New Survival Game on Steam Makes You a Pirate Fighting Zombies

Today, the survival game If Sun Sets starts its Early Access on Steam. It features a day-night cycle that makes a visual difference.

What kind of game is it? If Sun Sets is a survival role-playing game where you find yourself as a shipwrecked person on an island. During the day, you explore this alone or in co-op, gather resources, and build a base. This might help you survive the undead hordes that attack at night.

If Sun Sets was released in Early Access on Steam on November 5, 2024, while its release in the Epic Games Store is still pending (as of November 5, 12:17 PM). A free demo is also available on Steam. In the trailer, the developers show what you can expect.

What does the trailer show? In the character editor, you can customize the gender and appearance of your character. Additionally, you distribute your first 3 stat points in the categories of health, stamina, attack, and defense.

If you want to cosplay as the worst pirate you’ve ever heard of (of course, I’m talking about Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean), you can do that. You’ll find the hairstyle and beard in the character editor, while a fitting outfit will be available later in the game.

Nightly Survival Horror in the Caribbean

Once you’ve finished creating your character, you’ll head to the island of Luminora. There, you initially stroll along Caribbean beaches, and inland, you’ll encounter a dense jungle with scattered ruins. Visually, the island has a lot to offer.

However, you’re not on Luminora to vacation: Instead, you gather food and resources to build a base. This will be useful when the undead rise at night and hunt you. If Sun Sets combines pirates and fantasy elements with the gameplay loop of 7 Days To Die.

An important note for those who want to play If Sun Sets in co-op: According to the information in the Steam store, you need an Epic account for multiplayer.
