The “Axe of Champions” is a damn coveted but equally rare award in Fortnite, given only to the best of the best. However, for a short time, many other players were able to enjoy this golden cosmetic.

Because the Axe of Champions is an exclusive cosmetic that only the best players of the Fortnite Champion Series receive. It goes to the winners of the respective top trios from various regions.
In total, there are seven regions, each with one trio emerging as the winner. They then receive the axe.
Furthermore, the axe acts as a sort of traveling trophy. It always goes to the current winner of the FNCS tournament, while the previous title holder must relinquish it. Therefore, only 21 players in Fortnite worldwide have access to the axe. Technically.

Here’s the mistake: The originally exclusive trophy axe suddenly ended up in the hands of numerous players – namely, all who qualified for the upcoming “Grand Royale” tournament. While this did not completely devalue the super-rare axe, it certainly demystified it a bit.
Apparently, that was not the intention. No wonder Epic quickly reacted and collected the extra axes again. This was announced on the official “Fortnite Competitive” channel via Twitter:
“Oops! We are withdrawing the Axe of Champions from all players who qualified for Grand Royale and returning it exclusively to this year’s FNCS season winners until Grand Royale is over.”
This process is now complete, and the Axe of Champions should be back with the players who have rightfully earned it.
