Blizzard’s shooter Overwatch is a huge thing on the social network Tumblr. Much revolves around the heroes and unique pairings.
Tumblr is a blogging platform and social network owned by Overwatch. Small stories, many images and drawings revolve around the heroes from Overwatch.
They have evaluated the numbers there now. In the 358 days, something has been done 150,000,000 times with the hashtag #Overwatch on Tumblr. That was the second most important hashtag there overall. No movie, no TV series, and certainly no game can compare to that. The next thing related to video games is Pokémon – lagging in 20th place.
But what’s it often about? Well, about the heroes.
D.Va, Junkrat, Reaper, and Mercy – super popular
The heroes that are most frequently talked about and reblogged there:
Reaper has the most likes and reblogs
Junkrat is the most searched
And Mercy has the most original posts
There are all kinds of statistics there: D.Va is about 8 times more sought after than poor Winston among the tanks. Not many are interested in Orisa. Junkrat is 10 times more exciting than Torbjörn and there have been few submissions regarding Ana over the year.
Who’s with whom? In ships, homosexual pairings dominate
A peculiarity of Overwatch is the so-called “ships” – these are fictional, romantic pairings that fans wish for. Unsurprisingly, homosexual pairings dominate here, but rather gay than lesbian.
With a significant distance, entries for the pairing “McHanzo“, the archer Hanzo and the cowboy McCree in intimate companionship, can be found – this bearded pairing apparently has many fans. Twice as many as the second-placed combo. More than a third of all “ship” postings revolve around McHanzo.
As Kotaku knows, there is a popular series with “fanfiction” about McHanzo titled “Hang the fool.” It extensively deals with the relationship between the two so different men in Overwatch.
In second place is the pairing “Reaper:76“, the old friends and now arch-enemies Reaper and Soldier:76 seem to share more than camaraderie. Then there’s “Pharmercy” in third place. The pairing “Widowtracer” established on porn sites is only in fourth place.
The first heterosexual pairing with “Gency“, that is Genji and Mercy, only comes in at seventh place. Dr. woman is said to be quite crazy about Genji’s backside, as people believe on Tumblr.
