GO and is meant to provide exciting walks. When you ignite the adventure incense, you receive Pokémon spawns for 15 minutes.
In the announcement, Niantic explained that monsters can also appear that are otherwise seen less frequently in the wild. And that seems to be the case for some trainers.
For example, many trainers are sharing what they encounter on their adventure incense walks on reddit and Twitter.
Galar birds are the highlight, but not the only ones
Which Pokémon spawn in the adventure incense? Trainers are currently finding this out, as the incense has only been available for a few days and can only be used once per day.
But even now it is becoming clear: The monster pool seems to be very large.
It can happen that you only encounter “ordinary” monsters during an incense walk. At the same time, there are also some spawns that you would not normally encounter.
The highlight is the Galar birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. All three Galar variants can be found with the help of the incense, if you are lucky. Some trainers are already showing that they have encountered the monsters:

Cool birds, but: The downside of the legendary Galar birds is that while you can encounter them, catching them is anything but guaranteed. On the contrary: It is quite unlikely. A very low catch rate is combined with a very high flee rate – which can lead to the birds simply departing after a first unsuccessful throw and seeking cover.
Then one can only hope that they reappear on the next adventure incense run. But they are not the only crazy monsters that can appear.
What other spawns are there? One of the most exciting finds was reported by trainer “HaughtyMicky” in the subreddit “TheSilphRoad” (via reddit). He showed that apparently Tobutz from the lake trio appeared through the adventure incense – a very rare, regional monster.
Other trainers have shown that the daily adventure incense has also brought them Shiny monsters. One user, for example, found Shiny-Sneasal – however, the regular one, not the new Hisuian version:

Unfortunately, it didn’t go well for another trainer – albeit somewhat self-inflicted. He apparently ignited the adventure incense during the spotlight hour with Meditie.
It is now clear that the adventure incense apparently does not compete with the spawns of the spotlight hour.

What else spawns? In the subreddit, players talk about a variety of spawns. Some apparently found strong evolutions like Rihornior or Gardevoir, while others talk about rare monsters like Wuffels or Miniras. Such monsters are usually found in the wild only very sporadically, if at all.
However, rare spawns are not guaranteed. This applies to the Galar birds, but also pretty much everything else that spawns from the incense. A proper weighting of the spawns has not yet been established.
Additionally: So far, not all trainers have the feature. The daily adventure incense is being rolled out gradually but is expected to reach all players over the next week.
Have you already gotten the adventure incense, or are you still waiting? And what were your best catches with the new feature? Let us know in the comments!

