What is the special feature of the game that makes you absurdly strong? In Risk of Rain 2, you will find various items during your run. These items can be simple bonuses, such as faster attack speed or a higher chance to deal critical damage with attacks.
In addition, there are other items that can make your character strong. With a ghost in a bottle, your enemies explode or a Tesla coil creates an electrifying circle around you to deal additional damage. In total, there are 184 items in Risk of Rain 2, divided into seven categories, each with different strengths and some weaknesses.
Furthermore, you can collect items as often as you want, which upgrades them. Due to the levels of the monsters and the numerous items, later in the run, you will become so strong that you only need to lift a finger and most enemies around you will die.

In certain worlds, various puzzles can be solved. So you don’t just have to survive as long as possible and slay thousands of enemies, but also think a little and find a way to secret places.
At these secret places, new items, characters, or artifacts are unlocked that change the basic rules and provide even more content. There is also a final boss in Risk of Rain 2 that must be found through a puzzle and can eventually be defeated in an epic multi-phase battle.

How is Risk of Rain 2 rated? On Steam, the third-person shooter has over 330,000 ratings, of which 93% are positive.
The Steam user Shadow_Wolf writes after almost 190 hours that he has been playing Risk of Rain 2 for years and loves how more and more new content is released.
Also, Quadratic Entity has kind words about the game. He says it is his absolute favorite game of the genre. He further mentions the reasonable price for the amount of content and that the DLCs are also worthwhile.
Are there any negative voices regarding Risk of Rain 2? Yes, but these are very limited and most negative reviews were given when the DLC Survivors of the Storm was released. According to the reviews, the expansion introduced some bugs that also affected the old content.
The recent reviews (as of November 28, 2025) are, however, 95% positive. The user Amnesia criticizes on Steam the slow start of a run, as items must first be looted from crates in the somewhat spacious worlds. At the beginning, you are quite slow, which only improves with time.
