Reaper and Soldier: 76 from Overwatch are settling their differences now like real men – with a rap battle.
The greatest rivalry in the Overwatch universe does not lie between Omnics and humanity, but between Gabriel Reyes and John “Jack” Morrison – better known as Reaper and Soldier: 76. Both have a rather dark past full of conflict and both were declared dead for a while. But which of the two is actually much more “badass” than the other? This very question has also been asked by Youtuber JT Machinima and he lets the two compete against each other in a rap battle.
Those who play Overwatch in the original English version will quickly notice that the entire song consists largely of unlockable voicelines and dialogues on the maps – fittingly integrated into the lyrics. By the way, JT Machinima has previously made a song about the two “problematic brothers” Genji and Hanzo.
So, which of the two undead supermen do you think has won? Soldier: 76 or rather the Edgelord?
Cortyn says: As much as I actually dislike rap as a genre, I love raps in the gaming scene. Especially when Reaper accuses Soldier: 76 of being a “walking cliché”, I can’t help but grin. And the fact that both stand no chance against “Mom” Ana, who sends both boys to bed, rounds it off perfectly. Lines like “Your rhymes are so bad that this time I am the one who falls asleep” make the song simply grand. Boys just love to argue too much – but Mom Ana takes care of the little troublemakers.
