Gameplay footage of No Man’s Sky has been released, showcasing the landscapes of five different planets. Additionally, the developers discuss the art behind the space simulation.
To say that No Man’s Sky is massive is likely an understatement. The space simulation by Hello Games is estimated to host approximately 18 trillion planets. The developers assume that only about 0.1% of the galaxy will ever be discovered by players.
So far, much has been said about the incredible scale of the game world in No Man’s Sky, and now we get to see in “IGN First” videos what art lies behind this ambitious project. Additionally, we can experience the journey across five very different planets, which gives us a glimpse of how unique each planet will be.
The Art of No Man’s Sky
In a video from IGN, the developers of No Man’s Sky discuss the artistic vision behind the game. One idea is that each planet should feature various creatures and unique vegetation, to drive the players’ curiosity: “What awaits me on the next planet? What will I see now?”
Players should feel immersed in a science fiction world, visualizing the images they once imagined in their fantasies while reading science fiction novels. Except, in No Man’s Sky, they can move freely within it, explore every corner, and continue their journey anytime.
The video shows you designs of various creatures and sketches of objects, as well as scenes of how it will look in the final product. The artistic efforts that have gone into this game are definitely impressive. A user comments:
Even if the game becomes a flop, it will still be a great screenshot/wallpaper generator.
Journey to Five Planets in No Man’s Sky
In another video, five different planets are presented, each with unique flora and fauna. See for yourself:
- The first planet is called Louil: This planet features sparse vegetation, few living beings, but is rich in minerals.
- Yavil: This planet is full of life. There is water, dense vegetation, and it is teeming with living beings. However, many aliens are attracted to this place, so you shouldn’t expect to be alone here.
- Yzheleuz: This planet is very close to a sun, at 751.5°Celsius you will need strong sunscreen. Accordingly, the planet’s surface is also very hostile to life.
- Phlek: This planet is also not exactly inviting for a Sunday stroll. Toxic rain leads to a climate that produces questionable fungi – and shapeless beings.
- Balari V: This planet is far from the center of a solar system, here you must prepare for -163.4° Celsius.
