In the German MMORPG Tibia (PC), some users discovered a bug that allowed them to return to the starting area along with their equipment and cause a lot of trouble there. We at MeinMMO summarize.

What kind of bug is this? A game error in Tibia allowed users to return to the starting area Dawnport along with their equipment. This bug was fixed by the developers in a hotfix, as it could have massive implications for new fans of the MMORPG.

Actually, you start the game in the city of Dawnport and the subsequent island of Rookgaard. You stay there until level 8, talk to an NPC to choose your class, and then proceed to the main continent of the MMORPG. After Dawnport, you never return. Theoretically, at least.

Because when you die in Tibia, you lose experience points and can even “down-level,” meaning you can actually drop back in level. If you die often enough to be between level 5 and 6, you will actually respawn in Dawnport after your death, completely naked and without your equipment.

This last part is especially important, as otherwise, you would disrupt the entire dynamic of the starting island. You could easily defeat all enemies, monsters, and NPCs in one blow and even attack and kill players who have already reached level 8 but are still in Dawnport.

But the curious bug made this possible. You could return to Dawnport with all your equipment and really shake things up there.

Huge effort just to bring back items

Who found the error? The user DarkGladir shared the bug on August 10 on reddit to gain the attention of the developers. The post was quickly deleted to prevent the bug from being exploited further.

The bug has since been fixed and the instructions can be found again on reddit. And they couldn’t be more complicated. Even though the island of Dawnport has been in the game for several years, the bug was only noticed now.

How did the bug work? Although the bug no longer works, we want to share how curious the effort was to exploit it. The following steps had to be taken in this order:

• Attack any other player to get rid of the Blessing buff
• Die enough times to reach level 6, specifically you had to have between 1500 and 1518 experience points
• Purchase the Blessings Phoenix-Charm, Solitude-Charm, Spiritual-Charm, Twin Sun-Charm, Unity-Charm, and Twist of Fate
• Lower your character to one life point and log out in a corner with a maximum of one square meter of space
• Another player then had to activate PvP and throw two fields of fire on the square meter you logged out on. Also, another field of fire on an adjacent square meter
• After that, the level 6 player had to log back in with 1 HP, at which point he would immediately die from the fire. Your character would then respawn in Dawnport with all your stuff and could even access the further beginner area, Rookgaard, through an NPC

“This is insane, how does one discover something like this?”

How does the community react? They are thrilled that such a bug can even be found. There is especially a lot of recognition for the players who discovered the bug and reported it to the developers. Others, however, complain about why it was still possible to cheat items into Dawnport after such a long time (via reddit).

Some fans are also worried about how many items have already been smuggled to the beginner islands through this bug and whether they could be pulled back out of circulation. A few people even attack the finder of the bug, Gladir, and claim that he exploited the bug before reporting it.

He only writes that he reported the bug on the first day he found it. However, he continued to experiment to find out exactly how to reproduce the error. Once he knew that, he reported it to the developers as well. But we can’t say who is right in the end.

On August 11, the team shooter “Battle Steed: Gunma” launched on Steam. Players compete against each other in huge combat robots. However, the robot game is not doing very well with Steam users.

What kind of game is Battle Steed: Gunma? Battle Steed: Gunma is a third-person shooter where you fight in teams with huge robots.

The game was released in Early Access on August 25, 2021. On August 11, 2022, the game was released on Steam.

What is Battle Steed: Gunma about? The main story of the game revolves around a futuristic competition in which military companies from different countries participate. The companies want to obtain new resources discovered on Mars and Earth.

What does the gameplay in Battle Steed: Gunma look like? The player controls a combat robot equipped with various abilities and weapons. He collaborates with his alliance to take out enemies.

The game allows for different missions: from gathering resources to capturing bases in the combat zone.

What do the reviews say? Reviews are mostly negative. There are only 33% positive reviews on Steam for Battle Steed: Gunma (via steam).

Now that the game is no longer paid but free, I hope the number of players increases. There are still some bugs, such as the cursor keys that sometimes work and sometimes don’t when trying to select a game or navigate through the options. Gameplay-wise, it’s typical TPS [Third-Person Shooter] fair. The presentation is good. Weapons and tactics and the selection of robots are good. But the close combat is a little boring, maybe it could be made more interesting with a ‘Two-Hit-Strike’ or a ‘Lunging Dash’ on the targeted opponent. It definitely needs a few more promotional videos on social media to rekindle interest in the game after people were put off by the previous price and lack of content.

Negative comments primarily criticize the PvP and the graphics in the game:

• Mohohott: “The graphics are at a level where you could think it’s for a mobile game. On a computer that can handle detailed representations, I had about 10 frames on the lowest setting.”
• Parin: “No people […] no quick matches.”
• treeofeter: “When I looked at the leaderboard, it seemed strange that the first place had 5 wins in the game. But it took over 20 minutes to match for the first game […]”

However, it should be noted that many of the reviews refer to the Early Access version and there are only 39 reviews in total. Some of the criticisms may have been improved with the larger update at the game launch.

