On September 9th, the MMO New World launched its open beta, where you can test the features of the game. One of the most important is the combat system. Which weapons did you like the most?
This is how the weapon system of New World works: The combat system of New World is quite different from classic MMORPGs like WoW or FFXIV. It is action-oriented, and you must position yourself correctly in combat, aim your attacks, and dodge opponents if you want to be victorious.
To stand against your enemies, you get to choose from a selection of 11 weapons, of which you can carry 2 at the same time. These weapons determine your playstyle and which abilities you can use in combat. Accordingly, they have a significant impact on how New World feels for you in combat.
Some weapon combinations are more suited for a defensive playstyle, while others can deal a lot of damage and play as a DD.
These are the weapons you can choose from: During the open beta, you can test the various weapons at will and decide which ones you like the most. The following weapon types are available:
- Sword and Shield – Melee, more defensive
- Rapier – Melee, high damage
- War Axe – Melee, high damage
- War Hammer – Melee, high CC
- Axe – Melee and ranged, high damage
- Spear – Melee and ranged, damage and CC
- Bow – Ranged, high damage
- Musketeer – Ranged, high damage
- Fire Staff – Ranged with magic, high damage
- Life Staff – Ranged with magic, damage and healing
- Icy Staves – Ranged with magic, CC and support
So you can, for example, go into battle with a bow and a rapier, ambushing opponents from a distance and then going into melee. Or you can use the life staff to support yourself and your allies.
This is how you can vote: In the survey tool below, you can indicate which weapons have been the most fun for you during the beta so far and which ones you will play after the release.
Since you can carry two weapons in New World, you can also select two of them in the survey. However, the choice cannot be undone.
