Honkai: Star Rail is the new game from Genshin developer HoYoverse. Similar to Genshin Impact, the new sci-fi RPG relies on gacha mechanics. A Reddit user extensively tested how F2P-friendly these mechanics are during the release week.
Last week, Honkai: Star Rail was released, and Reddit user Gotruto also dedicated his time to the newly released space RPG. Including sleep deprivation, he wanted to find out how much a F2P player can get from the gacha system.

What exactly did he do? Gotruto summarized in a Reddit post what he has achieved:
- Played through the entire story
- Completed every quest and puzzle he could find
- Finished all zone shops except for the last one
- He completed the universe simulation world 5
- Reached Trailblaze Level 36
With daily and weekly missions and login bonuses, he could pull from the banners 280 times for characters and items. If one wanted to pull this amount with money, it would correspond to several hundred euros. Therefore, a significant amount that a F2P player can save.
Gotruto finds the gacha system generous because of these results in Honkai: Star Rail and did not want to withhold his experience from other players.
With all the praise, one must not forget that Gotruto has grinded extremely hard. For all his successes, he played over 55 hours, meaning over 8 hours a day between release and his post.
Like MeinMMO editor Marie Friske, Gotruto has also taken the game to heart and describes how much he enjoyed the time with the characters, but also in the subreddit.
What do the comments say about his results? The Reddit community does not see the gacha systems quite so positively. While many users give tips on how to get rewards elsewhere, there is some criticism nonetheless.
Reddit user Rulutieh notes that one must not forget that many of the rewards are only available once. It is still too early to assess how generous the game […] will be. What matters are the things that reset every day, week, month.
Users like HeathenMonk thank him but also ask him to finally go to sleep.
