The long complaining has paid off. In Overwatch there are now two popular skins of Genji and D.Va in the regular loot boxes.
In the turmoil surrounding the new map Moon Colony Horizon and the many balancing changes to the heroes, it might have gone unnoticed that Blizzard has come towards the players. This concerns two special skins that are available for D.Va and Genji in the game – but only if you have played another Blizzard game.
A month ago there was a cross-promotion between Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. Anyone who played some matches in Blizzard’s MOBA was also showered with exclusive rewards in Overwatch. This was particularly worthwhile with the “Oni” skin for Genji and the “Officer” skin for D.Va.
Oni-Genji and Officer-D.Va no longer exclusive
This exclusivity came to an end with patch 1.12 (PC) and 2.14 (PS4, Xbox One) for Overwatch. Since then, both skins can be found in the regular loot boxes of the game!
If you don’t want to wait for your luck, you can also simply buy the skins with credits, like all other non-seasonal skins.
The cross-promotion is regarded by fans with mixed feelings. Many feel cheated that everyone now gets the skin after they “struggled through HotS.” However, there are also many players who have now developed a serious interest in Heroes of the Storm. Thus, the whole action can probably be counted as a success for Blizzard.
What do you think of this change? Is it good that now everyone can get all skins without playing other games? Or do you think it’s bad because the exclusivity of the skins has been lost?
