Disintegration (PC, PS4, Xbox One) was meant to be a new shooter brand and aimed to attract Destiny fans in particular. However, just 5 months after launch, the servers are set to close.
What is Disintegration? The shooter from Halo co-developer Marcus Lehto places you in a bleak future. Humanity lives solely in robot bodies to avoid depleting Earth’s dwindling resources too quickly. However, a militant group now wants to subjugate these robots. You set out to fight for your freedom. In doing so, you command several soldiers similar to a strategy game from a floating bike.
Disintegration tells this story in a single-player campaign. In addition, there is also a multiplayer mode for up to 10 players, where you command a crew in tactical battles. Overall, the title was aimed at fans of Destiny and Halo.
The success just didn’t happen
How was the game received? The reviews from the gaming press were rather mixed. On average, the ratings according to Metacritic sit at 60/100. The single-player campaign is particularly praised. However, the mix of shooter and strategy doesn’t always go down well.

A similar picture is shown in user ratings. These sit at 4.7 out of 10, even lower than the opinion of the trade press.
What happens now? The developers had to announce that they would shut down the servers for the multiplayer part on November 17. The players’ interest is simply so low that it is no longer worth maintaining operations.
We have made the difficult decision to remove the multiplayer modes of Disintegration cross-platform from the game. This will happen in phases over the coming months, starting today with the removal of the in-game store. On November 17, this phase will end with the complete removal of the multiplayer modes.
Statement from V1 Interactive
Both the development team of V1 Interactive and our publisher Private Division stand by the creative risks we undertook to bring forward such a unique, genre-blending game, developed by this small but talented and passionate team. While our player base expressed interest in the single-player campaign, the game unfortunately struggled to build a larger community necessary for an engaging multiplayer experience.
Thus, the servers will be shut down just 5 months after the launch of Disintegration on June 15.
Did you play Disintegration? Are you saddened by the shutdown of the multiplayer part?
You can of course try other multiplayer games. Which ones are particularly worthwhile, we will reveal to you in the MeinMMO list The 12 best multiplayer online shooters 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