MeinMMO author Maik Schneider has checked out the new hardcore shooter Marauders in the closed beta and was completely surprised. He talks about his first round in the game and why he can’t wait for the full release.
Marauders is a new hardcore shooter on Steam, which I would roughly describe as a kind of “Escape from Tarkov” in space. An extraction shooter through and through. A closed beta recently took place, and there is still no release date.
Like in popular Tarkov, I lose everything upon my death, start raids for fresh loot, and a hit in vital areas of my character leads to a grim end of the round.
But instead of warehouses, there are asteroid mines, and instead of Soviet flair, there’s spacecraft ambiance.
Furthermore, the game divides into two different gameplay situations: I sneak in first-person view through hostile areas with mortal fear or zip through mission areas with a rickety space skiff.
More about author Maik Schneider: Maik dabbles in many genres but always has some shooter running on the side and has been shooting at everything that moves in a digital world for over 20 years.
He is only slowly venturing into the genre of hardcore shooters and has gained his first experiences with it in Escape from Tarkov. With Marauders, this gameplay style could celebrate its breakthrough with Maik.
When I first received information about Marauders, I immediately thought: The idea is really good, just what I need. But after watching the trailer, I wasn’t so sure anymore.
The quick cuts, a few stutters, and few really significant scenes – the presentation of the announcement trailer from March 2022 totally put me off. But see for yourself:
Start video
Hardcore Shooter Marauders – Announcement Trailer
However, we received a few game keys for testing and I checked out the closed beta, which is now offline again.
It took less than 5 minutes; I was blown away.
My first mission took me to a typical asteroid field. Debris of rock of all sizes orbits a station in the deepest nowhere. Technical devices are recognizable everywhere. The technology looks old, dilapidated, but somehow also advanced.
At that point already the first pleasant surprise: I control the ship completely and it feels good. The steering is a bit twitchy, not too direct, and due to the inertia, precise maneuvers are difficult.
Moreover, Marauders makes use of the dieselpunk setting. This means: I shoot with bullets at enemies. Lasers, phasers, disruptors – none of that. Together with the controls, this creates strong conditions for fast-paced battles in space.
Space combat is an essential part of Marauders, which I never would have expected in this extent.
What does “dieselpunk” mean?
The term describes a sub-genre of science fiction. While the better-known “steampunk” setting is based on old-fashioned technologies utilizing steam energy, the “dieselpunk” setting uses diesel fuel.
The setting is often darker and dirtier than in steampunk, but somewhat more advanced in technical style.
Marauders utilizes an alternative timeline and takes place in 1992, after wars between three rival factions have displaced many people from Earth.
The titular characters “Marauder” are a type of pirates who can only survive through looting.
After the WOW effect, I left the ship view and switched to first-person shooter mode. I stand on the functional bridge of my small adventure ship. The gray of the steel walls is only interrupted by the red warning signals that light up everywhere on the ship.
I was still fiddling in the menu when there was a bang. I looked at the old consoles, at rusty pipes, and was sure – the sound comes from my spaceship. Already in the description, I am surprised that it still flies.
The first ship – On the edge of airworthiness.
At the second bang shortly after, I ran from the control options directly to the bridge. The sounds were no longer signs of aging of my ship; it was gunfire – enemy contact, I had been in the game for 2 minutes.
Another “Marauder” was shooting unabashedly at my little noob ship. But the enemy’s vehicle was also no better. I wouldn’t describe the ensuing battle as “epic”. But at least it was exciting.
Two bloody newcomers engage in a humiliating duel in slow motion, and only luck determines the winner. I was unlucky and had already taken two nasty hits before the fight. But revenge was to come.
In Marauders, ships do not burst into a million pieces. You have enough time to calmly walk into the belly of the clunker, take a rescue capsule, and leave the sinking ship.
For me, however, it was more of a panicked sprint through all the corridors to finally stand in front of the capsules after a complete tour of the ship.
My ship is damaged, but it doesn’t turn into a cloud of gas.
I certainly didn’t know that I had enough time. What I did know: These helpful rescue capsules are also nasty boarding pods that allow me to board the enemy’s ship.
Out into space, direct interception course on the annoying enemy, and after a skillful left-right dodge combination I suddenly found myself in the sparsely furnished cabin of the enemy.
For the enemy, the whole thing was probably as overwhelming as it was for me. However, I was not the one with an enemy in the space basement.
In this moment, alone on the enemy’s ship, his steps on the metal floor getting closer, I was extremely deep in the game; the immersion was almost perfect.
I was briefly that guy who had no ship and thus no escape option left. But one chance remained. Eliminate the enemy, take over the ship, return home with a black eye.
As the enemy Marauder came down the stairs, my pulse was as high as the fire rate of my MP40. I completely flinched when firing, but two or three hits landed, and that was enough.
The first kill was so important!
I grab his stuff, then full throttle to the bridge and home in the same breath. Slowly, I calmed down, mentally sitting back at my desk and already having a fantastic evening. The “raid” lasted only 5 minutes.
Conclusion: Fortunately, first impressions can be misleading
After my first impressions of Marauders, I expected nothing. The gameplay sounds good, but there are often similar experiences on Steam, and then disappointment comes at launch.
Then the shooter suddenly hits me with such an entry into the game. After 5 minutes, love at second sight.
I spent a few hours in the closed beta, and my impression has only solidified further. I want to emphasize the sound during the first-person shooter gameplay.
It is extremely sharp and precise. Even distant footsteps are easily audible, with the direction being determined exactly with the appropriate headphones. Additionally, every little movement causes a sound, which ensures that you always know pretty accurately what is happening around you.
Moreover, the enemy density in the first-person shooter missions is high. NPCs constantly run around corners, and player enemies, Marauders, are not rare. This brings in a lot of action and provides ample loot supply.
This mix of spaceship combat and hardcore shooter looting missions really excites me. And it was implemented very well.
I saw weaknesses in the closed beta regarding performance. There were occasional minor stutters. However, not during the battles, which mostly ran smoothly.
Additionally, I noticed imbalances – armor is too strong compared to the low health. Here I would wish for higher health.
Moreover, campers have an advantage because player localization works so well through the audio system. You are only “hidden” if you do not move at all.
So far, however, it was only a beta version, and there is still no concrete release date. As soon as it happens, I will be ready with a box of fine chocolates and fragrant flowers to embrace my new shooter love on Steam.
Destiny 2 has many experts in PvP. One of them, the YouTuber SirDimetrious, has taken the time to express his statement regarding PvP. He knows why the Crucible is doomed to fail.
Who is this PvP god? SirDimetrious is a YouTuber with 609,000 subscribers. He makes successful videos about Destiny 2, focusing on PvP.
In doing so, he often records his videos with other well-known “Destiny 2” faces like Aztecross, IFrostBolt, or Mr. Fruit. These videos are entertainingly shot, with many effects, but focusing on his PvP gameplay. He impresses with outstanding aim and can thus outperform many PvP professionals.
Since his heart beats for the Crucible, he took the time to address his view on PvP. He clarifies what is currently destroying PvP and why the mode from Lord Shaxx, without changes, is doomed to fail.
Bungie ensures that PvP requires no skill anymore
SirD, as he is also called, named two points responsible for why PvP is currently in such a miserable state:
No new content like maps, modes, or events related to PvP and that for years
Too many weapons that Bungie nerfs
These two points are the main reasons why the Crucible cannot thrive. Guardians have been demanding new maps or modes for PvP for years. But especially the second point about the nerfs is interesting.
A new map after X years and players despise it.
Anyone who knows Destiny 2 knows that Crucible talents hope for a new PvP map with every DLC and in every season. This is the reason many believe the mode from Lord Shaxx is declining. But Dimetrious also talks about nerfs that have severely impacted the Crucible.
He even goes so far as to claim that Bungie ensures that players no longer need skill in PvP to succeed, for example, in the Trials of Osiris.
Why do players no longer need skill? SirD believes Bungie nerfs too many weapons and robs them of their uniqueness. Especially exotic weapons are hit hard. Weapons like “The Last Word” are unique. Not everyone can handle them and they require practice. However, once you get the hang of it, you become unstoppable with them.
Dimetrious believes that Bungie is closely examining these standout weapons and trying to clip their wings. They don’t want to destroy the characteristics of the exotics with nerfs but still rein them in. This results in positive attributes being nerfed until the weapon only performs outstandingly at a predetermined distance.
The guns are still good, but only within their specified range. This means that no matter how outstanding your aiming might be, you are more likely to lose a fight against a “Multimach CCX” SMG at 16 meters than at 12 meters.
If you want to see the test yourself, we have embedded his video here.

