The Day Before is a new MMO announced, where you must survive in a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic world. It somewhat resembles The Division.
What is The Day Before? After a pandemic has wiped out a large part of humanity, only two factions remain: The infected, who have turned into flesh-hungry zombies and the last apparently immune survivors.
You are among the survivors and wake up without memories. Now it’s time to uncover what has happened and to stay alive in this end-time world. This might make the online game particularly interesting for fans of survival games.
To survive, you team up in the Steam MMO The Day Before (via store.steampowered.com) with other players, explore the world, gather resources, try to acquire better equipment, and fight against the zombies. PvP is also supposed to play a role. However, the developers have not yet revealed how the system works.
The Division with zombies?
What does the game remind you of? If you look at the screenshots and the impressive first trailer for The Day Before, you think of The Division. The empty, wintry city with abandoned cars in the trailer reminds of New York from Ubisoft’s online game. Both are games that you experience in third-person perspective. Moreover, cover plays an important role, just like in The Division.
However, in The Day Before, you are in an MMO world. This means you encounter many other players with whom you can interact. This MMO aspect is supposed to be the focus of the gaming experience.

How exactly do you play with others? Besides exploring the world together and fighting against the infected, it is possible to create colonies. These serve as safe havens in the world. You can retreat to these colonies, meet other players there, and also trade. This is reminiscent of the safe zones from The Division.
What is special about the game? Horror elements play a significant role. In your search for resources and weapons, you explore abandoned buildings. In these, it is necessary to use the flashlight for light.
Zombies could lurk everywhere and attack you. You see how the infected feed on corpses and must proceed with caution. Sneaking is therefore a viable option that you might prefer in certain situations over fighting.
This creates a creepy atmosphere that is reminiscent of horror games like Resident Evil.
When is The Day Before coming out? The release on Steam is planned for the second quarter of 2021. A version for PS4, PS5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S has not been mentioned yet.
