The survival game Myth of Empires was released on Steam a week ago and today recorded an all-time peak of over 36,000 players. We summarize what the Steam reviews say about the game.
What is Myth of Empires? It is an open-world game for PC, aimed primarily at fans of sandbox survival games like ARK or Conan Exiles. The combat system, however, is more reminiscent of hardcore games like Mordhau and Mount & Blade with its strategic approach.
Once you create your character, you land in an Asian country based on ancient China. According to the developers, the setting is supposed to be “realistic and historical” with only a few fantasy elements.
The following features await you in the game:
- Both PvE and PvP modes
- Large sieges
- Free construction of areas with settlements and fortresses
- NPC companions to assist you in combat
- Detailed crafting system
You start with your character in any area and immediately get to work on the first tasks. The tasks introduce you to the game and present the various systems so you can gradually get into the gameplay.
A week ago, Myth of Empires launched in early access on Steam and has already attracted several tens of thousands of players.

This is the player status: Since its early access launch, Myth of Empires on Steam has collected over 4,200 reviews. Of those, 75% are marked with a thumbs up, giving it a “mostly positive” rating.
According to the statistics site steamcharts.com, Myth of Empires was also played by over 36,600 players in the last 24 hours. This is also the highest point that the new survival game has achieved so far. The current trend is therefore rising.
What the reviews say: Most positive reviews emphasize that Myth of Empires is a solid survival game. Many compare the gameplay to titles like Conan Exiles, Rust, or ARK, which are popular games in the survival genre.
It is also emphasized that the different systems of Myth of Empires offer a lot of depth and that one can get lost in the gameplay.
I can only recommend the game. It is a mix of Conan Exiles, Bannerlord, NW Commander Battle, and Asia. I have never been so addicted to a game in such a short time. […]

So far a very good game, even though it is in early access. Developers are continuously working on the game and there are many updates – mostly at midnight! Those who like games like Conan Exiles, Rust, or Ark will certainly have a lot of fun here.

In negative reviews, however, players criticized the bugs and the lack of polish. Examples included the many confusing and cluttered menus and skill trees that supposedly overwhelm the gameplay. The grind has also been noted as negative, as it is said to feel very sluggish and unrewarding.
The user Aramis wrote in his review:
I tried to like the game. The graphics are nice, even though it is mostly dreary. […] At the moment, the game is an unprecedented grind hell. The menus and texts are jumbled and confusing. And on top of that, it’s a Chinese game with terrible translation. […] Many quests are either incomplete or the description is so poor that you cannot solve them. […]
I think after three or four years of work the game could be playable and fun. At the moment not so much. I would wait.
Nevertheless, the positive voices currently outweigh and the player numbers seem to continue to grow.