What changes have been made to the game since the release? With the release on August 11, 2022, the developers made changes to Battle Steed: Gunma and revamped some aspects from Early Access.

Among other things, the game was transitioned from paid to F2P. Bugs were fixed and the system improved. The graphics in the game were also revamped and several combat modes are available (via steam).

For 8 years, there has been a unique phenomenon on German-speaking YouTube: the YouTuber Rainer “Drachenlord” Winkler (33) and the hate directed at him. A group of people known as “haters” want to take down the YouTuber, seeing it as a game, a “dragon game”, to harass and pressure the man until he loses control. Now they cheer: The Drachenlord is “defeated,” as YouTube has deleted his channels, but Winkler sees it differently. Meanwhile, there are alternative platforms to YouTube like TikTok.

What is this strange phenomenon?

• Rainer “Drachenlord” Winkler talked about many different topics at the beginning of his career. He did so with a strong accent, often hurtful and thoughtless. A group of people started openly mocking him online and expressing outrage.
• For years, a battle has developed between the Drachenlord and his “haters.” People drove to his home and harassed him in person. It led to conflicts, lawsuits, and court rulings. The haters see Drachenlord as a bad person. Some wish him prison, others even death. They themselves are criticized for having lost all sense of measure.
• The case of “Drachenlord” is no longer a small YouTube phenomenon. Experts see it as a phenomenon of our internet age. Sascha Lobo addressed the case of “Drachenlord” as a cultural phenomenon in a 2021 column for Spiegel. YouTube deletes Drachenlord’s accounts apparently due to “Ban Evasion”

Why are his enemies cheering now? YouTube has deleted the Drachenlord’s channels. The reason appears to be a violation of the platform’s guidelines. Exact details are not officially known.

It is suspected that it could be a penalty for “circumventing a content ban,” a so-called “Ban Evasion”:

• Winkler received a warning for a copyright infringement, which usually results in a suspension (via watson).
• The Drachenlord was then active on another YouTube channel. This is against the rules.
• It is quite possible that YouTube considered the context of the violation and decided to get rid of the chronic conflict source, Drachenlord.

In any case, the haters online are celebrating and declaring Drachenlord “defeated.”

Without the YouTube channel, he lost his main source of income and thus no longer has resources. Some seem to want to take credit for the ban as a personal achievement: They joke that they “reported” the channel to the ban.

This plays into the idea that platforms like YouTube and Twitch automatically ban any channel if enough people submit a report. However, platforms deny that the reporting algorithm can be abused this way.

“I am by no means defeated!”

How does Winkler see it himself? He reacts surprisingly calmly. In two videos on TikTok, Drachenlord explains in front of a greenscreen that he is not “defeated” at all – he considers the ban on YouTube to be a small problem that can soon be resolved. He has always gotten his channel back so far. That’s how it has been for years.

First of all: Yes, my YouTube account has been deleted. No, I am not worried, because it is still in review […] I am waiting for a response from YouTube, this may take a while. I receive billions of messages on WhatsApp: Haha defeated! – Do I look like someone who is worried?

Even if the YouTube account is gone, I am by no means defeated because of that. First of all, I still have more than 200,000 followers here on TikTok and even if not, I just have to rework my OnlyFans a bit.

He made a “small mistake” which is now being reviewed and then he will continue on YouTube.

Winkler believes that he will return to YouTube and even if not, “then he will just go to TikTok.” He is also considering OnlyFans as an alternative to YouTube, a platform where other types of creators can actually earn a lot of money:

From his perspective, everything is clear. He is now playing Fable 2 on the Xbox and not stressing about it.

Then I’ll just make TikTok videos in the future and only that. Then I’ll make 5 TikTok videos a day instead of 3 videos – screw it.

How will this continue? Unfortunately, apparently just like all the time. Immediately, calls are circulating on Twitter to abuse TikTok’s reporting system so that Drachenlord also loses his channel there.

What’s behind this: What stands out is that Winkler is now playing exactly the role assigned to him by the “haters.” This can be seen in how the vocabulary aligns. Where haters cheer that he is “defeated,” like an NPC in a video game, he proclaims himself to be “not defeated at all.”

The use of “defeated” regarding Drachenlord originally even comes from a shout from Winkler himself. In the early days of the entire case, he shouted in one of his live streams: “You will never defeat me!” Together with a shirt that said “Undefeated forever,” this created the demand from the haters to actually defeat the Drachenlord.

Even in earlier incidents, it was noticeable that haters see the Drachenlord as a kind of fictional character, like in a TV show:

• Some referred to the last court hearing as a “season finale.”
• Now people are already excited about the “TikTok season.”

In fact, there is not even a known popular case from the USA where a content creator has been harassed and demonized for such a long time as Winkler has been in Germany. But even in the USA, conflicts surrounding content creators have escalated before:
