The rework for Symmetra does not please all players of Overwatch. Especially current Symmetra fans are rather skeptical.
When Blizzard announced a few days ago that the Overwatch heroine Symmetra is switching from the support category to defensive and is receiving a comprehensive rework, a satisfied sigh went through the community. At least that’s what one would think.
Teammates can’t handle Symmetra
However, part of the player base sees it quite differently – many “Symmetra mains”. They are actually quite satisfied with how Symmetra is currently played. In the opinion of these players, it is not Symmetra that is the problem, but the other players.
They see the heroine as a meaningless addition to the team, rather than just one of two wasted slots: a missing support or a missing DPS. In the eyes of many players, Symmetra can do neither. Therefore, there will also be more new heroes with clear role assignments.
Players of Symmetra, who spoke in an interview with Kotaku, see the problem with their teammates. Many people simply do not know how to deal with a Symmetra on the team, how to complement each other. In response, they resort to flames and insults or sarcastically spam “Thank you” or “I need healing” emotes.
Another problem is that Symmetra is not a character with a clear purpose. She does not blindly rush towards the opponent, shooting everything she has and can succeed with that. Good planning and foresight are necessary for her little turrets to have at least a minimal impact, and the deployed shield also needs to be placed correctly.
Symmetra, the embodiment of “I give up!”
Furthermore, there is the problem that Symmetra is now inextricably linked to a bad image. Almost every player has had a match with a particularly aggressive teammate who at some point declared, “I’ve had enough, we’re losing anyway” and then switched to Symmetra, further dragging the team down with poor performance.
Moreover, Symmetra is often mocked as she has never been seen in the Overwatch League – a small indication that the balance is not right or that she is simply not interesting enough for the pros.
Cortyn says: I also find it unfortunate that Symmetra is being reworked again. I liked her playstyle because it differed significantly from other characters and required a bit more planning and cunning. At the same time, even rookie shooters could achieve success with Symmetra, thanks to the automatic aiming of her laser turrets and main weapon.
Personally, I believe that Symmetra is underestimated and for that reason is not played. And because she is not played, she will continue to be underestimated. Because every now and then, we all see a Symmetra who earned the “Play of the Game” through hard work.
What do you think of Symmetra in her current state? Do you support the rework? Or do you think that Symmetra is fine as she currently exists?