Therefore, SirD conducted tests with a player of equal strength. In these tests, they faced off against each other at various distances. The YouTuber used “The Last Word” as his hand cannon, while his colleague used the submachine gun “Multimach CCX”. Distances of 12, 14, and 16 meters were utilized.
They found that after 12 meters, “The Last Word” had no chance against the SMG. No matter how well the YouTuber placed his shots, it was impossible for him to compete. Consequently, he concluded that gunfights should not be decided by maintaining distances, but by the actual trained skill.
Therefore, pulse rifles and fusion rifles currently dominate the Crucible arenas. They can bring opponents to their knees at any distance. According to Dimetrious, however, this has nothing to do with skill.
PvP is a complicated topic: Everyone essentially defines for themselves why the Crucible is in such a miserable state. Whether it’s nerfs, hackers, or lack of content. Many factors come together that ensure that many Guardians no longer feel comfortable in these modes.
In comparison to the PvE mode, the Crucible has received zero attention from Bungie for years. While new raids and dungeons are added in every DLC or season, the dust on Lord Shaxx’s shoulders gets thicker. It remains to be seen whether Bungie will ever truly deliver new content for the Crucible or continue to dry it out until the release of the brand “Destiny”.
What do you think of SirD’s opinion? Are you on his side or do you really think it’s only about the lack of content? Feel free to let us know in the comments.

Not yet released and already nerfed. The flying ability of the Dracthyr in World of Warcraft has to take a significant hit and is heavily restricted.
The alpha of World of Warcraft Dragonflight is in full swing. But a decision by the developers has caused quite a stir, as the new race of the Dracthyr is being heavily nerfed even before the release. This concerns the “Soar” ability, which allows Dracthyr to mimic dragon flying. This ability will be a staggering 30% weaker than before – much to the dismay of the fans.
What is the Soar ability? The “Soar” ability (in German “Aufsteigen”) is a racial ability of the Dracthyr, which is only available to the Evokers, as all Dracthyr are Evokers. Until recently, the ability allowed them to mimic dragon riding on the Dragon Isles – and it could be done anywhere in the game world. Dragon riding is a new form of movement that feels completely different and plays with gravity and momentum while flying.
Dragon flying eventually means that you have to land again, although skilled players can stay in the air for a long time.
The catch is: While characters on an epic flying mount can reach a maximum movement speed of 410% (plus minor buffs, such as from auras).
However, Dracthyr could achieve speeds of up to 930% with their Soar ability – thus more than double.
The nerf is significant: Blizzard is making short work of the ability and significantly reduces the maximum movement speed of the Dracthyr. The top speed drops from around 930% to 640% – thus a reduction of nearly 30%.
Blizzard explains:
‘Soar’ is important for the identity of the Dracthyr. From the very beginning of the design process, we knew that Dracthyr had to be able to fly in some way, even if we would work out the details later. However, Soar is also a racial ability and was never intended to grant such a massive advantage in efficiency and performance over the other races. These two goals are somewhat in conflict with each other: making Soar fun so that it serves the fantasy of a flying creature, but at the same time we don’t want to give one race such a massive advantage in large areas of the game.
The goal is to maintain the fun and feel of the mechanic. Moreover, Soar in skilled hands is still significantly faster than epic mounts – the advantage is just not as huge anymore.
Community reacts disappointed but understanding: As soon as these changes became known, there were already some critics who commented “Fun detected!” This is an old meme surrounding Blizzard that basically says: as soon as a mechanic is discovered that means too much fun, Blizzard comes along and removes it right away.
In reality, however, most are understanding and recognize that Dracthyr with the old values would have had a significant advantage over all other classes. Especially in the old game world, gliding would have been so powerful that playing any other class to tackle old content would be seen as “a waste of time”.
The Soar ability remains powerful – but not so powerful that all other classes feel like they have to crawl behind.
What do you think about it? Is it good that this is being done during the alpha? Or would you have liked to play the “Turbo Dracthyr”?
A Chinese artist makes allegations of plagiarism against the publisher Activision. One of his artworks is claimed to have been copied for the new Dog Soldier skin in CoD: Vanguard and Warzone.
This is the skin in question: Since June 22, Season 4 of CoD Vanguard and Warzone has been running, bringing a new map and numerous new cosmetic items to the game. One of these items was set to become the “Dog Soldier” skin, which would be available as part of the “Floof Fury” bundle.
The operator skin gives your character a fluffy dog head, and as a bonus, there are legendary blueprints, spray, charm, and some stickers.
You can see a video of the CoD skin here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbRcJ3D30uA
“I am really disappointed”
This is the problem: On July 29, a user came forward on Twitter, making plagiarism accusations against CoD Vanguard. The Chinese artist Sail Lin stated in the post that the new dog skin was copied from one of his designs.
The image under the name “Samoye Medical” (via Artstation) was part of the concept art collection “Monster Army”, where soldiers had heads of various animals (tigers, bears, crocodiles, etc.).

Sail Lin’s artwork has been on Artstation for 2 years, a site where professional artists showcase and sell their work or look for job offers.
In a post on Twitter, the artist showed the similarities between his artwork and the “Dog Soldier” skin in CoD:
The backpack and its “side accessory”
An elbow pad on the left arm
A pouch on the right thigh
Scarf and its patterns
The comparison image from Sail Lin’s tweet. On the left is the original, on the right is the CoD skin.
It is also noticeable the patch on the left arm of both skins. While Sail Lin’s Samoye image shows the medic’s insignia there, the patch on the CoD skin is simply black. It seems as if the insignia has simply been removed.
This is what has happened since then: The tweet from the Chinese artist went viral on Twitter and has now gathered almost 27,000 upvotes. Sail Lin himself expressed his disappointment in the tweet and mentioned that he has already contacted Activision regarding the skin.
The CoD news site ModernWarzone also reports that Activision has removed all images of the dog skin that were used for the Season 4 promotion. Under the tweet from the news site, fans speculate whether this means the complete removal of the skin from CoD.
What do you think about the comparison between Sail Lin’s image and the CoD skin? Do you think it is a blatant copy or just a coincidence? Let us know in the comments.

