The survival MMO “The Day Before” is one of the most anticipated games set to release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in the near future. However, after two delays in the release, doubts are growing. Even in the MeinMMO community.
Why is the game so highly anticipated?
- “The Day Before” fulfills a wish that many gamers who once played The Division have: create a game with that atmosphere and add zombies: then you have exactly what we love about “The Walking Dead”. Exactly this wish for a mix of “surviving in a post-apocalypse” and “taking down zombies” is what The Day Before should fulfill.
- The genre of “survival MMOs” is chronically underrepresented, especially in the high-gloss area: while the genre is popular, there is no clearly dominant game. Games like DayZ, Rust, Conan Exiles, or ARK have all aged or have always been niche games for enthusiasts. People are craving fresh wind. This was evident in February 2021, when an indie game in the genre suddenly became huge on Steam.
- Additionally, The Day Before looked fantastic in the first trailers.
What’s the catch? The release of “The Day Before” was originally scheduled for June 2022 but has now been postponed to November 10, 2023.
From Steam, the title has completely disappeared, supposedly due to copyright issues – but some see this as an excuse from the developers. They claim they wanted to postpone the game anyway.
Also, the screenshots of the game seem to be very reminiscent of The Division.
And one wonders why a team and a publisher who have never previously developed anything approaching this caliber are now tasked with creating such a stylish new game.
However, the developers insist: Everything has its logic. They have been living for this game for 4 years. The fact that no one believes in them only motivates them more. They feel like underdogs in a 90s action movie.
Only “18% of MeinMMO readers” believe that the team is really working on Day Before
How is this perceived by our readers? We wanted to know from MeinMMO readers whether they believe that the developers are truly working on “The Day Before” or if it is a scam.
5,918 readers responded:
- Only 18% are sure that the team is indeed working on the game
- 30% are convinced: It’s a scam
- However, the majority, 33% says: “I’m not sure”
- 19% indicate that they don’t care
Almost two-thirds of our readers (63%) are at least skeptical of “The Day Before”, with some already dismissing it.
Only about one in five MeinMMO readers who participated in the poll is convinced that the game is really being developed.
Many readers no longer trust trailers – Prefer to wait and see
What do readers say in the comments? What speaks most for the game, and what the developers have also argued: The team is currently not making any money with “The Day Before”, they are neither collecting donations nor is there a pre-sale. A scam would thus yield nothing.
Readers caution: The publisher could still benefit from the enormous pull of the game by drawing attention to its other games.
However, many other users state that they expect nothing great from the game, having been deceived too many times by great trailers promising fast action and a “super zombie” game that did not deliver at launch.
For some readers, the hype seems to have already worn off. MeinMMO reader Captnhero says:
“What excited me was the first gameplay teaser – it looked like Division with zombies. Unfortunately, the last gameplay trailer was the exact opposite.”
Some readers doubt that the game will truly release in November 2023. They fear that the developers might provide a new excuse and delay it again.
What’s behind it: In conclusion, it can be said that many MeinMMO readers are skeptical about the game but have not yet formed a final judgment.
At the moment, however, they see no need to commit and are waiting to see what happens.
If against all odds “The Day Before” generates a good vibe at release, many current reservations could be quickly forgotten.
