In Red Dead Online, horses have been unleashed since the last update. You will encounter stray horses all over the map, either just standing around, wandering, or dead.
This is what happened: The Blood Money update in Red Dead Online brought a surge of new content for players, including new missions and long-awaited train heists. And apparently, new bugs have also crept on board.
Since the update, players have encountered various horses appearing out of nowhere all over the map. Some of them are just standing around, others lie dead on the ground, while others run over unsuspecting cowboys and girls or throw them into the air.
These are obviously not wild horses. They clearly look like they were created by players and belong to someone since they often carry full gear and cosmetic items. However, these mysterious horses cannot be mounted or taken over by other players.
The strange bug has led to confusion among players who have recorded the bizarre appearances in videos and uploaded them online.
A glitch that duplicates horses?
This is what it’s about: Apparently, the Blood Money update caused a glitch that duplicates players’ horses and randomly places them somewhere in the plains. These likely are not actual player horses, as there have been no reports of mass horse losses. So you don’t have to worry about logging in after the Blood Money update and finding your loyal steed suddenly gone.
However, one player on reddit noticed that these stray horses only appear under certain conditions.
Yes, I noticed it. When my friends started a “Blood Money” mission, a copy of their horse was left behind and just wandered around on the map until they finished the mission. Then it disappeared again.

Whether this is actually the cause of the horse glitch can’t be said for sure. But you can try to pay attention to it the next time you are in the game and play the new missions from the Blood Money update with your friends.
