Soulmask is already one of the best survival games in Early Access on Steam, and now the 1.0 release is just around the corner. To celebrate this occasion, the developers are giving away a completely new game world.
What kind of game is this? Soulmask is an open-world survival game where you become the chief of your tribe as the last survivor in a primitive land. The game started Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 31, 2024. It established itself as one of the best survival games available right now, as reflected in the 80% positive Steam reviews.
The game’s biggest unique feature is the titular masks: There are many different masks in the world of Soulmask, and they all provide you with special bonuses and abilities.
Over time, you build and expand your settlement in Soulmask, recruit new tribe members, and face tough bosses and dungeons. There are now various areas where you can fight for survival – from a South American jungle to snowy peaks.
On April 10, 2026, Soulmask will leave Early Access after about 2 years. Just in time for the release, the game will take you to the deserts of Egypt in its largest DLC yet, Shifting Sands. In this setting, ancient ruins meet futuristic sci-fi technology.

What does this DLC cost? If you already own the game or purchase it before May 10, 2026, then the DLC will cost you nothing extra. Within the first month after release, Shifting Sands will be included for free in the main game, but anyone who jumps in later will pay €19.99 for the DLC.
The developers want to thank the 800,000 players in Early Access with this gift, as they announce in a post on Steam. It states: “Since we started developing Shifting Sands, we have been pondering one question: How do we thank the 800,000 chiefs who have supported us since Early Access?”
The developers’ answer to this question? A completely new game world. In the deserts of Egypt, a new environment along with enemies, masks, and more await you. The new masks are inspired by the gods of ancient Egypt and provide you with powers from their respective domains.
For example, the mask of the god of the dead Anubis allows you to resurrect enemy corpses to fight for you. With the mask of Amun-Ra, you unleash the power of the sun to burn your enemies.
Also new are flying ships that you can make into your new mobile base. While you start with just a small wooden boat, later in the game, you will have access to larger ships.
