The Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced many heroes. You can usually watch the movies only on Disney+, but one of the best Marvel films is currently available on Netflix, so you should hurry.
Which movie is it about? Before the MCU, Spider-Man made several appearances on the big screen. Between 2002 and 2007, Sam Raimi’s trilogy featured Tobey Maguire. In 2012 and 2014, two movies were released with Andrew Garfield in the role of the web-slinger.
But that was outside the MCU. After Tom Holland made a guest appearance as the new Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), the first solo film in the MCU followed in 2017: Spider-Man: Homecoming.
It was not only a great success for Marvel; according to Box Office Mojo, it grossed 880 million US dollars (about 760 million euros) on a budget of 175 million US dollars (about 151 million euros).
But Spider-Man: Homecoming achieved more than just that. The film finally showcased an underrated aspect of Peter Parker and turned a lame villain into one of the best in the MCU.
From Batman to Vulture
What makes Spider-Man: Homecoming so good? For one, the film portrays Peter Parker’s high school years best. While the other films showed this too, Tom Holland embodies the young Peter in a more believable way than Garfield and Maguire. A significant advantage is his chemistry with Ned, played by Jacob Batalon.
The biggest highlight of the film is the villain, played by Michael Keaton, who previously donned the Batman role. He plays Vulture. Compared to Doctor Octopus, Venom, or the Green Goblin, he may seem like a lame Spider-Man villain, but Michael Keaton transforms him into a menacing yet somewhat relatable character.
The beauty of Homecoming is also the connection to the MCU. Peter receives help from Iron Man. This shows a different dynamic that will be completely turned around in the upcoming film.
How successful is the MCU Spider-Man? The Spider-Man films are among the most successful in the MCU. The third part, Spider-Man: No Way Home, is one of the three highest-grossing MCU films of all time, only surpassed by Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
No Way Home grossed over 1.9 billion US dollars (about 1.6 billion euros) worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
So if you don’t have Disney+ but still want to watch a good Marvel film, you can’t go wrong with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
How long will Spider-Man: Homecoming still be available on Netflix? If you want to watch the film, you should hurry. Spider-Man: Homecoming is only available on Netflix until March 28.
