A new Minecraft server is starting soon. Here you can immerse yourself in a medieval experience and enjoy many contents.
What is this project? Ottonien is a Minecraft server that has existed in its first version since 2015. It is a German roleplay server set in the historical medieval period without elements of fantasy such as elves, dwarves, and magic.
On November 14, 2025, the new version of the project will launch. And it comes with a lot of content to take you back to the Middle Ages.
Quests, building, combat
Where does the server take place? On the server, you find yourself in the year 1304 on the island of Ottonien. This is a small, fictional island located on the northern edge of the Holy Roman Empire.
What content is available on the server? Ottonien comes with its own character creator, allowing you to create your character in the game. Once you have done that, NPCs, quests, and abilities await you in the usual roleplay fashion, ready to be leveled up.
The abilities include both combat skills like sword or polearm combat, professional skills like weapon smithing or archery, as well as skills like fishing or hunting to sustain your character. Currently, there are a total of 20 skills available, which can be found in the project’s wiki.
The developers also place great importance on a historical medieval experience. Accordingly, the style of the buildings in the game is designed to be period-appropriate and accurately built. This includes realistic measurements that fit the time. Additionally, mob farms are prohibited in every respect.
To enhance immersion, Ottonien relies on lived roleplay. Therefore, you should always make an effort to stay in character and behave according to the setting and time within the server.
You can also form a retinue and thus unite several vassals into a faction. A economic system is also part of Ottonien, where taxes and dues must be paid.
An interactive map of Ottonien is also part of the project. Here, you can always see which areas exist in the game and which retinue currently rules over them.
How can I join the server? To join the server, you need Minecraft version 1.20.4. You also need to download the resource pack provided by the developers as well as a compatible version of Optifine. Afterwards, you can join the server.