In November, the latest installments of the Pokémon series, Scarlet and Violet, will be released. The titles are set to introduce the 9th generation of pocket monsters, and the community is already hotly debating what new mechanics and Pokémon could be introduced. The possibility of a new Pokémon type is also up for discussion.
What is the background of the discussion? With the introduction of a new generation, the popular franchise surrounding the little monsters occasionally receives new types that determine a Pokémon’s element.
In the second generation, which brought us the games Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the Steel and Dark types were added. New monsters like Umbreon and Tyranitar (Dark) as well as Steelix and Scizor (Steel) embodied these introduced types.
With the sixth generation and the release of the 2013 games X and Y, the Fairy type followed, which served as a direct counter to the strong Dragon Pokémon. However, with generations 7 and 8, there were no further innovations.
Fans of the franchise have been waiting for 9 years for an additional type – or are resisting its introduction. Especially now, with the release of the 9th generation approaching, the debate is back in focus. Central to the discussion is a Pokémon type that the community conceived several years ago: the Sound type. The question arose whether a new type will be among the new pocket monsters of the upcoming games, including the Internet’s hero Lechonk.
If you want to get a first impression of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet before discussing the Sound type, here’s the trailer:
Start video

Deafening noise: Sound type uses sound and screams
What distinguishes the Sound type? The Sound type targets Pokémon whose strength lies in producing (loud) sounds or using sound to weaken their opponents.
In the German variant, the type could be translated as “Sound” with “Sound” being more suitable.
Which moves would belong to the Sound type? Just like with the already existing Pokémon, there would also be a selection of moves that would fit the Sound type.
Currently, these moves are generally of the Normal type, but produce a sound or a sound wave during execution, making them ideal for the Sound type. The following moves could be suitable for the Sound type:
Howl
Yowl
Chalk Scream
Sing
Roar
Canon
Uproar
Supersonic
Sound Wave
Echo
Supersonic Boom
Against which Pokémon types these moves would be very effective would probably only be revealed in a possible release. It is also unclear which pocket monsters would be particularly strong or resilient or weak and susceptible against the Sound type.
Sound in the Pokémon World: from Flurmel to Riffex
Pokémon that already received a new type: With the introduction of a new type, new Pokémon are usually created that embody this type. We have already seen this approach with examples like Umbreon and the Dark type, Steelix as a Steel Pokémon, and Feelinara as a representative of the Fairy type.
But besides the introduction of new monsters, there are also already known Pokémon that receive the respective new type. Examples of this include:
Meowth and Persian received the Dark type in the Alola version.
Magneton and Magneton were originally only Electric-type in generation 1 and received the Steel type upon the release of generation 2.
Pii, Piepi, and Pixi were Normal-type from generations 1 to 5 and swapped this for the Fairy type starting from the sixth generation.
Fluffeluff, Pummeluff, and Knuddeluff additionally adopted the Fairy type from generation 6 besides the Normal type.
Which Pokémon could receive the Sound type? The chubby pink monster Jigglypuff is also one of the examples of Pokémon that could receive the Sound type. It has had the move “Sing” since generation 1 and learns it already at level 1.
Additionally, it has been seen in the anime for years with a microphone in hand, singing everyone to sleep. Fluffeluff, Jigglypuff, and Knuddeluff could thus lose the Normal type. However, there are further Pokémon that would be well-suited for the Sound type.
Jigglypuff sings other Pokémon to sleep. Image source: Pokémon anime season 2, episode 7
The German YouTuber PokéBazi has made some thoughts and presented in a video a series of well-known Pokémon that, in his opinion, could receive the Sound type. Below is a small selection of the pocket monsters he considers sensible.
Flurmel, Krakeelo and especially Krawumms: The three evolutions possess moves like Uproar, Yowl, Howl, Supersonic, Chalk Scream, and Sound Wave, which produce sounds or sound waves. Furthermore, the syllable “Kra” in the name hints at the term “noise” and Krawumms’ appearance suggests an organ.
Plaudergei: The name of Plaudergei combines the terms “chatting” and “parrot”. It has moves like Sing, Canon, Echo, Uproar, and Sound Wave. Additionally, there are music notes integrated into the design of the bird Pokémon.
Schallquap, Mebrana and Branawarz: The water Pokémon have a kind of bulge on their body that allows them to create vibrations and sounds. The creation of tones or sounds is also reflected in their names. Schallquap combines “sound” and “tadpole”. Branawarz means Gamageroge in the original Japanese. The term “gerogero” is the Japanese onomatopoeia for the croaking of a frog.
Meloetta: The hair of Meloetta represents a sheet music and the body shape resembles a microphone. The name includes the term “melody” and the moves of the Pokémon also reflect the generation of tones (Sing, Echo, Wake-Up Call, Sound Wave).
Riffex: According to speculation, Riffex’s design is based on a salamander and a punk rocker. This is also reflected in one of Riffex’s abilities, which is named “Punk Rock” (via pokemon.com). Riffex can create sounds reminiscent of an electric guitar by vibrating its fingers on the “lamellae” on its upper body.
Below, we embed the video from PokéBazi, in which he lists Pokémon that he believes deserve the Sound type:

