The survival game Back 4 Blood starts today, August 5, 2021, in early access beta. In the spiritual successor to the popular Left 4 Dead series, you can expect plenty of zombies to take out. MeinMMO reveals how you can join in.
What kind of game is it? The cooperative survival shooter comes from the same developers who made Left 4 Dead. Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to the series and offers similar gameplay.
A deadly parasite has turned most of humanity into zombies, and you, the “cleaners,” must now clean up. Your main goal is to prevent the complete extinction of humanity.
Alone or with a team of up to 4 players, you face zombies and try to complete various levels. You will be challenged not only by “normal” zombies but also by special mutations and bosses. Features include:
- Campaign mode or co-op with up to 4 players
- Competitive PvP
- 8 playable characters with unique abilities and perks
- At least 4 special enemy types in addition to “normal” zombies
Games are played in rounds with an additional “roguelite” system of cards. These cards are special perks granted to you and can be used in pre-made decks or crafted into your own decks.
The game will be released on October 12, 2021, for PC (Steam and Epic), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S and will be available on day 1 in Xbox Game Pass. There will be a beta beforehand.
When is the beta? Today, August 5, the early access beta starts for all pre-orders and players with a key. It will begin at 9:00 PM German time. The early access beta runs until Monday, August 9, also at 9:00 PM.
The beta will be playable on all platforms.

How do I participate? You have several options to join the beta:
- register on the website for a chance to gain access (via back4blood.com)
- link your Twitch account with your Warner Bros. account and watch streamers on Twitch who are playing Back 4 Blood for a chance to receive a “drop”
- pre-order Back 4 Blood for your respective platform, the standard edition starts at €59.99 – Here you can find the shop (via back4blood.com)
- Alpha players automatically receive access
- you need a WB Games account to gain access – You can do this through the Warner Bros. Games website (via warnerbrosgames.com)
If you do not receive access and do not want to pre-order Back 4 Blood, there will be an open beta from August 12 to 16 (at 9:00 PM each day). For participation on these dates, you do not need a special key, you can just play.
Fans of Left 4 Dead or the somewhat newer World War Z will likely have a lot of fun with Back 4 Blood, and initial feedback has already been positive for the new survival game.
