Netflix has released a 2-minute trailer for the new series Dragon Age: Absolution. In the series, you will hear many well-known actors and voices that you already know from other video games, movies, and series. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is over the moon.
What game is it about? The Dragon Age series is a popular RPG series by BioWare (Anthem) and is considered their flagship in terms of game franchises alongside Mass Effect. The first installment, Origins, was released in November 2009.
Currently, Dragon Age 4 is in development, which according to rumors is set to include live service features.
In the meantime, however, Netflix is planning a series based on the game that will even premiere on December 9, 2022.

What kind of series is this? Dragon Age: Absolution follows the story of the young elf Miriam, who grew up as a slave in the mage state of Tevinter. Together with a group of mismatched adventurers, she is tasked with stealing a valuable artifact.
The plot at least according to initial information resembles that of the upcoming D&D film, which does exactly what role-playing fans love. The group decides to change the world and make Tevinter a “better place.”
Dragon Age: Absolution features many big names that many gamers will at least be familiar with, including:
- Kimberly Brooks (Ashly Madaline Williams from Mass Effect and Daizy Fizroy from BioShock Infinite)
- Matt Mercer (Cole Cassidy, formerly McCree, from Overwatch and Falco from Cyberpunk 2077)
- Ashly Burch (Tiny Tina from Borderlands and Chloe from Life is Strange)
- Sumalee Montano (Aunt Cardea from Anthem and Justina Gu from Naraka: Bladepoint)
- Phil LaMarr (Hermes from Futurama)
- Keston John (Va’ru from Avatar)
- Josh Keaton (Anduin Wrynn from World of Warcraft)
- Zehra Fazal (Pusa from Modern Warfare (2019) and Nia from Fallout 76)
Dragon Age and Mass Effect are both single-player role-playing games with thousands of fans. Yet publisher EA thinks such players are lame:
A bigger dream than Arcane
I love Dragon Age. Origins is still among my top 3 of the best games of all time, and I have also happily devoted many dozens of hours to Inquisition. The fantasy world is well-crafted, a perfect mix of dark, “gritty” world and bright fantasy.
Accordingly, I was already looking forward to Absolution when the first teaser was released in June. I am now even more excited after seeing the first real trailer.
With Dragon Age, BioWare has managed to create a world where magic and dragons are something almost everyday yet still special. Particularly, Tevinter has always been that fantastic place that I would love to explore in more detail. A land full of mages with quite archaic structures sounds… wild.
Netflix has achieved tremendous success with the animated series Arcane. The series about the story of League of Legends is one of the best series of all time and is set to receive a second season.
Unlike Arcane, Dragon Age: Absolution will only have 6 episodes.
In the comments on YouTube, some users have already criticized that the style of Absolution resembles those that already exist on Netflix a bit too closely. Arcane particularly excelled with its strong animations. Nevertheless, I am already very much looking forward to the new series.
Although I have probably played more hours of LoL than Dragon Age, I would argue that no other game has shaped me as much as Dragon Age: Origins – except perhaps Gothic. Therefore, Absolution is even more important to me than Arcane. It’s like I’m about to see a piece of my childhood and youth that I haven’t known yet.
However, whether Dragon Age: Absolution will start as strongly as Arcane seems unlikely to me, given the accomplishments of the LoL series:
Netflix hit Arcane deserves an Emmy – LoL series even beats The Simpsons