What do players think of the Sound type? Under the video from PokéBazi, some YouTube users express their opinions about the Sound type and whether they find it sensible. Many like the idea but have concerns about effectiveness and balancing.
Tenryu: “My problem with a sound type has always been that I lack the imagination to logically integrate it into the type chart and simultaneously provide value in balancing.”
DennisBIH: “I find it difficult to integrate new types.”
iD0uble4UstrUble: “Sound type is nice and all, but I’m really interested in how it interacts with other types and vice versa. It’s hard for me to imagine.”
deadlui_: “I really don’t find a new type necessary, but I can already imagine that the Sound type will occur in Pokémon.”
Rufjetkin: “No one needs the Sound type.”
A YouTube user Manu takes it a step further in his comment and directly responds to the question posed by the YouTuber during the video regarding whether viewers are wishing for other types: “Sound fits so well with so many Pokémon. I could also imagine an Ancient type really well. That would also fit Pokémon Scarlet. I could also imagine a Technology type, for example with the new Legendary Pokémon from Violet.”
What do you think of the idea of the Sound type? Do you find the idea sensible, or do you think Pokémon should stick to the current types? Feel free to let us know your comments here on MeinMMO!
We want to know which expansion of World of Warcraft you have enjoyed the most so far. Tell us why you love your addon so much!
World of Warcraft is stepping into its 9th expansion and soon will be 20 years old – the MMORPG is still actively played. However, over the years, there have been not only positives but also negatives. Long content droughts, unpopular expansions, or simply a lack of communication between developers and the community.
Therefore, we want to take a look back at all 9 current and past versions of World of Warcraft and ask in the end: Which expansion was the best?
All expansions of WoW – but which one was the best?
To give you a rough overview of what happened in each expansion, we have here a short summary:
World of Warcraft (Vanilla) marked the beginning of the MMORPG and thus the foundation of the gaming legend. 9 different classes, two large continents, and numerous quests, dungeons, and raids. It was the “raw” version of WoW.
The Burning Crusade was the first expansion and took heroes into the shattered world to defeat well-known enemies like Illidan, Kael’thas, and Vashj. There were the new races Blood Elves and Draenei, as well as heroic dungeons.
Wrath of the Lich King led to Northrend and the final battle against the Lich King. The Death Knight was added as a new class, there were new PvP battles in the open world, and different raid difficulties.
Cataclysm brought the overhaul of the old world, the first complete underwater area, and legendary raids like the Firelands, as well as a confrontation with one of the greatest enemies Azeroth ever had: Deathwing.
Mists of Pandaria took us to the mist-covered continent of Pandaria and introduced the Pandaren as a new race and the Monk class. It also featured a redesign of the talent system, scenarios, and the LFR mode. Oh, and Garrosh.
Many WoW fans only appreciated “Mists of Pandaria” retrospectively.
Warlords of Draenor took us to Draenor in a parallel dimension. The big feature here was the garrison with its many upgrade levels and the story surrounding the Iron Horde – featuring many well-known orc characters from the past.
Legion brought the Broken Isles, the Demon Hunter as a new hyper-mobile class, and the legendary artifact weapons with their upgrade system, as well as class campaigns and the associated order halls.
Battle for Azeroth brought the destruction of Teldrassil and Undercity, Azerite armor, island expeditions, the Heart of Azeroth, and warfronts. Additionally, there was a revamped “M+” system and many allied races.
Shadowlands explored the afterlife of Azeroth, four extensive covenants with abilities and unlockable upgrades, as well as the Tower of Torghast with its absurdly powerful abilities. There was also a reunion with known deceased legends.
Now let’s move on to the survey! Keep in mind that you only have one vote. The goal is to choose the one best expansion.
Diese Umfrage ist geschlossen.
If you like, feel free to leave a comment and let us know why the respective expansion was the best for you. We look forward to your stories!
Currently, Blizzard has a good chance of delivering a real hit with the next expansion Dragonflight, as the first impressions in the Alpha are overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic.

