A survival game set in the MMORPG universe of RuneScape is set to launch “soon” in Early Access on Steam. MeinMMO summarizes all known information for you.
What kind of game is this? It has been known since October 2024 that the developers at Jagex are working on a spinoff of the popular MMORPG franchise RuneScape, and now the first wave of information about the game has arrived.
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds is to be a co-op survival game for 1 to 4 players and is expected to enter Early Access “soon” (sometime in Spring 2025) on Steam.
- The current plan is for the Early Access phase to last until early 2026. However, they want to take their time to achieve a “complete and satisfying gameplay experience” together with the community (via Steam).
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds will have an undefined purchase price at the start of Early Access. This price is expected to increase for the final release. After release, there may be paid DLCs.
- The survival game set in the RuneScape universe is expected to focus heavily on survival struggles and crafting. There will be simple RPG mechanics and fights against – among others – dragons.

What is RuneScape: Dragonwilds about? On the forgotten continent of Ashenfall in RuneScape, dragons have awakened. Stranded in this untamed land, you must gather resources, build shelter, and craft weapons to withstand the growing threat of the giant scaled lizards.
Only by mastering the survival struggle, leveling up, and uncovering the ancient secrets of the continent can you slay the dragon queen and reclaim Ashenfall – either alone or with up to 3 friends.

What does the game offer at EA launch? The Early Access version of RuneScape: Dragonwilds includes the first few regions, survival systems, skills (which may be familiar from the RuneScape MMORPGs), magical survival spells, craftable equipment, a building system, combat, dungeons, and the first dragon Velgar.
Additional content, features, skills, and map expansions are expected to follow throughout the Early Access phase. Similar to Old School RuneScape, the community will also have a decisive influence on the development of RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
