Not even 2 months after the release of a new survival MMO on Steam it is already set to end. In The Cube, Save Us the lights are going out.
Which game is it about? The Cube, Save Us is a survival co-op game that also calls itself an MMO. While the MMO aspects are rather slim, it is mainly about survival. After a nuclear war, the remaining humans try to gather resources and escape from the “Cube”.
The “Cube” is said to be a massive alien structure left behind by an extraterrestrial civilization. In terms of gameplay, there are beautiful and large maps where combat mainly occurs in close quarters, which sets the title apart from many other survival games.
Mutants and other players pose significant dangers, as do environmental effects that can also be deadly. What sounds like a refreshing game concept on paper is now close to being canceled.

From Early Access to Shutdown in 2 Months
When are the lights going out? The Cube, Save Us servers will shut down on May 8, 2026. The developers announced the end of the title after not even two months. The survival game was launched on March 18, 2026, in Early Access.
However, despite Early Access and a Free2Play model, only about 600 players logged in on peak for Steam just two weeks after the release (Source: SteamDB). Accordingly, the developers quickly realized that there was nothing left to save and announced the end.
All players who have already spent money on the title have received a refund of the purchase price via Steam.
Why did the title flop? As the website 17173.com reports, the title had many problems. The game was technically extremely prone to bugs, crashes, and poor performance.
Although the title had not even been released for a month, items had to be removed from the shop because players had exploited mechanics with them. Even though the issues were then improved, it was not enough to regain the trust of the players.
While Early Access on Steam is supposed to allow developers to publish their game in development, if players cannot enjoy it due to poor technology, then it is simply too early for the step, as clearly shown here.
With The Cube, Save Us, not the first promising title is going offline in 2026. Hopes were also high for Highguard, but the developers could not convince the players: “We deserved a failure without schadenfreude” – Highguard is the fatal miscalculation of a market that thrives on anger