Today, there is a special raid day in Pokémon GO: Hisui-Washakwil is making its debut and can be caught for the first time. Additionally, there are special bonuses – here you will find everything in the overview.
When is the raid day? The raid day takes place on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time. During this time, you should raid as much as you can.
What is special about the event? There is a debut: The Hisui version of Washakwil will be catchable for the first time in Pokémon GO.
Hisui-Washakwil and all bonuses – Is the raid day worth it?
What kind of Pokémon is this? The normal Washakwil has been in the game for a while as the evolution of Geronimatz. Now the “Hisui” version is coming to the game. Fans might already know it from “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”. There, Hisui-Washakwil is also one of the companion Pokémon that you can use to fly from A to B.
Since it is essentially a new Pokémon, catching it is worthwhile just for the Pokédex entry in Pokémon GO. However, it will not be among the best attackers in PvP, raids, or gyms. But there is still an exciting bonus for collectors.
Can Washakwil be shiny? Yes, and the chance of encountering shiny Washakwil will be increased during the raid day. Accordingly, you can try to get a new specimen for your shiny collection here.
This is what the shiny variant looks like
How do I defeat Hisui-Washakwil? For Hisui-Washakwil, two trainers should be sufficient if you use the right counters at a high level. However, to be safe and to get through faster, you should go in with more trainers.
The most important bonus: To enable you to raid effectively, you will receive five free raid passes during the event and up to two hours afterward when you spin the gym photo discs.
It is expected that you will only receive the next raid pass after the last one has been used – as you would with the daily pass. Therefore, you should always spin a gym disc immediately after you finish a raid to get the next pass.
If you save the free pass from the previous day (Saturday), you could theoretically complete six free raids. This can be worthwhile because, during the raid day, there are some extra bonuses.
These bonuses are also available: Besides Hisui-Washakwil, you can utilize various bonuses that apply to all raids occurring during the event period.
The chance of getting XL rare candies from raid battles on-site is increased
50% more XP for won raid battles
Additionally, the friendship bonus from the Hisui event is still active:
Friendship levels increase faster when you complete raid battles
Good XP opportunity on raid day: Since you already receive 50% more XP from won raid battles, you can effectively use the raid day to level up.
With lucky eggs, you can increase the XP yield
If you use a lucky egg, you will receive double XP from raid battles for half an hour. This can be really beneficial if you can complete as many raids in a row as possible during this time. Therefore, it’s best to play in an area with numerous gyms to quickly complete raids back to back.
Additionally, you can possibly use the raid day to increase your friendship level to collect XP. Because: The friendship level milestones are one of the best ways to farm XP.
For reaching hyperfriends, you get 50,000 XP (100,000 with lucky egg).
The jump to “Best Friend” even brings 100,000 XP (200,000 with lucky egg).
Since the friendship level increases faster with completed raids, this is a good opportunity to gather XP if you play with your Pokémon GO friends.
Here, timing is crucial – if you see that the jump to the next friendship level is imminent, it can also be worth using a lucky egg.
In 2014, Destiny was released and in doing so, made the MMO genre popular on consoles as a loot shooter. At that time, we thought that this would be the future of MMOs. But it turned out differently. In the podcast, we discuss what led to this and what is coming next.
On the PlayStation and Xbox, and in loot shooters, there were many things not known at the release of Destiny that are normal in an MMORPG: Merchant Xur has a regular reset, there are dungeons and raids. Equipment and characters evolve, as seen in an RPG.
This, combined with the legendary gunplay of Destiny, took the gaming world by storm. With MeinMMO, we thought at that time that this would be a new era for MMOs. We were sure that a new trending genre would emerge for MMO fans and persist.
The great era of loot shooters seems to be over now. Leya, Schuhmann, and Maik wonder where the next trend in MMOs lies. What happened to the loot shooters, and what comes next? Will hardcore shooters like Hunt: Showdown take their place? Or will everything just be battle royale?

The killers in Dead by Daylight are unstoppable – at least that’s what some players believe. The latest patch hit solo players particularly hard.
A few days ago, Dead by Daylight had one of the biggest balancing adjustments of all time. Not only was the perk system revised, but many details of the core gameplay were also adjusted. The basic idea behind many of these changes was: Killers should become stronger, as they statistically achieve too few kills per round.
After all the changes, however, there is an outcry in the community: The game is no longer fun, killers are too powerful.
Several threads in the Dead by Daylight subreddit have 4,000 to 5,000 upvotes on the subject.
What is the problem right now? The biggest losers are the “Solo-Q” players, meaning those survivors who sign up for a match alone. They contrast with the “Survive with Friends” (SWF) groups, which generally team up and communicate via voice chat to inform each other about the killer’s position or actions.
Solo-Q players in particular have the impression that killers are now far too powerful. They are often caught very early, and the willingness of other players to help is lower when they are not in a group with them.
This is a problem, especially after the developers removed the blood points bonus from the perk “We will live forever.” This perk previously rewarded players with a massive blood points boost when they rescued other players from hooks.
Rescuing still grants blood points (as it always has), but a bonus cannot be accumulated through the perk.
Fundamentally, killers are now significantly deadlier. This is more pronounced against solo players; group players can still compensate for much of it through communication.
Survivors are feeling bad right now – especially as solo players.
What do the developers say? Quite a bit, but without substance – at least based on the comments. MandyTalk from Behaviour wrote officially that they know the patch has brought significant changes. It will take some time for everyone to get used to the changes. Furthermore, it says:
However, we will not rush anything – when we see things that we know are a high-priority problem, we will, of course, make changes in the planned hotfixes. There may even be more changes in the future, depending on how all of this affects players once they have had time to acclimate to the changes.
In the end, the developers are sticking to their decision for now. The kill rates were too low and needed to be raised.
Dead by Daylight is a live game that is constantly evolving, and changes are based on that. The plan for this update was to increase the kill rates, as they were lower than we would like. It will take a while to see the full extent of the changes, players need to adapt, and so on. This update and its aftermath are definitely something we are monitoring closely.
Solo players are feeling worse and worse: One of the comments with the most reactions and awards comes from jimmypopjr on Reddit, whose opinion we have translated here:
I can only speak for myself as a solo-Q player with over 2,000 hours of gameplay.
This update has hit me pretty hard.
I love this game, but not unconditionally. I don’t expect to win/escape often; I just want to have fun and not be so frustrated that disconnecting seems like a viable option. I don’t want to be tunneled or see others being tunneled.
But since the update, the game has not been fun for me anymore. In more than 50% of my matches, I think to myself at the end that I should take a break. When the matches are frustrating, the matchmaking feels unbalanced, and the blood points and XP rewards are ridiculous (especially when you get tunneled out in the first few minutes)… then disconnects and long wait times just seem like the natural outcome.
It’s really unfortunate that such a fun game can also be so frustrating alongside these peaks. It feels like some people only use this game as a catalyst to make others feel as bad as possible.
And to make matters worse, this subreddit and this community, which I generally think is great, is unfortunately full of people who want to diminish the opinions and experiences of others with their own anecdotal experiences.
Now I’m stuck in a game I love, but it no longer feels fun and rewarding enough to be worth my time… and with a community that doesn’t care how disappointed I am that the patch has affected me so much (but still cares enough to tell me why I’m wrong or why I’ve been carried by the old meta, even though I’ve never played like that).
It feels bad.
This comment seems to resonate with many, as it has received nearly a dozen Reddit awards and over 1,000 upvotes.
What is your experience as a killer and survivor in Dead by Daylight right now? Are you having fun and enjoying the update? Or have the developers gone too far?

Diablo Immortal received strong criticism after launch and was bombarded with poor reviews. Nevertheless, the game is doing financially very well and with the delayed launch in China, it has increased its player base by a third.
This is the status of Diablo Immortal: Since the launch on June 2, Blizzard’s new game has had to struggle with a wave of negative reactions and review bombing from the fans.
Criticism was mainly directed at the cash shop and monetization of Diablo Immortal, which is especially Pay2Win in the endgame and uses psychological tricks to get money out of players’ pockets.
However, the negativity did not change the fact that the ARPG became very successful. Just a week after launch, they reported a revenue of 10 million dollars, and the number continued to rise.
On July 28, the analysis site SensorTower reported that Diablo Immortal surpassed 100 million dollars in revenue, which was earned through the Google Play Store and the App Store. This means that the figure is likely much higher since PC revenues were not counted.
More about Diablo Immortal on MeinMMO can be found here:
First, a threat of ban, then exploding player numbers
There was, however, a major problem for Blizzard with Diablo Immortal. The launch in China, one of the largest mobile markets in the world, was supposed to take place in mid-June, but was long in limbo.
That’s why there were problems with China: The reason for a possible ban of Diablo Immortal was a statement allegedly from one of Blizzard’s marketing team members. It indirectly demanded that the Chinese head of state, Xi Jinping, should resign.
Accordingly, it looked for some time as if Blizzard would lose the license to release Diablo Immortal from the state. But even that turned out positively for the game.
Diablo Immortal celebrated its official launch in China on July 25, causing player numbers to shoot up. Just 2 days before the release, the game’s official Twitter account celebrated that the number of active players exceeded 20 million.
Less than a week later, the next tweet followed, as this number was increased by a whopping 50% to 30 million. As a small “thank you,” players can receive an additional legendary emblem as well as 6 rare chests.

A western player tested how much loot a Free2Play player would get in Diablo Immortal:
Embers Adrift is set to release in 2022, the developers emphasized in a new video. Reason enough to take a closer look at the new MMORPG. That’s exactly what MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch has done, sharing his first experiences as well as his concerns with you.
Embers Adrift is not a classic MMORPG like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2. I notice this right from the first few minutes of the closed beta that is currently running. But as someone who is interested in all MMORPGs, it felt like a duty to buy a package and create my own first impression.
And that impression is mixed.
For the first quests and battles already signal to me that I will need time to make progress in this MMORPG. The whole game screams for adventure and exploration, but also for group searching and hard work. That’s not necessarily what I’m looking for, but it appeals to a specific niche of gamers.
And exactly for this niche, it could be extremely interesting.
Start video
PvE MMORPG Embers Adrift shows 4 minutes of gameplay footage
Not a game for fans of easy starts, action-packed battles, and good graphics
Embers Adrift is a PvE sandbox MMORPG. The philosophy of the developers states that I do not follow a clear story or clear tasks, but instead experience an adventure in my own way. Relationships with other players must be built upon, as many contents are aimed at group players.
After about seven hours of gameplay and some watched videos, I can confirm that this MMORPG does many things differently – and not everything is immediately better.
Unusual are the quest texts. I really have to read these to understand and complete the tasks. There are no markers in the game, not even for the next NPC I should talk to. And there is also no popular minimap.
Also surprising are the first enemies I encounter. Every enemy has a marker that indicates whether I can defeat them alone, in pairs, or only in a group. And yes, group enemies are already in the starting area of the MMORPG and should not be attacked. Here, the first death can come swiftly.
Moreover, the start feels unfinished, and I somehow feel out of place. There is no real introduction, I am simply thrown into the world and attended to with initial tasks.
The character editor of Embers Adrift.
But before I even enter the game world, I choose from three specializations during character creation: Defenders are like tanks, Supporters are healers, and Strikers deal damage. Later, at level 6, I then choose a second specialization from the same three options. My final class is formed from the 9 possible combinations.
However, even though level 6 sounds quite close, it will take me several hours to get there. This is not necessarily due to the required experience points but rather due to the often long travel times and the very slow battles. Actions are executed only after two seconds, and there are global cooldowns that make everything even slower. Fans of action-packed battles might quickly get bored.
During the course of the game, however, the combat system develops its charm. I have to target enemies deliberately; otherwise, I will be overwhelmed, and I cannot just jump into everything, as is the case in many modern titles. Challenging battles often only come in the endgame. And even in groups, the fights are more fun because more tactics are needed and at least something happens around me… even if it’s just attacks from my teammates.
Regarding the speed of leveling, there is currently a lot of controversy in the community. The journey to level 20 is said to take many hours. After level 20, the curve is said to increase again, making it almost impossible for solo players to reach level 30 in the foreseeable future.
The quest texts in Embers Adrift are hefty and visually not ideal, but important for progress.
Embers Adrift is an indie MMORPG. Nowhere is this more evident than in the graphics. The attacks are quite static, the textures not particularly high-resolution, and overall, it feels like a game from the late 2000s. If you are hoping for a totally detailed character editor, you will also be disappointed.
However, I am excited about some ideas and features of the game. For instance, from the beginning, the journey is the goal. I can fight tough bosses in the open world early on or visit dungeons with other players. This is a really good approach, as often the leveling phases are something I want to skip quickly in modern games to get to the core content.
If you die in Embers Adrift, you can also be revived, similar to New World or Guild Wars 2. I have come to particularly appreciate this mechanic in recent years, and it fits perfectly into the social fabric of the new MMORPG.
I also view the in-depth crafting system positively, allowing players to create always relevant items for their progress. I must admit that I haven’t delved particularly deeply into this yet. However, relevant crafting is always something I see as very positive and important.
However, an old principle applies here: You can only master two professions simultaneously. If you switch a profession, you completely lose your progress in the old one.
On paper, Embers Adrift attracts many because it is a pure PvE game. There is a complete absence of PvP. This makes the open world safer and encourages cooperation among players.
It’s crazy that the nights are really dark. While this is atmospherically very cool, it also means that I could hardly play at the dead of night and had to periodically increase my monitor brightness significantly just to see anything. Although there is a torch on the F1 key, it only helps to a limited extent.
The cooldowns are quite long right from the start. Even the auto-attack takes 4 seconds to charge.
Embers Adrift is perfect for players with plenty of time, patience, and friends
Overall, Embers Adrift plays quite sluggishly, especially when comparing it to modern games like ESO or Guild Wars 2. But this is where the developers’ philosophy comes into play again.
Basically, you need group players for all the content and preferably an active guild that plays together every evening. This way, enemies are defeated faster, quests are easier to resolve, and you can spend the travel times joking around in voice chat.
If you can invest the time to constantly arrange meetings with others and experience adventures together, Embers Adrift might be the perfect game for you.
However, there is a danger that, with too few players or if friends leave the game, many core aspects of the MMORPG may be lost. I already felt this in the beta, as it was not so easy to find players at all. Due to the subscription model, Embers Adrift will also struggle to attract new players, so that they can take their first steps in the game.
In contrast, there is a game that completely does without a shop. This ensures that special skins must truly be earned. Much in Embers Adrift has thus a strong pro and con.
If you want to enjoy Embers Adrift, you definitely need time.
If you want to play Embers Adrift now, you need to purchase a Founder’s Pack for $50. It includes beta access, a special title, and one month of free playtime after the release. With the release, the MMORPG will then become a subscription game. However, the beta currently only takes place at certain times.
The full release of Embers Adrift is expected to take place in 2022. For the time afterward, the developers are planning regular updates with new quests, zones, and dungeons.
Embers Adrift has a special allure, but it’s not my game
Pros
A game for adventurers and explorers
A good class system with a classic Holy Trinity
The journey is the goal, and challenges are encountered early
It is perfect for group players and fixed guilds
It completely forgoes a real-money shop
A game for true PvE fans, as there is no PvP
Cons
The start feels unfinished
Overall, the game is very sluggish, thanks to long travel distances and slow battles
The game requires a lot of time
The subscription model may deter new players
The fun of the game heavily depends on the players and the number of players
Embers Adrift is the exact opposite of the MMORPGs I like to play. Anyone who regularly reads my articles will know that I am active in many games simultaneously and work towards clear goals. As a father, this is also the most effective way for me to prepare for tackling a larger challenge over the weekend.
In Embers Adrift, however, I need a fixed group, must seek my own challenges, and must plan for everything. This will not appeal to the large mass of players but a niche that has not been addressed in a long time – especially with the focus on PvE.
Overall, the MMORPG relies on many “old school” aspects, such as reading quest texts, the absence of markers on maps, or indeed, the subscription model that few new MMORPGs utilize.
If you and your entire guild are looking for a new game or are open to joining a new guild, you can experience adventures that are truly fun. This is the great appeal of Embers Adrift – the exploration, mastering challenges, and the experiences shared with others.

Embers Adrift is not the only MMORPG set to release this year. Here we have summarized everything for you:
The survival game Last Oasis is struggling to keep its players. Even the developers admit, “Our game is not fun.” This is supposed to drastically change with the launch of Season 5 next week.
This is Last Oasis: The survival game Last Oasis was announced in 2020 and is currently in Early Access on Steam. You dive into a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth has stopped rotating.
The focus is on survival, which is why Last Oasis offers classic survival mechanics such as hunger, thirst, crafting, and open PvP.
The concept attracted many interested players at the launch of Early Access, which led to an all-time peak of over 33,000 players on Steam. However, the numbers dropped very quickly and currently the statistics site Steamcharts.com shows about 200 concurrent players.
In a news post from July 5, Florian “chadz” Hofreither, one of the developers, discussed how their game “objectively is not fun.” But the team didn’t give up and announced a complete overhaul to change that.
Solo gameplay and small groups in focus
After determining that the survival game is not fun, the team set out to find the causes of this problem. The result will go live next week. The exact date and time will be announced on August 1.
This is the new update: The update will go live with the launch of Season 5 of Last Oasis and is called “LOverhaul,” a combination of the two initials of the game (LO) and the English word “Overhaul.”
The focus, according to the new blog post from chadz, will be on solo players and smaller groups. The game was balanced based on feedback from Season 5 testers, who all mainly played alone or in small teams.
The “Walkers,” complex transportation devices in Last Oasis, are expected to become even more important after the update.
With the LOverhaul update, the world of Last Oasis is set to become significantly more dangerous, not through open PvP, but through PvE. Originally, the world itself posed no “real” danger, but was “at most an inconvenience.” The danger came solely from other players through PvP. This will change with the update.
Players will need to be more cautious and think carefully about what risks they want to take. People who rush in unprepared and without strategy will have problems and die. They will not have fun, according to chadz.
This way, PvP should also become more strategic, as players need to consider and assess when a raid on others is worthwhile.

Should you play this version? In the blog post, chadz explains that the new direction of Last Oasis may not appeal to everyone. The team is aware of this and offers fans of the old version an alternative.
Players who prefer to play the survival game in its original state can do so on private servers, which will remain on the status of Season 4.
Are you active Last Oasis players or have you just checked it out briefly? Will you try the new update? Let us know in the comments.
